My mother in law’s independent living community will only allow visitors in an imminent end-of-life situation.

The CCRC I live in has also taken this stance. They have either gone so far as to not allow Resident to visit their spouse who is on the Assisted Living Floor unless it is an end-of-life situation. Personally I am happy they have this policy but many here (mostly those with diminished mental capacities) grouse about it...

Brooklyn near Brighton Beach. What area are you from?
I’m all the way in the city. I was going to say if she was close I would have ran to the store for her and dropped it at her building. Does she have a neighbor that can go out for her?

My niece is in the city. She said it was hard to get food but did, much more expensive.

She is well stocked. A month ago I told her to get stuff and she did. She also has help twice a week that can go shopping for her. She doesn’t need to leave her home, getting her to listen is another thing as it is with my other half. The mentality that I need a milk is more important then staying in is mind blowing to me.

I stocked up on canned Carnation evaporated milk. Evaporated milk is milk with half the water content removed. If one needs milk to add to a recipe, simply use half evaporated milk and half water. With my tea, I like evaporated milk because it is more concentrated and makes my tea less diluted after adding in milk.

I agree. I’m going to need to stock up in a two weeks again, I have decided to do Costco delivery but it’s on Saturday which means the masses will be out buying everything again. I was thinking about venturing out tomorrow to see what’s available but I really don’t want to be out in public.

Talked to dh today (by phone). He is feeling better. He was told it was not a stroke, but most possibly a blood clot. Looks like he will join me being on blood thinners. They are doing at least one more test to make sure there was no brain damage, and then he'll be released sometime this afternoon. I found out the hospital is allowing visitors, but they are taking the temperatures of all visitors when they arrive and there is some kind of questionnaire to be filled out. They are also limiting visits to one hour. I am waiting at home until I hear from him that he is going to be released.

If you have any 24 groceries, try the 2-4 am range. Can't say as for stores near you, but mine start restocking around 11 pm and darned few shoppers in that range. I have been a middle of the night shopper for a few years and now, it's nearly a necessity to get bread, tp, meat. Added benefit to be among very few shoppers.

All the 24 hour or late hour grocery stores near me are now closing earlier 8pm-9pm.

Last update on dh. He is home now. When I went to pick him up I had to fill out a questionnaire with three questions:

1. Have you traveled anywhere in the last 21 days where there has been an outbreak of COVID 19? Yes
2. Do you have any symptoms, like cough? Yes
3. Have you been in contact with anyone who has COVID 19? No

Guard "Based on your answers I can't let you in".

Fine with me. I sat out on a bench by myself in the fresh air while I waited for dh to be brought out. I was much happier out there than inside. And dh, who had postponed an upcoming surgery since he didn't want to be in a hospital with all of "those sick people" was inside.

So sad! My 98 year old mother lives with us and I so hope we don't have to be separated during this time.
