We are Marriott owners in Hilton Head and have traded into Ocean Pointe through Interval. How do I know if my trade is for an Ocean Front or Ocean Side view? or am I just in line behind OP owners for Ocean Front? My room assignment says DZZAA on Interval.

I'm no expert, but I think you get your actual villa assignment from the resort a couple weeks before check in. In my experience, they don't tell you what you are getting, so you have to call at about that time (don't wait too long or they may tell you they have you assigned already--not that they couldn't change it, I guess).

The only way that you would be assured of an ocean front unit would be if you exchanged for a 3 bedroom unit. They are the only units that are ocean front only. There are some two bedrooms that are ocean front but most of those are ocean view.

As I understand it, room assignments are made approx. one week before check in. The order of preference, and I could be wrong, are OP owners staying on their own time (purchased ocean front), renters who have been able to rent a specific view (have specifically rented and ocean front unit), owners at OP of any other unit, Marriott owners on internal exchange, I.I. exchangers and renters who have not rented specifically ocean front views.

I'm working from memory on this and I'm sure that others have a list that may be more accurate than mine. Depending on the season you are going will determine your chances of getting a great room location vs a first floor room at the back end of the hall. Platinum season seems to be exceptionally tough even for owners staying during their season to get great room locations. On the other hand, we own in Silver season, stay in either Nov. or Dec. and have always had very nice room locations, even when doing an internal exchange. When we've done external exchanges the room location hasn't been that great.

We are going to Ocean Pointe in three weeks. We are owners there and will be occupying during our season. You will need to call in your room request two weeks before arrival. Priority is assigned as follows:

Multiple week OP owners occupying during their season
Single week OP owners occupying during their season
Mutliple OP owners exchanging to a different season
Single week OP owners exchanging to a different season
Multiple week Marriott owners exchanging thru II
Single week Marriott owners exchanging thru II
Guests on a sales preview package
OP owners renting a villa
Marriott reward redemption members redeeming an award
Guests renting a villa
Non MVCI owners exchanging into OP

Hope this helps.

I read on TUG that when you exchange into Ocean Pointe you get the view that the owner deposits into II. We are Marriott owners but not at Ocean Pointe. We have been confirmed into Ocean Pointe for March 2007. Our confirmation is for a 2 bedroom unit: OZZAB. I called Marriott and was told that our reservation was for an ocean front room.

We're at Ocean Point right now and were lucky enough to get an Ocean front unit in the new Kingfish building. We have a two bedroom unit. I also thought that you could only get an ocean front with a three bedroom, but that isn't the case for the Kingfish. We in 3422 and 3423 (4th floor). The view is wonderful!

Resurrection of an old thread; what does this unit mean?

Hi,

We're exchanged into Ocean Pointe for January and were given this unit number HZZAB, and wonder what this means. How do we figure this out? We know it's a 2 bedroom. Also I'm reading about room and building locations and learning that high is better and Kingfisher is away from the party (which may be a benefit). I love watching boats and birds and understand the southern side of Kingfisher gives a view of boats entering the Intercoastal waterway. Is this true?

However, I do want to feel apart of 'things' so would Sailfish be better? Of course it's up to OP where they put us. :p

HZZAB is a 2BR ocean front unit deposited by Marriott. It is also a unit that is the 2BR lock off so it has a king bed in the studio side. This differs from the 2BR side of the 3BR lock off that has two twin beds in the extra bedroom.

If you want Kingfish, you should have a fairly easy time getting it if you request it. I think over half of the OF 2BR units are in Kingfish, this is because the south facing Kingfish units are considered ocean front even though the actually face the channel

Thanks so much. How do you know what this unit is? Is there a code chart somewhere? Thanks again! God's looking out for me; we got RT airfare at $183 each including fees and taxes!

I don't think that is true. When we were at the owners meeting there in August I'm pretty sure they said that most exchangers get oceanside. Even if you get ocean front, the views in the main buildings are obscured by trees unless you are over the 3 or 4th floor. The way they are growing, soon you'll need to be on the 7th fl to look out over the trees. :bawl: If you are going off season and there aren't lot of owners there you might get OF. Most of the year I believe OP is 80-90 % owner occupied.

