Moderating in the Age of COVID-19

why would a post about a virus be "political" ?

Because they turn to how the government is handling the issue. Are you trying to tell me you haven’t seen this?

"how the government is handling the issue" .... or a certain state government is handling the virus or what a certain person or organization said about the virus
or even procedures or statistics about the virus
.
do you see or hear ?o_O

I don’t know, I guess we see things differently. All what you say in the quote above is against TUG rules in my opinion.

I stopped going on Facebook because of the nastiness of politics. Tug has always been my safe space, a place to go with a love of travel and discussions of so much more in the tug lounge. Many friendships have occurred.

Tug has been a forum like no other. Lots of sharing, compassion, friends. Do we really want that to change?

Those who know me, know I normally stay away from controversy. When all the bashing and political stuff continued my first though was to just stop going to Tug but I decided no way.

Tug is way too important. Brian, his dad and all the moderators built a community with integrity and tug means so much to many of their members. So I have been vocal. The few should not ruin it for the rest of us.

I also find many of the "I am going to ignore you" posts that I see here and in other places to be rather juvenile. Personally, if you don't want to see something, just setup the ignore and move on. I see no reason to advertise it other than to stoke or enflame the conversation even more.

I have been advocating for an Ignore More add in over on the About TUG BBS forum. This would allow users to ignore entire threads or forums if so desired. The thing I don't like about the ignore function for users is that I can see "You are ignoring this member" when one of their posts is in the thread or quoted. Seems silly to setup an ignore only to see that someone I am ignoring posted something. I almost inevitably click on the link to show the ignored content. Curiosity killed the cat I suppose.

I'm also here because TUG spoke the truth about timeshares ... I like that
and I've emailed the "timeshare truth" to places where the timeshare truth is not so prevalent - TUG has been eye-opening for the "timeshare truth"

But I would have to say some people do not recognize the "truth" when it comes to "contentious social issues" :) in the lounge
(but that doesn't bother me)

I completely agree with your comments about the Ignored posts showing up and your suggestion to ignore threads or forums. It would make my life a lot easier, apparently. ;-)

You are joking right? :)

Thank you Moderators for keeping it all very streamlined and for preserving the real reason that TUG exists. TUG exists as a forum as it is a generous way to educate and to take advantage of a product-timeshares- that is difficult to understand and to effectively use. Most everyone who reads the website benefits from the dissemination of information and the more experienced timeshare owners provide advice, selflessly. I, too, could not get through the COVID-19 thread and I had to log out without comment. But, this deadly pandemic, in addition to producing communal fear and anxiety, brings out the worst in some personalities. Case-in-point, my Nextdoor Neighbor newsfeeds have been filled with complaints about our neighbors' various behaviors. I stopped checking in and it has been less than helpful. As to the Moderators, again, thank you for seeing the big picture of TUG and thank you for your volunteerism to maintain the essence and raison d'être of TUG.

the moderators must do a good job - I've actually never seen a post started by "Trump says" or "Pelosi says"
it's usually the "dog whistle" post .... e.g. - a post that says most people dislike _______ (person) or the ______ (organization/ person) is a total failure
then the fur flies !!
My issue is why do TUGgers need to add in snide remarks like that. It is a total turnoff.

But think about it in regards to posting ..... is it really "snide" ... or the "truth" when people consider a post "contentious" ;)
I would say really really consider it ....

Your truth is a lie to me. My truth is a lie to you. So why do we want to try to push the "truth" that is a lie to the other person? It is a total waste of time.

yes, agreed, it is generally a waste of time
no one is going to be convinced on a "contentious social issue" on this forum !

yes, sad... and you maybe made my point ;)
Your statement “

This statement is insulting to others. You might think it is ok but it isn’t. Now they can close this thread too.

Panina, I'm sorry if you consider the difference in people's opinions of contentious social "truths" insulting
