Just noticed that 1500 DC Points that were put in a holding account for a cancelled reservation made last week(points had a 12/31/2020 expiration date) now have a 12/31/2021 expiration date..used the chat feature on the Marriot Owners site and the advisor assured me that MVC extended the expiration date....Very Pleased..thanks

This was what I was hoping- dreaming!- might happen.
I haven’t cancelled my mid-April trip yet so I don't have a holding account yet but I looked on MVC at the cancellation policy and it says-
  • For Marriott Vacation Club Destinations Points expiring anytime in 2020 and placed into a Holding Account, the expiration deadline will be extended through December 31, 2020, and can be used for a reservation or select Explorer offerings within 120 days of arrival instead of the previous 60 days of arrival. *2021 Holding Point expiration dates remain unchanged. The December 31, 2020 extension will be made to your account within two weeks.
So what do you think? Does this fit your experience? This policy looks different than it did a few days ago but it doesn’t extend the expiration for holding account points set to expire 2020- which is what I think you are saying? Thanks.

That sounds great,, i am still waiting for my cancellation request to process. not sure how long that will take.

I do not see that at all. Really, few 2020 holding points wouldn't expire Dec 31 2020, not much different than it was, unless they really meant 2021. Just affects those without a year end use year. Must be for new cancels only, mine was cancelled several weeks ago but I don't care really, doesn't affect me either way. But for most, that would be a benefit. It's probably due to closings and travel bans, etc.

Just found a number to call to beg to have my encore package extended until June 2021. It was supposed to expire this June 2020 but when I canceled my May reservation I was told they could only extend it to Dec. 15, 2020.

The gentlemen I spoke to on the phone told me when he looked up my account that the encore package is set to expire Dec. 15, 2021. I was pleasantly surprised and happy!! I also see my 2019 banked MVC points that was put into a holding account is now set to expire next Dec. 2021.

i noticed the points were included in the 12/31/2021 expiration date....i was just being sure...The Advisor told me the 120 days out limit is still in effect....which ,for me, means i wont be forced to use the points before the end of this year.....any good news these days is most welcome....BTW...the Chat Advisor picked up in less than 5 minutes:)

That's wonderful, is it still 120 days out or now 60 days out?

My chat was answered quickly too.
My rep said the change was just made 2 days ago and this newest change has not been updated on their policy page yet.
She also confirmed that it will be a 120 day restriction all the way to 12/31/21.
It is good news- I was sure I was going to lose over 3500 points trying to book out limited time with those restrictions.

Anyone notice that the chat box is now in all caps? Must have been one of the changes made this weekend.

I spent 3 hours one day with the bestest rep ever moving points around so the ones expiring 2020 would be in reservations I was pretty sure would stand. Then I had call again when some more reservations were made and cancelled. The reps were very understanding of what I was trying to do. Even though it was within the 60 day window and points aren't supposed to be moved around they did it.

Now it looks like I just had the opportunity to make new friends at MVC. :)

I've parked some of these Hold 120 2020 points within some upcoming reservations and they are still reflecting 2020. I think if I cancel they will turn into 2021 and then I can rebook. Here's hoping.

This is very good news. Thanks for sharing. It’s good to see some positive comments about MVC every now and then.

Best regards.

Mike

Appears they fixed the wording as now it says.....

Cancelling a Reservation Made with Marriott Vacation Club Destination Points Within 60 Days of Arrival:

  • If you are seeking to cancel your reservation and due to arrive 1 – 60 days from the day you cancel: Vacation Club Points will be returned to a Holding Account, however the Points Premium (if any) will be forfeited.
    • For Marriott Vacation Club Destinations Points expiring anytime in 2020 or 2021 and placed into a Holding Account, the expiration deadline will be extended through December 31, 2021, and can be used for a villa reservation or select Explorer offerings within 120 days of arrival instead of the previous 60 days of arrival. The December 31, 2021 extension will be made to your account within two weeks.
  • If you are seeking to cancel your reservation on the date of arrival or while staying at one of our resorts, Marriott Vacation Club Destination Points will not be returned.

Good news indeed.

I wonder what are the chances of getting Maui in Sept/Oct/Nov 2021 within a 120dy window to add to our legacy week:rolleyes:

It looks like Marriott listened.

All you can do is try and be persistent. I checked Kauai every day, 3 times a day at different times before I was able to addon to a trip within 60 days. You can go weeks without any availability, and then someone cancels. Then it's time to pounce!

Can you use the holding account points to waitlist?

You cannot

Must be a new rule change. I spent much time in February and March completely changing a 14 day Ko'olina studio into 14 nights in a one bedroom - all within 60 days. I did need to add a few regular points, but as I snagged Sunday the 8th and the cancellation was placed into holding, I would use those holding to waitlist Monday the 9th and so on. I ended out cancelling the full original studio reservation with all the points going into holding, and then adding to my 1 bedroom, pretty much 1 night at a time, all through "waitlist holding". The end result was I successfully used all but a handful of the 4,000+ holding points created by cancelling the studio within 60 days, and had 14 nights in a 1 bedroom for just a few more points because of the 30% discount and the holding waitlist. Ended out with 9 different reservations, but of course, they had us in the same beautiful OV the whole time.

More good news. Since it was 9 different reservations, when we decided March 16th it was time to leave (Covid-19), instead of saying we were stuck with the full 2 weeks and could not cancel the last nights, they did in fact cancel our last 4 nights on separate reservations and put those 1700 points in holding - 120 days, instead of just saying "too bad your room had to sit empty." I am glad we were able to use the "waitlist holding" before they apparently cancelled the policy allowing it.