We have two - two bedroom units and on the II reservation one is HZZAA AND THE OTHER IS HZZAB. What does that mean? Our exchange is the first of December. Should we call and make a request? If so, what building(s) should we request? How do we let them know we own two Marriott units and what information do we need to have available?

Thanks

Not sure exactly what the designations mean, however if you want to be where the action is then request Sailfish or Dolphin Buildings. If you prefer to be on exile island, then request the Kingfish Building.

Enjoy your time.

That's pretty harsh. Out of curiosity, have you ever stayed on "exile" island?

Once we stopped listening to harsh opions like this and actually spent a week in Kingfish, we realized it's really the best location at Ocean Pointe. That one building has it's own pool, it's own grills, it's own fitness center and better views (in our opinion) than any building in the main complex. The only thing I miss is the close proximity of the Starbucks Express but, the short morning walk up the beach more than makes up for that small convenience.

I think better descriptions would be tranquility island vs activity island. Or I guess one could go with exile island vs noisy family island.

No chart, but I have compiled this over the last few years

ZZAO – 3BR Ocean Front unit that can be locked off in to a 2BR and efficiency portions or kept as a full 3BR.
THMV – 2BR portion of a 3BR Ocean Front unit.
THVG – Studio portion of a 3BR Ocean Front unit.
ZZAB – 2BR Ocean Front unit that can be locked off in to 1BR and efficiency portions or kept as full 2BR.
OFTM – 1BR portion of a 2BR Ocean Front unit.
OFTG – Studio portion of 2BR Ocean Front unit.
ZZAA – 2BR Ocean Side unit that can be locked off in to 1BR and efficiency portions or kept as full 2BR.
OVTM – 1BR portion of a 2BR Ocean Side unit.
OVTG – Studio portion of 2BR Ocean Side unit.

Thanks, I've got to copy and keep this somewhere I can find it again! Have you found this applies to any other Marriott timeshares or only Ocean Pointe?

Only Ocean Pointe. Though II does use similar or like codes at other resorts.

Doug, I've studied google maps satellite images of the resort and I think I'm in your camp. Tranquility is good for me and looking out at ships and water is better than raucous pool activity. I hope they honor my ocean view but only time will tell.

We are currently at Ocean Pointe. We own 3 Marriott timeshares elsewhere. We were initially assigned a room on the 4th floor of the Cobia building and after entering said unit we noticed our view was of construction just below us and the street behind us. I called the front desk and said that was not acceptable and they let us move to a 2nd floor unit in the Sailfish building so now our view is of the parking lot in front of the reception building. We used to own ocean front here but sold it and have traded back in twice and both times have gotten what I would consider the dregs of exchange units...they claim they have a 100% occupancy and a very large owners usage so they are pressed to honor requests but I find it hard to believe that they are so filled up they can't give Marriott owners a better room than they have given us 3 different times now. Today they had the audacity to send us an email telling us that we would be getting a review type thing via email soon and they want to have the best reviews ever so please vote accordingly...are they kidding! Be prepared to be told you get what we have left!

KCI, I agree with you about almost 100% owner capacity being unbelievable. I hear that at every resort I check into. I'm tempted to say, "Show Me!". I think assigning rooms is a nightmare for them and they do their best but after awhile they probably give up. And who knows when that point of giving up occurs.

I try to be exceptionally nice when checking in and usually get an acceptable room but with a resort as large as Ocean Pointe I find it hard to believe you weren't accommodated better. What did you request? What did you trade?

So I just went to Marriott.com and looked for a room at Ocean Pointe checking in tomorrow, checking out Thursday. Look what I found:

And these weren't all of them. So they're lying to you that they're full. Go back and get a better room and tell them we're watching!

I took it a step further and 'booked' 3 two bedrooms for tuesday till friday; no problem!

I am always nice when checking in...I traded a 1 bdrm Longboat Key, 5* resort for this in a 59 day window....so it shouldn't matter what I was trading..I am just annoyed with Ocean Pointe because they act like they are the premier resort of all times and personally I am not impressed with this place at all...I trade into non marriott places all the time and get better service than I do with marriotts..going to the dog and pony show on Wed to get informed about the points system...can't wait to tell them what I think of it all...points, weeks or whatever!

Please tell then not to lie about being 100% occupied! We're smarter than they think.
