New scientific paper: offshore wind turbines alter marine eco-system, could shift ocean currents

ESS = Energy Storage Systems
SMNR = Small Modular Nuclear Reactors
Increasing Costs = Big Buck increases for any number of reasons See article above from Clean Technica

My guess is that we will have alternative energy solutions not too far out. We've used electricity widely for about 125 years give or take. Everything we discuss is how we can harness power to generate electricity. I wouldn't bet on electricity being the method of power distribution long term.

Geothermal is one source that makes sense. It does not trash the environment like land-intensive wind and solar. Nuclear is also a proven technology that has been improved by the new small modular reactor designs.

German environmentalists have been fighting and often successfully suing wind and solar developers there due to the environmental damage they do. Now it looks like Australian environmentalists are also in action to stop wind farms:

Nuclear Power Baby!

What is interesting is that with the German government shutting down all nuclear power in the country, and power prices the highest in the world, German attitudes toward nuclear power are shifting in favor of it. In Spring 2021, Germans favored nuclear by a margin of 49% to 42% in the polls, that margin has now shifted to 67% to 29% in favor.

Hi @Carolinian - The (German) Green Party went from 22% to 19% approval of using Nuclear / when every other party's
members opinion went the other way.

Is their party platform - "Freeze in the dark and enjoy it " ?

When you visit countries liked France, Spain and Portugal you can see wind turbines in the ocean and on land everywhere .

France's main source of power is nuclear, a big reason its electric rates are less than half of those in Germany. Macron did try to push wind for a while, but France recently doubled down on nuclear with renovations to extend the life of existing nuclear plants and authorization of construction of many more. Scandanavian countries are also moving to nuclear and away from wind and solar. Last year, Norway's Supreme Court shut down a major wind farm project in a lawsuit from Sami reindeer herders.

Carolinian should feel vindicated from all of the attacks on his posts regarding this issue. I saw on the news tonight that several states and countries are abandoning their offshore wind turbine plans. A lot of money was wasted on these programs. At least they are now admitting their mistakes and cutting their losses. This is what happens when unproven technologies are rushed through the system.

So long as it is "Green" who cares about reality.

I also remember reading in the past 18 months on BBC about some of the Wind Farms already built were facing long delays to be plugged into the Grid. If you can not deliver your Power to the Grid no income.

The last several months have not been good ones for offshore wind projects
As I posted last month, wind projects are being cancelled because of higher material costs, etc., etc.
The latest blow to carbon neutral energy projects is the cancellation of the use of Small Modular Nuclear Reactors in Utah
This would have been the first implementation of a reactor approved and licensed by all the controlling agencies involved in Nuclear Power Plants

Question? How learn have wind turbines been used in Europe and what have been the effects on the environment?
