Perhaps a look at the numerous Bluegreen groups on Facebook of people trying to give theirs away, or complaining would help.

@sheepy318 Also tell them that there are lots more Timeshare companies out there with better reputation and resort locations like of Marriott, Wyndham or Hilton. So why limit myself to Bluegreen.

BTW We bought two weeks at Marriott newport coast in SoCal for $5k each (resale ) that is in contrast to your parents paying $12K for 4-5 days a year.

Is it possible to get scammed buying resale? Possibly but if you use a well know closing company it is unlikely.

Sounds like the OP's folks are simply bound and determined to grossly overpay for a relatively paltry points allocation with BlueGreen and its' limited reservation options.
It must have quite a persuasive and convincing sales pitch, perhaps made by someone formerly employed successfully selling refrigerators to Eskimos.

The only remaining hope to get them to rescind while they can still do so might be to at least try to get them to read some of the voluminouus input very easily found on the Internet from existing (...and, more important, unhappy and disgruntled) BlueGreen owners.

Listen. They are adults. It's their money. We know the real deal. He told them the truth.
He took the horses to the water trough.

Someone has to purchase direct from the sales liar's in order to feed the resale food chain.

I would let this one go!

We rescinded our first purchase after I read the fine print on the way home. Been happy with resales ever since. So tell your folks congratulations and we'd love to have them here on TUG if that fits their lifestyle. Leave that $12k in the bank for a while to earn some interest.

They just sent their rescindment letter, looks like I finally opened their eyes to how bad of a deal this is. Hopefully it gets accepted. Thank you, everyone, for your help and advice!
It will be processed. BG is honorable enough to not mess with the law on this. It will be a stressful time for them- not knowing if/when they will get refunded. It can take up to 45 days, (depending on when it hits in their billing/posting cycle) and there is no legal obligation for BG to notify them of the progress or even IF it's being processed. They'll just have to watch the account. Just know that it WILL happen.

Congrats to them, and to you for finding TUG and helping your parents. Good Job.

Happy New Year!

Congrats! Welcome to TUG. Research resale in these forums before buying so they can make an informed decision. Rent at different timeshares systems such as Marriott, Westin, HIlton Grand Vacations, Worldmark, Holiday Inn to get a sense of the quality and locations that appeal to them.

We can recommend licensed real estate brokers trusted by this community when they are ready to buy resale and if they are concerned about being scammed. Congrats on saving your parent's money and helping them to make an informed decision. Resale timeshares are great, however you need to know what you are buying because there are many that are a bad deal.

I never bought from developer. bought first resale in 1991. Have taken probably 200 vacations or more. I figured out my total purchase costs (which were mostly closing costs) divided by number of vacations It came out to $10 per vacation. so every trade was RCI cost, maintenance fee, and $10. We did well, However, I extended RCI and paid to combine. Now my area was hit by hurricane, and I have 55 tpus to use up. this has thrown my costs way out of whack.

Ah, The shoe is on the other foot. Instead of the youth not listening to the advice and experience of parents, the parents are the ones that being the obstinate ones. Glad they came around.
