Ok, call us crazy ... our journey to 1 million HH points via HGV Owner Updates ...

Well, unfortunately I haven’t been band from OUs. When my DW went to get the concierge to book a restaurant, we got hit up for an OUs. They had a few slots left and were offering 100K HH pts or $200 Visa card. I counter offered 200K HH, she said 150K was the max so I took it.

OU was today at 8:45. The salesman brought in a DRI trust side “expert”. He looked at my portfolio and stated that I had an amazing portfolio. He wanted to know how I was able to get these amazing deeds. I told him shopping on the internet via resale. He stated that I needed to purchase on the trust side to open up all of my points to that product. He could already see that I had book 3BR Pent at Cabo Azul and Whistler via DeX. He knew that it was via Craig ownership. I asked to see what inventory was available at Whistler to book during ski season 2026. He showed me the inventory and I recognized it as DeX inventory. He stated that it was a combination of DeX and trust product inventory. He tried to tell me that all of that inventory would be available to me to book with all of the HGVC points. I didn’t believe him and stated that it would only be available at 6 month mark. He said to not believe TUG and FB groups.

Well, there ya go. I already don't have a FB account. Now I'm going to terminate my TUG membership since *that* site is not reliable and just rely on OU agents for my information. Thanks for the enlightenment!

Cheers.

Where are you? I can’t keep track of your highness … 150k HH. Nice negotiation. Interesting that they have the information … the Chicago VC gave me the song and dance that he couldn’t find my account. Yada yada yada.

Ocean Oak. @JohnnyO , you are selling yourself too cheap for these OUs. My new standard is now 150k HH pts.

I was all set for 125k HH until they withdrew the OU at MarBrisa.
Some would consider it an insult as an EP...
I considered it a privilege, as I got the gift of my time with my family back!
Happy to see @JohnnyO 's & all of yours's journeys towards MM HH pts :)!

The "Concierge Parking Hang Tag Guy" at The Quin - showed me his email stating, "100k was their top offer" No phone call, no extra mile to help me out! I've been getting 120k consistently at other properties - This week... I'm back at The Quin - I'm gonna give him the 200k and I'm not backing down... I have 2 more HVC/HGVC stays the following week on Maui and Hawaii. I will update this page with my best offer.

We got the OU at MarBrisa with the 125K HH points back in March over Spring Break. I was holding out for more, but DW signed up once they got to 125K. Was a great ~40 minutes, one of the faster updates for us, so we gave ourselves high-fives in congrats.

You'll are so dedicated. I used to be much too lazy for this...

I must confess... I want to get to 1M points!

Not sure what I'd with them, but I'm sure I can ask for ideas!

Good question, what do you do with 1M points and how long can you retain them in your account before they expire ?

They don’t expire. But Hilton does devalue the points so they are worth less eventually. We use them for mainly a five night points stay which is the best value because 5th night is free. And it would be nice to use them towards the Maldives overwater some day … or somewhere similar.

Don't count on a "Standard Award" ever opening up at the WA Ithaafushi. Conrad Rangali offers Standard Awards quite frequently - It's the furthest of the Hilton Maldives properties and can only be reached by Sea Plane at $645 RT. Even with 2 "free" Overwater Standard rooms, the bill for the food & adventures put a big dent in my wallet. Since I booked both rooms with my name - We got free diamond breakfasts for 4 people.

Thanks, I learned something with your post the fifth night is free.

It's a slow percentage expiration by devaluation :)

We are at about 2MM points (1,962,940 to be precise). We got a large number of points for a developer purchase about 20 years ago (which we subsequently sold back to them at their request) and don't use them often. We add points with our MFs. Then we use Hilton in international locations, where benefits matter, or the few places without a good Hyatt presence. We have stays in London and Napa. For for upcoming stats to Buenos Aires and Santiago, Hyatt was a better deal. so we generally sit just around 2MM. Plus one FNC each annually.

If we hold onto those 2MM points long enough, eventually we'll be able to cash them in for a latte at Starbucks. Maybe one each if we don't wait too long...

Cheers.

Well...yes and no....it depends on how you look at it.

Yes, those 2MM points will only buy you a latte at Starbucks. On the other hand, Starbucks will be charging $10,000 for that latte so each HHonor point will still be worth about 1/2 a cent each.

Yea, it's really hard to say how it'll go. IIRC Hilton devalued in 2012, then didn't till last year, then did it again 6 months later this year. These last two were mostly at the extremely high end, so if you're like me who usually uses points for 80k or less places, they haven't IMHO seen much change, maybe a slight increase in points needed, around 5k. OTOH, if you were booking the 130k places last year they could be 200k this year, so that's a much bigger deal.

Now, going forward? I'm certainly going to be watching and looking around more for better cash rates vs looking to maximize points earnings on non reward stays. But I'm not as pessimistic as some about the value of HHonors either. I think the main thing is don't expect to spend a decade or more building up for a very high end stay, but expect to use it every two or three years for more standard properties for best results.

We are going to Morritts in Grand Cayman for a week in July. And using 5 nights of points at Hampton Inn Seven Mile Beach. So they do come in handy.

We like the 5th night "free" for the HH stays as well, it's a great perk. Especially if you can then work a room upgrade along the way. We did this in London (Park Lane) last fall. Got a fabulous 1 bedroom suite upgrade, plus the Exec lounge for foods, drinks and easy hanging out space when not otherwise doing something. I believe DW got us something similar for Vienna in August, but don't have details off the top of my head.

What would really be nice is if one could book "5th night free" and then swap in FNC for one more more of the point-paid nights. But seems not allowed.

Cheers.

Not sure if I understand correctly what you are suggesting. Last I used my FNC's was at WA Los Cabos Pedregal. Next planned use of FNC's will be three nights WA Punta Cacique in Costa Rica. These nights are charged at several thousand dollars per night.

After that we hope to tag another 3 or 4 FNC's in conjunction with fifth night free somewhere in the Maldives over water. So that would be the five nights via HH points plus an additional 3 or four nights FNC's. That's 8 or 9 nights after traveling so far. Not sure we would make that long trip for only five nights. But ... you are saying you cannot combine the two programs? Is what I'm suggesting allowed?

Even better would be if we could get a traded week (via DeX EU or RCI) at a timeshare in Maldives (I don't even know what's out there) and extend it even more. Now if that was possible then that would already be a long enough trip there and we would want to do what I think you are suggesting isn't allowed, using 3 or 4 FNC's towards the 5 night deal.

Not much in Maldives on DeX. And only last minute.

The SLH properties are popping up all over the world! I’ve got a couple of them in Europe reserved July/August. I love the fact you proved my point about the WA never having standard awards!
