Just searched the last few months and messages and haven't seen anyone ask this. Sorry if I missed it earlier.

Like the rest of you, 2020 hasn't turned out like I planned. We were going to fly to Orlando to spend Spring Break relaxing by the pool at Bonnet Creek. Thankfully we got our flyer miles and our points refunded. I've also got a Wyndham reservation for my Daughter and future Son In Law for their honeymoon in early August. We're hoping it is safe enough to fly and the the Hawaii quarantine is lifted - but know this is a risk.

Bottom line - I've got approx 300K of cancelled points that I may have to deal with. They don't show up as cancelled points in the web site. I'm a gold member and have until September to deposit them into a future year. I suppose I could also deposit the points into RCI. Are there limitations to the use of 2020 cancelled points?

Anyone else have a plan for their 2020 cancelled points?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Better to deposit your Wyndham points into a future use year as opposed to letting them roll to RCI because you then have to pay RCI fees to use your points. ($239 / reservation)......UNLESS....

Wyndham is not everywhere....if you have a future vacation destination in mind where Wyndham does NOT have a resort, this can be one way to use your points to that end.

There are no limitations. If I were you, I would deposit into 2022 if you can. I noticed you can deposit 2 years out. The logic behind my suggestion is that everyone is going to probably be instinctively depositing into 2021 and there will be WAY too many people trying to use their points for that year. You won't get any value in your VIP ownership because everything will be booked solid at the 60 day window. By 2022, bookings should be close to normal because most people would have deposited into 2021 and dumped everything remaining into RCI at that point.

I personally did throw all my points into 2021 at the end of march, but that's because I'm resale and have 200,000 more even use year points than odd use year points and I'm also trying to use up all my points this summer. I booked whatever I could in the express window using 2021 points. This is what my account looks like:

I drained as much as I could until 2022 because I don't want to be scrambling next year to find a reservation. If there is something available in the 90 day window in 2021, I will just use my 2022 points and express book it. Also, if you deposit into 2022, you can still take advantage of the 60 day window with your VIP privileges in 2021 by express booking and using the points you deposited into 2022.

Oh I love that strategy, I didn't even think about 2022 and the potential rush for vacationing in 2021. That makes great sense. Plus, I already have European RCI vacations planned for the fall of 2021 on the French Riviera.
Thanks for the great suggestion.

Just to clarify, there is no longer any such thing as cancelled points - that type of "bucket" was eliminated about 4 years ago, if I remember correctly. The points from your cancelled reservations went back to whatever use year they originally came from and can be used as regular use year points. You can deposit them to a future year in Wyndham, and that's what I would recommend. For this year only, Wyndham has lifted the deadline for moving those points, so you'll actually have until the end of your use year to make that future deposit. But going forward, it is correct that gold has the first nine months to use the points deposit feature.

If you deposit into 2021 and use at least that number of points in 2021, then you'll be able to deposit any unused 2021 points into 2022.

I see no advantage in depositing 2020 points into 2022 unless you know you will not be able to use that number of points in 2021.

I just think it will be really hard to book in the upgrade/discount window for 2021. OP said they were VIP.

Me, too. With all the October-December reservations I booked with April-June canceled points, it's totally possible that I would roll 1 million points into the future. It is inconceivable that I wouldn't book 1 million more points in 2021. I have more than 4 million 2021 points on reservations right now. I can go through another million very easily.

You could be right about it being difficult to book in the discount/upgrade window. It isn't easy now to book prime weeks in the discount/upgrade window. I deal a lot with "sub-prime."

I guess it just depends on if you are trying to book within the 60 day window for discounts/upgrades. I think there will be openings next year, I just think everywhere will be booked before the 60 day window, but not so much in 2022. I threw my points into 2021 because I'm not VIP, but if I were, I'd put into 2022 just because I can just pull them out within the 60 day window if something is available.

I book January at Royal Vista, the Daytona 500 and Bike Week at Ocean Walk, and Spring Break (weeks before and after Easter) at Bonnet Creek. They were booked thirteen months before check-in (except Bonnet Creek, fourteen months) and obviously at full price. I don't expect to rent all of them at the outrageous prices required by full price reservations. Upgrades are a near zero probability and it is unlikely that I'll stumble on a cancellation.

Any cancellation of those reservations will yield quite a few points (e.g., 424,000 for a 4BR Pres at Bonnet Creek) that I would normally use to book May and June reservations, most of them at a discount. In 2021, those May-June reservations will come from 2020 points I rolled forwarded until they have been exhausted. If I have 2021 points left over, they'll go to 2022. Barring another catastrophe, I'll be okay by the end of 2021.

A lot depends on if pandemic returns this fall. If another shut down of resorts happens in the fall next year will be very interesting.

Which wouldn't happen if people, you know, wore masks in public places like they're supposed to. I honestly feel more confortable bringing my daughter to Seaworld/Legoland than I do the grocery store.

Do you have the ability to book Margaritaville?

When depositing points I only have the option to deposit in 2021 use year. Doesn’t show or let me to deposit in 2022 use year on the website. Have all resale points not sure if this is why.

I'm resale and have even and odd deeds. Maybe that's why I can and you can't. I'm going to try to book Clearwater Thanksgiving week 2021 at the 10 month mark in the end of January and if I cant, I'm depositing all my 2021 point into 2023. I'll just Express book whenever I wanna go somewhere or just not travel that year.

Anyone know if they are allowing you to re-deposit points? I have 2019 points that were deposited into 2020 so we could book 2-3BR units at Smugglers Notch for the end of July. If we have to cancel (Smuggs has not yet re-opened) can those 2019 points be moved to 2021? I know normally they can only be deposited once, but just wasn't sure if they rule is being waived as well along with the other current COVID exceptions?

You can move up to the amount of points you own for that use year. I moved 108,000 points into 2021 and now it says I have 502,000 2021 points. It normally says I have 394,000 2021 points so when 2021 hits, I can move up to 394,000 points into 2022.

The reservation i have used 488,000 points. 245k from 2019 & 243k from 2020. So would i be able to deposit all 488k points? Or could I only deposit 245k which is the annual points available on the account.

245,000 is all you can carry forward. The rest will have to go into RCI on Dec 31st. That will keep the points active in RCI until Dec 31st 2022.
