Mouse Died on Desktop

Greetings Tug'ers

I'd appreciate help on my desktop.
Long Story... Short: Mouse Bit the Dust:

Am using my laptop to write this.

I noticed my mouse 'moved' slower than 'normal' on my desktop,
so I opened the compartment and twirled the battery
hoping to make better contact with the terminals.

POOF !
The lights on the mouse went out.
So I changed the battery and still NOTHING happened !
I believe my mouse died.

Did some research on using a desktop WITHOUT a mouse (via Short-Cut Keys).
Basically I wanted to open the START button (Ctrl + Esc)
to access the BlueTooth feature.
I wanted to "pair" my laptop's mouse with the desktop (using another mouse-control number).
I use #1 on my mouse for my laptop... I wanted to use #2 for my desktop.

I was able to access Set-Up. > Bluetooth window.
However...it SEEMS that a mouse (dead one) is already 'pair'ed' with the desktop
so it won't let me 'pair' another mouse.

Thus... even if I bought a new mouse, I wouldn't be able to 'pair' it to desktop.
Seems like I need to un-pair the dead mouse so I can 'pair' the new mouse.

Any Advice/Suggestions

TIA

Doug

@Cruiser Too - it might help if you told us a bit more about the workstation you are using and the OS you are running....

it's a bit unclear, but from what you described, yes, unpair the original to gain that pair slot.

I live in the woods near farmland. My first thought also was rodent corpse.

Try another set of batteries...do you have a battery tester? Why would a mouse die?

Mine frequently tries to commit suicide by throwing itself to the floor. But, Logitech, durable stuff.

Reminds me, mine has an on/off switch - hey, is it turned on??

flip that switch more than once, just in case gook is preventing full On.

I like recycling the on-off switch, but if that don't work...

Take it way out of range of the PC (leave it with a friend or at work).
While it is away from home, reboot your PC to see if it's still there.
Try a new mouse that uses a plug-in receiver instead of bluetooth.
-- Just a thought.

I was not able to have 2 mice connected to the same receiver when I tired to do that a few years ago with a laptop when I forgot to take my mouse on vacation and bought a new one. I have a mouse and a keyboard connected to the one I have and it says that it will connect numerous devices. You can go to the Logitech site and disconnect the old one and then connect the new one.

Howdy Richard !

Your suggestion made the most sense. Thank You.

BUT....
All the suggestions require use of a mouse (mine does NOT work):
Right-click a device in the window. ...
Choose the command Remove or Remove Device.
Click the Yes button in the Remove Device dialog box.
Etc, Etc, Etc.

Guess I'll contact my local PC shop.

Thanks again.

Oddly , I thought this was about mice so I read on. I finally finished installing new chrome molly axels on my Jeep. There was a roll of tp in the glove box. A mouse found it and had a liter in the glove box. I also left a granola bar in there so the mouse had it pretty good until today. I'm glad I heard them or it might have been a surprise on the trail. I did manage to get all of them with the shop vac. I let them go into the neighbors yard, lol.

If it is a windows PC (I am not familiar with MAC) you should be able to pair multiple devices. I have 2 mouse paired with my older laptop (originally win 8) as well as with my new desktop. The OS doesn’t care what the device is, just that it is Bluetooth. Do some more google searching and you’ll find the correct way to do it.
