We have been staying at a popular MVC SC beach resort for quite a few years (6-7) on an Encore package. The first package was offered to us at a non MVC northeast city hotel location for updating owners on the points program. We declined the points purchase but were offered an encore package and a cruise certificate which allowed us to enroll our week in the points program for free, so we signed up.
The encore package was for 7 nights at around $1000 if memory serves. Stays were permitted between Aug 9 to June 13 in a 2 BR villa. We were obliged to attend a presentation and again declined the point purchase and were offered the encore package again for the resort for the next year for a week at a great price, and we accepted as we have family in the area and we could get extended family all together.
This is our 6th or 7th time using the Encore package to stay at this resort in early June each year. We are also going next month for far less than what it would cost to rent from Marriot or from an owner. In all this time I have always been able to reserve the specific week I needed so it seems like they must be holding out weeks from actual owners to book, IDK.
Our situation has changed and this will be our last year taking advantage of this program, but I was wondering if this is MVC practice is preventing owners from booking a week that they are entitled to book but are being held back for these packages to try and make more point sales. This resort was selling out as a weeks sale when we toured it 15 years ago. I wonder if this is happening at my home week resort.
It just makes me feel like MVC is playing alot of games with the weeks available at the expense of its actual owners. Please exaplain to me why I am wrong on this and I will feel better. Thank you.
