A tripadvisor review from June claims the Maui health dept has received many bed bug complaints and that resort management did not handle the situation in a satisfactory manner. I realize reviews are not reliable but I am still influenced by them. Bed bugs can happen anywhere and the best we can hope is that management is well trained and skilled at solving the problem. This review implied that management was not handling the situation well. I know we have many owners here, can anyone comment on this issue?

I have stayed hundreds of nights at the Marriott Marriott Ocean club over the last 21 years. I have never seen a bedbug. I have never seen evidence of a bed bug. And, I have never heard anyone complain of a bed boat until this string.

That is not to say that there are never any bedbugs. Bedbugs can happen anywhere. But, if it were a legitimate and troubling issue, I think I would’ve seen or heard of some evidence by now.

Agreed with sdtugger -- I've been going annually since 2008 and haven't never experienced a problem. I've not heard this before.

I assume people sometimes use negative reviews to try to negotiate compensation from hotels. I sometimes have seen hotels reply to reviews denying, or explaining via management response. I have never stayed at MOC but as I stated, the review concerned me (even though I know I should discount them) and appreciate hearing from owners.

In the last 22 years I have stayed approx. 200 nights at MOC and never seen or heard of a bed bug.

There seems to be a small group of people on TA that don’t like Marriott and will post all sorts of trash that’s not true. TA has done such a poor job of policing the fake reviews, both good and bad, I stopped using them and stopped posting reviews on their site.

At one point there was a small group posting bad reviews of a MVC timeshare because the resort made the decision to stop feeding the feral cats. There were enough negative posts, all concerning the feral cats, that it drove down the ratings. They didn’t try to hide it and they never said anything about the resort other than the resort should be condemned because they stopped feeding the feral cats. TA didn’t do anything about those reviews and left them in place. That’s when I stopped using TA as a resource for travel reviews.

I would love to hear about your adventures.

Wife and I have finally retired like you have been. Now my problem is what the heck to do with all these MVC weeks now? We are travelling and cruising which does not leave time for my MKO stays.

Would love to talk over a beverage.

Frank…I’m willing to “home” sit some of your MKO weeks for you…just to keep them safe when you are off cruising. Just let me know when. ;)
