Our last two II stays did not qualify for Bonvoy nights

We've not gotten nightly credit on our last two II stays. One was Sheraton Vistana which that does seem to be very hit or miss. But the other was Marriott Village d'ile-de-France. The Bonvoy number was listed on the reservation. The response that we received was that it doesn't qualify because it was a contract rate.

Is this the norm now?

For my Getaway at Grande Vista in May I had to email my folio to bonvoy.program@marriott.com and cited some of the T&C and that seemed to work.

Which T&C? We just tried with the missing nights button which did not work at all.
I tried that as well and it didn't work. Calling didn't work either. Finally a MVC rep tried to help me and told me to email that particular email address. This is what I included in my email:

According to the terms and conditions, qualifying nights include:

ix. Marriott Vacation Club® and Marriott Grand Residence Club® - all locations except for:

A. Grand Residences by Marriott – Mayfair-London, UK

B. Marriott Vacation Club® at The Empire Place©, Bangkok, Thailand

C. Marriott Vacation Club and Marriott Grand Residence Club properties which participate have limited on-property benefits as outlined in Section 4 and Section 7.

It's section 7.1.c of the Bonvoy Terms & Conditions. I have found it no longer works just going through the missing stay request process. Even with the back and forth emails with them after they deny the request.

7.1.c. Due to the nature of the MVC Club and VSE Resort properties, the following special conditions apply to their participation in the Loyalty Program
i. Vacation Club Members will earn Elite Night Credit for a Qualifying Stay at MVC Club and VSE Resort properties, and for stays at Participating Properties as part of the Abound Exchange Program.
ii. Vacation Club Members will earn Points or Miles for all Qualifying Charges at MVC Club and VSE Resort properties.
Try just sending them the above to see if it works. Again, go through the email provided earlier in this thread. Not back and forth with the email you may have received as a result of your missing stay request.
The main question in regard to this is what is a Qualifying Stay and do II exchanges or getaways fall under it. Seems to be a gray area;
ii. A “Qualifying Stay” is a credit pursuant to these Program Rules that counts toward earning Elite Night Credit. Except as otherwise noted in Section 4.2, Members will only earn credit for each Qualifying Night (i) which is part of a Stay at a Qualifying Rate (as described in 2.1.e.), for the guest room the Member personally pays for and stays in, and not for any additional guest rooms, or (ii) for the guest room direct billed to the company who has arranged payment for the Member’s stay that is not associated with a convention or group meeting. Members do not receive Elite Night Credit on stays at Non-Qualifying Rates (see 2.1.f.). Vacation Club Members and Residence Club Members (defined in Section 7 below) may also earn Elite Night Credit as provided in Section 7.1 and 7.2. Members staying at The Ritz-Carlton Club locations under their ownership benefit earn Elite Night Credit as provided in Section 1.2.a.

Then we need to talk about a Qualifying Rate or what is Non-Qulifying Rate;

2.1.f. Non-Qualifying Rates. A “Non-Qualifying Rate” is a rate a Member pays for a Stay in a guest room at a Participating Property which does not qualify to earn Points or Miles, as well as membership tier benefits. Non-Qualifying Rates are those booked using the following methods:
i. The guest room was booked through a tour operator, online travel channel or other third-party channel including, without limitation, expedia.com, hotwire.com, priceline.com, orbitz.com, booking.com, travelocity.com; or
ii. The guest room was booked at a group rate as part of an event, meeting, conference or organized tour, and the Member does not directly pay the Participating Property for such room; or
iii. The guest room was booked at a tour operator, wholesaler, or crew room rate or package including, without limitation, organized tours or package bookings; or
iv. The guest room was complimentary; or
v. A voucher or third-party award was redeemed for the guest room.

Just for information only, did you have any charges on your folio at checkout? My experience with the Sheraton properties is that you need to have something charged to your villa during your stay, or you won't automatically get the ENCs.

How and where to add your Bonvoy number? At check in kiosk?

You can do it ahead of time on Marriott.com, using the app or at checkin by giving it to the person checking you in.

I just processed a missing stay request for Shadow Ridge (this was a weeks exchange, not points) in November and got the following response:

I hope that you enjoyed your stay at Marriotts Shadow Ridge I-The Villages. In order to earn Marriott Bonvoy® points for your stay, the reservation must be booked using a qualified room rate as defined by our terms and conditions. As I reviewed your stay information, I found that your stay was booked at a wholesale, contracted or promotional rate that is not qualified for earnings.

You may find more information about qualifying charges in the Marriott Bonvoy® Terms and Conditions.

Is II a truly non qualified rate? First time this has happened. Would attaching Dioxide45s post on what is a qualifying rate help? Any advice? This could mean the difference between Titanium this year - or not.

If used the text from the Bonvoy Terms and Conditions with varying success. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Last year I ran into a roadblock getting credit for an exchange week. I think it was Mission Hills. They flat out refused, first saying it was non qualifying and then when I providdd the T&C text they said I wasn't on record as an MVC/Vistana owner. My wife is the one who is attached to our ownership for Elite status. I gave up since I got to Titanium through another stay at the end of the year.

I think exchanges are kind of a gray area. Nights will post if everything works out and they post automatically. Some reps will post the ENCs via a missing stay request and others won't. Kind of a crap shoot.

Thanks, I will try sending the T&C's and then if that doesn't work, I will try calling and see if it makes any difference.

I don't receive elite night credits for my stays at the Ritz Carlton Residences properties - Vail, Tahoe and San Francisco. Would I if I charged something to my room during my visit?

Nope…RCCs don’t give ENCs for Abound Point stays. I’ve been told that they do for RCC owners…but since I’m not I can’t say for sure.

I’m in a similar situation. Just finished a 7 night exchange at Shadow Ridge. The reservation had shown up in my Bonvoy account and the front desk informed me I would get my 1000 points as a welcome amenity. Also charged drinks from the pool to the room so I’ll see if we get it. Currently at 69 nights and get titanium through our Abound status anyway - but the free night for hitting 75 would be nice.

Weirdly enough, I’m on a SO reservation now at WMH and the concierge didn’t want to let me do the scratch card as she referred to us as “exchangers”. Side benefit from that was she didn’t harass us to do an update - but still not what you’d expect at the presidential level.

The Bonvoy T&Cs do state that RCC owners staying using their ownership do receive ENCs.

So just an update - we got 7 nights automatically posted from our II exchange into Shadow Ridge I last week.

I’m now 100% on receiving credit for II exchanges/getaways. Not sure what the secret sauce is or why others are having issues; however, I always do the following:

- call the resort (not II or the general Marriott booking like) at least one month beforehand and have them add my Bonvoy number to the reservation. It should then appear in the app as a future trip

- upon arrival ensure that the Bonvoy number is on the room and select my elite welcome gift of 1000 points

- during the stay make at least one room charge. Usually a drink or snack at the pool.

- check out in person rather than using the express service and obtain a printed copy of the folio, ensuring the dates, Bonvoy number and room charge is all listed.

This is my process as well and we're "undefeated" in getting our nights. This has worked whether I'm chasing nights (as primary owner) or my wife (as secondary on the reservation).

The one time I didn't charge something to our room, at Westin Mission Hills, is the one time I I never did get the credit. On day of checkout I realized I hadn't charged anything. They had no marketplace and the bar & grill didn't open until after we were leaving. I find that Marriott resorts are much more consistent with posting Elite Night Credits even without a room charge.

For some reason I've ended up with an error message about half the time when using the app or website - it can find the reservation number from the II confirmation but won't allow my Bonvoy number to be added, so I pretty much just call in.
