jarta -- we live in the San Diego area and I believe I read it in one of our local papers. The incident happened about 9 months ago. Sometimes I get stories mixed up, so I hope this is a case of that. What I know for sure is that in schools along the border towns that bodies were found and their tongues were cut out. This horrible type of thing was more than a one time only -- apparently there is a Drug Lord battle going on. I will use Google and see if I can come up with the earlier thing I mentioned.
 
Cathyb, ... Cancun is over 800 miles from Tijuana. That's about the distance from San Diego to Denver.

I guess I will just have to leave it with this. I was at Lagunamar in January. It was wonderful. I felt quite safe in the area around the resort. No tourists were getting killed in the area around Lagunamar.

But, you will have to decide for yourself whether you go there. Good luck! :) ... eom
