Would you have to pay these high resort fees if you booked directly with the owner via I.e redweek?

No

If you book with an owner than the Vidanta MF / Usage Fee is paid by the owner

The resort fee structure is for exchanges - where the week is developer owned ; and therefore Vidanta has no real income for that week - other than the resort fee.

Vidanta ownerships since 2006 do not require an MF / Usage Fee be paid - until the owner books a week.

They might be getting some revenue from the getaway/extra vacation fee--II and RCI sometimes serve as a "front end" for the developers to rent directly.

All of the Interval language is very consistent at both NV and RM, and across all resort levels, which has me thinking that the getaway price is going to Vidanta (at least in part).

Checked the II getaway price for 2-bed Grand Mayan RM is 2284 vs RCI is 1750 resort fee + 300 exchange fee + points (could be as low as 7500 points close in or much higher if you want to lock in a future date). So about the same.

Not sure if it’s a good value. Is it worth booking through owners on eBay?

How many owners really rent out their weeks? If most of them have a no maintenance fee unless used, what incentive is there for them to bother with renting?

I’m continually surprised by how hard some timeshare owners work to earn so little.

I originally started researching timeshares when my father asked how he could get rid of his.(this is how I found Tugg) My father bought Vidanta back when they were called Mayan Palace and upgraded a couple of times. At one point he had to pay yearly. Now it’s pay only when using plus a payment every 10 years to keep the contract. He paid all this money so I advise just to keep it even though it’s been years since he has gone and try to use it once in a while.

He is retiring soon, maybe with a lot of time in his hands he can use it more or try to rent it.

Isn't that the way Aimfair makes their money (renting other people's Vidanta TSs)? Check out these from their website...(I hope I didn't break any rules posting this?)

The effort is worthwhile if you rent for $ 600- 700 a night / $4200- 4900 a week .

Marriott & Westin HOTEL ROOMS in the Puerto Vallarta Marina area were $ 300+ per night in Feb 2024
A Grand Luxxe RB-71 - 1 bedroom is listed as 1726 sq. feet - so easily 4 times the space of a hotel room

Vidanta & RCI have added F-186 Kingdom of the Sun .
These units are within the NV Theme Park { Vidanta World / BON - "Beauty of Nature"Theme Park]

Listings are for 1 bedrooms / 860 sq feet
Resort fee is $1750 [ for RCI subscriber 1 & 2]

I believe another RCI Vidanta code has been added [ I am posting this Nov 24-2024]

[ I am not sure if this is a totally new code - but it is newly added with current inventory listed .
PS : At one time there were 3 & 5 day codes showing inventory. They are currently not active.]

RCI -DE 71 -The Grand Mayan at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta - 4 nights

Resort fees are as follows for subscriber 1 & 2 / guests
Hotel room - $ 560 / $ 1040
1 bedroom - $ 680 / $ 1280
2 bedroom -$ 1000 / $ 1880

The resort fee per day is basically a pro-rated version of the 7 Day resort fee for the Grand Mayan NV

Here is the 7 Day Grand Mayan listing- RCI 7491- as a comparison .
Hotel room - $ 980 / $ 1820
1 bedroom - $ 1190 / $ 2240
2 bedroom - $ 1750 / $ 3250

My guess is that this 4 night code could be particularly useful for destination weddings booked at Vidanta NV
