I'm wondering if anyone has been to MOC recently and could give us an update on the construction. If I recall correctly, the hub formerly said that the electric work would be done by end of June? Regardless, the hub now says that the electric work will be done by the end of August. However, it still says the remodels started June 1. Can anyone give a report? Thanks.

We are staying at the Hyatt next door right now. We noticed they are still working on MOC, but don’t know the details of their progress.

I was planning on waiting a couple of months and posting this same question.
I hope as tuggers stay here through out the construction period they will post their first hand experiences.
Just general info on the hub.
thanks!

PS- comments on how the full kitchen buildings are affected are welcome too!

We left Maui a week or so ago, and the construction noise was not bad at all. They're working on the Lanai tower right now, ocean view side. So if you've got a trip coming up, your best bet may be to request the Molokai tower (which is my favorite tower anyway).

Thank you! Is the generator still providing electricity?

I actually don't think the generators were in use while we were there? I saw them out back, but swear they were not on. I imagine that they'll only be using them when they have to switch the power, so maybe they were not working on the electrical at the time, but instead the plumbing, etc.

This 👆.

Overall, the majority of the MMOC resort amenities are not impacted.

The construction noise is currently in the Lanai tower, Oceanview rooms facing the pool. It is quite loud midday. Not a problem for us, as we are staying and prefer the Molokai tower anyhow. But, I imagine this is definitely loud for those staying in the Lanai tower.

There is also some construction on the side of the Starbucks where the bathrooms are (currently closed) as they are adding a “Hulascoops Ice Cream”. This part is not noisy.

Lastly, “power”. During our stay, they did cut power overnight one evening in Molokai tower due to maintenance. They provided a note in advance to those rooms impacted. We were worried about food in the fridge/freezer, so added frozen ice packs. All ended up fine. Biggest complaint was the A/C didn’t run (now power) from about 11pm to 3am ish, so it got a little warm and stuffy for my SO. No idea why they didn’t use generators as backup, if they had them?

Re- “power”. A worker at the Island Activity stand poolside refused to allow me to use their air pump one day to pump up an inner tube due to “short of power”. Really!? I had to go to the Lahaina building towel hut, which runs on different power. Not a problem, but was the only real negative experience I recall at MMOC. The worker continued to pump up new rafts for sale. Hmm.

I'm extremely annoyed at how inconsistent this is. Sometimes I receive these e-mails, and sometimes I don't. Thanks for posting!

Thought I would provide an update from MOC:

The generators seem to be running 24/7. They are amazingly loud. They sit behind the parking garage attached to the Lahaina tower. It is difficult to hear a normal conversation in parts of the parking structure. I am very glad we are on the other side of the property. If my memory serves, the electrical project was supposed to be complete by June 1. If so, this is way behind.

Resort workers told us that the entire project is way behind. They said that the contractor told Marriott that they were not very good at plumbing, but that they would do their best to do the plumbing job. The resort workers told us that the first plumbing repair efforts failed, and the project had to be redone. This put everything significantly behind and may be one explanation for the delay in the electrical project.

We were also told that the room renovations are way behind. They have taken the entire ocean view side of the lanai Tower and half of the oceanfront portion out of service. You can see the appliances sitting on the lanai. We were told that the construction workers are staying in those units. One benefit is that it makes the resort much less crowded….

We will be back in December and January and I’m very worried that there will be ongoing construction for much of 2025.

I can only verify what I can actually see. But, it does appear that things are behind. I wonder how overages are handled in the contract….

Anyone who has ever lived in Hawaii will not be even a little bit surprised that the project is behind. I’m pretty sure there has never been a large project in the history of the state which has finished on time. Living there, you just get used to the fact that when you’re told something will be done by next Tuesday, you need to add a week or two. It shouldn’t be that way, but…one must accept the things they cannot change.

But big project delays are going to create reservation problem for MVC since I’m sure they didn’t plan for huge numbers of rooms to be out of service indefinitely. So I hope they can get things back on track. We will be there in November and hope the noisy stuff is done before then.

I agree that some delay is expected. But, this appears to be significant delay. And, I suspect that there will be various costs potentially including added construction costs. I am wondering how that is handled and who is watching this…

I believe any cost increases for construction (unless it was a fixed price contract) would be paid from one or more of the following: Existing reserves, Maintenance Fee increase and/or a Special Assessment.

I'm here this week. Almost every night we receive notice that the electrical will be shut off from 11pm to 6am. So they are still working on it. Also, the fire alarm went off one of the nights as well.

Several years ago we were in Worldmark West Yellowstone with Son, DIL, and 3 GKIDS. They shut off the power in the middle of the night to work on it. All GKids have been raised with White Noise Generators. As soon as the White Noise Generators went down the Gkids all woke up and could not go back to sleep. Luckily they were in a different Unit from us. It was a long night for them. I have always wondered what happens when they go away to College.

Those people that say the young people today are snowflakes? They might be right... :p

Did the new Welcome Center at MOC ever get finished ?

Just making sure my understanding is correct. This is just on the older unit/hotel conversions. The new towers are not getting any renovations? Are new towers also impacted by the power outages?

I’ll post since you haven’t recieved a reply yet. Hopefully someone on site with give updates.
I wondered the same thing since we are staying in the new towers in November.
I posted your same question then I had a look at the hub and found this-

Construction Updates

The resort’s Molokai, Maui, and Lanai towers will be undergoing an electrical distribution system upgrade, which is currently anticipated to take place approximately from Mar. 1 through Sept. 30, 2024.

Please note that during this time, there is the possibility of certain areas of the resort being without electricity during extended periods of time, including electricity in villas during overnight hours. Once the local island electric company transitions the resort to generator power, which is anticipated in early August 2024, the replacement of the electrical distribution system will require the villa towers to be on generator power 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the project's duration; however, there may be intermittent disruption in electricity in connection with the transition back to the resort electrical system, which is anticipated at the end of August 2024.

My interpretation is it is just the old towers for the electrical disruption is anticipated to be done by 9/30.
The renovations are just to the old towers.
But there will be construction noise through next summer.
I have been checking the hub regularly.
You can email the resort with specific questions mvchnmmh.prearrival@vacationclub.com

There's also this:

The resort’s Molokai, Maui, and Lanai towers will be undergoing a significant villa refurbishment and plumbing infrastructure renovation project, which is currently anticipated to take place approximately June 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. This work will occur daily between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. HST, and there will be construction noise, including noise from demolition, operating machinery, and carpentry. There may be intermittent impacts to resort amenities during the project.

Anyone there now who can give an update?
I have oceanfront in the new towers for next month.
Thinking of requesting Napili tower to be furthest from construction.

Bumping this up- anyone been recently with a report on how the renovations are going? Any amenities affected? We will be in the new towers and I am checking the hub (Hasn’t been updated since 9/13).

Also- what is the best place to stop from groceries on the way from the airport to the resort. Just 2 of us, we don’t need a big haul- do need wine.

The Safeway where the Lahaina bypass rejoins the main hwy 30 is open I believe, there’s also a supermarket on lower Honopiilani rd right after it splits from main rd as well as another in Napili center.
Have a great trip😎
