Hyatt Vacation Club (HVC) - Platinum Points, Hyatt Mountain Lodge Beaver Creek, Hyatt Ka'anapali Beach Maui, Hyatt Pinon Pointe, Hyatt Carmel Highlands
Hello,

I am giving away my ownership of 540K Platinum Points.

Usage would start in 2025, so next MFs wouldn't be due until Jan 1, 2025.

I'm only asking for the new owner to cover the $295 Hyatt transfer fee and the $275 fee for LT Transfers to complete the transfer paperwork on our behalf.

MFs for 2023 were $3235. MFs for 2024 are still pending as they aren't due until Jan 1, 2024, but I plan to cover those.

Platinum Points can be used directly to make reservation at any of these resorts 15 months in advance of the booking dates.

Platinum Collection:

Santa Fe, The Residences at El Corazon de Santa Fe
Lake Tahoe, One Village Place Residences
San Diego Area, The Welk:
  • Resort Villas
  • Villas on the Green
  • Mountain Villas
Branson, The Lodges at Timber Ridge
Breckenridge, The Ranahan
Cabo San Lucas, Sirena del Mar
Palm Springs, Desert Oasis
Lake Tahoe, Northstar Lodge

Experiences Collection:

Princeville, The Cliffs at Princeville
Avon, Falcon Point
Kapa'a, Pono Kai Resort
Beaver Creek, Poste Montane Lodge
Blanchard, Stoneridge Resort
Cave Creek, Villas of Cave Creek
Lake Tahoe, Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge
Redmond, Eagle Crest
Lake Tahoe, Red Wolf Lodge at Olympic Valley
Carlsbad, Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara
Scottsdale, Four Seasons Residence Club at Troon North
Sedona, Arroyo Roble Resort

Platinum points also trade well via Interval. I've attached the Interval points schedule for reference. The owner also receives priority exchange via Interval for other Hyatt Vacation Club resorts.

P.S. If you desire any usage in 2024 let me know and we can discuss.

Thank you,
Diego

since folks will ask, is this a welk platinum ownership (now renamed to hyatt)?

is an important distinction especially since you list a number of actual hyatt resorts in your ownership list.

Yes, there is only one HVC "Platinum" points product. The other points product is named "Portfolio," so it should be self-identifying. The other products in my profile are listed because I also own deeded weeks at those resorts separate from this.

Those aren't any of the 16 "Heritage" resorts which comprise the ever-more-confusing Hyatt Vacation Club, what those of us once called the Hyatt Residence Club, and prior to that, the Hyatt Vacation Club.

Those are resorts from the formerly Welk side of the ever-more-confusing Hyatt Vacation Club.

Actual integration can't come soon enough for me. (However, I don't think it will ever happen.)

no worries, its ridiculously confusing to most people, especially any interested buyers.

not sure two completely separate systems both with the name hyatt vacation club is "self identifying"...one would certainly need to know the difference ahead of time!

It doesn't help matters that there is a lot of Hyatt/Welk location overlap. Sedona, Tahoe, Breck, etc.

I thought the Welks I've stayed in were fine. They're generally in choice locations. I don't like the nuts and bolts of the system nearly as much. But I'm sure for the right kind of person, it is a very good fit.

And if they ever do integrate, everyone wins. (Especially those people who own what used to be called Welk Branson.)

I mean if someone doesn't know if they're interested in buying Platinum Points vs Portfolio Points, then they probably shouldn't be buying at all.

Oh, you'd be surprised. I used to work for Hyatt back when the Pritzkers ran the show. We had Hyatt owners who had no idea how to use their week. All ticked off because they couldn't just turn up somewhere and stay as long as they wanted. Another family didn't get the memo that the resorts are furnished -- and turned up with a Uhaul full of furniture in Key West.

Best bet is to position this as "Hyatt Vacation Club -- formerly Welk" and explain how trading for Hyatt weeks in II works -- because HRC owners never see Hyatt weeks in Interval. They may as well not exist.

The entire system has become confusing -- even to those of us who have owned for decades. The fact they change names every few years isn't helping. This went from Hyatt Vacation Club to Residence Club, back to Vacation Club, and now with a bunch of sub-club headers to differentiate between what was formerly known as HRC and what was formerly known as Welk.

If I was handing out grades for managing a timeshare system, Hyatt would get a D- over the past few years. What I own still works well. But now it's Portfolio this and Heritage that.

Hi there, couple of silly questions. Trying to educate myself if you could help point me in the right direction. If we pick up a resale like this for Platinum HVC, how does that impact access to Interval International? What is the downside when not buying directly. Also if you are willing to share a baseline I'm super curious how much your contract was for originally on this many points

Good questions:
- Owners, retail or resale, are provided a complimentary Interval International Gold membership, so no difference here.
- The only difference of ownership via retail vs resale is that resale owners do not have the ability to convert their Platinum Points to World of Hyatt points. However, most consider this conversion to be a poor value and use of Platinum Points. For retail owners, they can convert their Platinum Points to World of Hyatt Points at a 3:1 conversion + a conversion fee on the order of like $150.
- As I acquired this contract via resale for the same terms I'm offering here, I didn't pay anything besides the closing and transfer costs. That said, I believe a contract of this size would go for approximately $70K via retail if you purchase directly from the developer.

Thank you SO much for all this great information, really helping us with our decisions. Do you mind sharing why you are reselling this one? Just curious if you are trading up again for more points or staying within Hyatt...

Sure, I recently acquired several deeded weeks which means I have a bit of overlap in terms of types of destinations. Therefore, I think it makes sense for me to consolidate my ownerships a bit.

Just curious how do you use your Hyatt points to stay at the Four Seasons?
Part of the trust includes weeks at two Four Seasons resorts. The main difference is that you can only book whole week reservations (no split weeks) and only 12 months out. Otherwise, they book the same as those directly managed by HVC.

Did you close out on the offer for your points?
Not yet. It will take anywhere from 4-6 months to complete the transfer as HVC is notoriously slow.
