Amazing how much can change in one day. Since this was posted yesterday, now all of California is on lockdown. Desert golf courses were trying to hold out but most if not all are closed now. Some of the nicer restaurants are offering great deals on take out and delivery. You can't beat the weather this time of year and there's nobody around.

WE ARE NOT ON LOCKDOWN!! We are to stay home except to go to the markets, pharmacies, doctors’ offices, walk the dog, go for a walk, pick up some takeout at a local restaurant, gas up the car and a host of other things. What we cannot do is go to the mall, get a mani/pedi, have the roots touched up (thank goodness I went grey) or have/go to a party. Life is far from normal, but we are not confined to quarters.

So how does that work for someone on vacation?

Golf courses are closed, events are cancelled, casinos shut down, restaurants are take out only, there's no music in the park, I think even dog parks are locked, majority of shopping other than grocery is closed. Maybe not technically on lockdown, and not exactly confined, so you can walk the dog and drive around in your car, but it is a "stay at home" order for all of California, and now New York, others coming.

Not all golf courses are closed. Cimarron is open - they just sent me an email.

The golf course here at Mission Hills was open today. I think it’s day to day. Folks also out at pool, just not that many.
Could change tomorrow

Hotels are still open. So I’m sure TS are as well. Most likely for current guest only.

The only hotels that are being used as potential shelters are not resorts. The State actually took over a hospital in NoCal so I’m sure if there are any foreclosed facilities, State will purchase.
The USA will be short 1 million hospital beds. They need to start now converting hotels and resorts. They have started to close. A few states have started to convert to hospitals. It is already too late based on USA being on the Italy trend and only 12 days behind timeline.

If courses encourage walkers and/ or discount carts so every golfer has their own, and restrict proshop/clubhouse access it can continue.

I am very concerned about the virus spread, especially since I just found out that I’m frail and elderly by CDC standards (so much for my P90X workouts keeping me young!). However, there are two reasons I’ve read for the horrifying trajectory of the virus in Italy - they have the second-highest (behind Japan) percentage of elderly people and they are a kissing/hugging society in a way that the US, for the most part, is not. We spent a lovely evening in Scanno some years ago and became friendly with the people at the table next to us at dinner one night. After that, when we encountered them out and about it was a round of kisses every single time. I’ve never encountered that in the US or any of the other countries I’ve visited.

I fervently hope that you are mistaken in your last sentence.

Its not my words, it is the USA health experts. Most of your politicians and media are not reporting their advice as it would cause more panic. Follow evidence not self serving opinions.

Golf course is still open. They have removed the pins and the cups are upside down so you do not have to reach into the cup to get your ball.
They have also removed about 2/3 of the pool chairs and spread out the remaining chairs. We are going home tomorrow

On March 24, 2020, Riverside County issued a notice prohibiting the continued operation of hotels, vacation rentals and home shares until further notice, unless they are being used for coronavirus (COVID-19) mitigation and containment measures, such as housing for persons who need to isolate or quarantine or for essential workers.

Doesn’t sound like it includes timeshares. There are almost certainly major legal problems with preventing someone from accessing their deeded property.

But what is their deeded property.

Mine is week 52 of WKV so if I'm trying to enter Westin Desert Springs on StarOptions am I entering my deeded property.

Would be even muddied with the Westin / Sheraton points trusts utilized by points.

Just received this:

Dear Owners,

In response to the unprecedented situation surrounding the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), we wanted to make you aware that the Health Officer for Riverside County issued an order on March 27, 2020 (“Order”), in an attempt to limit the health impacts and mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

As a result of the Order, The Westin Desert Willow Villas, Palm Desert will be closed to arrivals from March 28 through April 23, 2020 (which date may be extended based on further directives from any governmental authority), and all reservations for arrivals to the property prior to April 24, 2020 will be canceled.

Due to the unprecedented circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 situation, Westin Vacation Club has made the following arrangements for those Owners whose upcoming reservation has been cancelled:
  • Your StarOptions will be returned as Restricted StarOptions and can be used for a future reservation within 120 days of arrival date. This change will take approximately 14 days to process.
  • The expiration date of those Restricted StarOptions has also been extended for use through December 31, 2021 and this extension will be visible in your online account within 45 days. Additionally, any cancellation fee associated with this cancellation of your upcoming reservation will be waived.
Due to extremely high call volume, we ask that you please refrain from contacting Westin Vacation Club Owner Services at this time. For Owners and guests with immediate questions, please contact Westin Vacation Club Customer Care via email at customer.care@vacationclub.com.

We thank you for being part of the Westin Vacation Club family and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work with all Owners to navigate this unprecedented situation.

And yet Vistana's website continues to lag in providing updated information even though one would think it was current with the date shown.

Wow, so someone else cancels your reservation and they still restrict the points.

The additional risk of ownership vs just renting with cash.

My Vistana account seems to show that the StarOptions have been returned to my account, there isn’t any indication that they are restricted. But I haven’t had restricted points before so I’m not sure how they show up differently online.

Click on the top of the dashboard where your SOs balances are and it will bring you to a detail page. They should be designated by a separate line
