I just saw this post from Internet travel blogger One Mile at a Time:

Here's the lead paragraph:

Marriott has just launched a 15% off sale for the purchase of gift cards. This promotion is targeted at those who have a US-issued Marriott Bonvoy credit card, and it’s also likely targeted beyond that. In order to take advantage of this offer, check your email, and look for a one-time redemption code. The email I received has the subject line “Ends April 18: Card Members Save 15% on eGiftCards.”

The hyperlink in that paragraph takes you to the gift card purchase website: https://wwws-usa2.givex.com/cws4.0/marriottprcom/e-gifts/

It's interesting that the gift card purchase page doesn't seem to request the one-time redemption code that One Mile at a Time refers to. Perhaps it would be needed if you proceeded beyond this page by adding something to your shopping cart?

I haven't received an email from Marriott, but perhaps others on TUG may have.

I have never paid Marriott timeshare maintenance fees with a Marriott gift card. Is that possible, or not?

I received the email this morning....and there is a one-time redemption code provided.

Max spend is $1000.

I got the email as well with a redemption code and for 20% off.

I got the email and would like to utilize it but won't be spending the gift card for over six months. I recall issues in the past where people were having gift card balances stolen, so I am not sure it is worth the risk.

Thanks for the heads up ! I did one with 15% off. May redeem it on Monday !

So did you need to enter the redemption code somewhere in order to complete the gift card purchase?

I know several years ago gift cards were available at a discount, using a Bonvoy CC, that could be used to pay maintenance fees. Is this the case for this offer?

What will you do with the cards? I am pretty sure you cannot pay MF's with them. Maybe you can pay TAT fees in Hawaii. Maybe not.

This offer would work best when you incur charges to be paid onsite at the property, such as a hotel or timeshare, where you might have taxes or food and beverage expenses charged back to your room.

I agree that you can't use these for MF payments.

We have a multi-night hotel stay coming up next month, so I am interested, but I will do a bit more research before purchasing. I got stuck behind a guy trying to redeem many gift cards in Hawaii, and he was having trouble. I seem to recall reading a blog post about presenting any gift cards to the front desk after you have charges posted to your folio, but the day before checkout so that they won't have already charged your credit card.

No, you can't use them to pay maintenance fees. In the past, many years ago, the gift cards were Visa based. They didn't show Visa on them but the numbers from the card as well as some other information could be used to utilize them like a credit card to make maintenance fee payments. Not anymore.

I have heard about issues with front desk staff not really knowing how to redeem gift cards. You have to be saving a considerable amount of cash to make it worthwhile.

For my brother-in-law and his wife's honeymoon last year I was able to get them a stay at the Aruba Surf Club via Interval.

So for their wedding gift we bought them a Marriott gift Card as well so they could use it to cover a nice dinner at the resort or some drinks or whatever. They didn't have any issues using it to cover their on-property spend on their folio. Now It was a physical gift card I ordered from Marriott instead of an e-gift card so that I had something to wrap for the wedding gift so not sure if maybe that just made it easier.

We have TAT fees we have to pay in August for our 3-week stay at Westin. Our friends are in their own unit, so six weeks, that would use $1000, but is it worth it to try? Probably not.

It would save you $150 bucks. Looking at the terms and conditions, it doesn't explicitly indicate taxes are covered, but I suspect by the term "stays" anything charged to a room folio is covered. Actually thinking now about all the TSO taxes we will have to pay in Hawaii, I may buy one and if it doesn't work I have another use for it as long as the balance doesn't get stolen.

At WKORVN, went to the front desk, stated a wanted to pay with gift card.
Associate says "of course" when was I checking out and how much was the card. Told her $1,000 and checking out tomorrow.
Said if she took it now their system would take the whole amount and would not refund. Told me to return tomorrow and apply it then to the final bill.
She said they do not auto charge to CC on file until 10 am check out time.

My plan is to come down around 8:30 to apply it.
This could be unique to their system regarding taking the whole amount upfront but I will wait until tomorrow.

Perehaps it just applies the incidental hold to the gift card. Hard to understand how it could just take the whole balance with no refund. Who gets that money?

Ya got me but I wasn't going to chance it!

When I used Gift Cards previously they had to specify how much they would take but it didn't have to be the entire balance. I was told that it would take the amount specified and nothing could be returned to the card. They are just too difficult tot use for me to fool with. Years ago I did get like $4K worth and I did use it all eventually. I don't recall the discount for certain but I'm pretty sure it was more than 30%. It wasn't worth it given the aggravations involved.

I bought e-gift cards every year from the Travel America Daily Getaways @ 20% off. (This program no longer exists.) I've never had a problem using them at checkout for meals, parking, and the room; sometimes the manager had to show the clerk how to process them. I finally used up 4 of the last 5 in February that I bought 8 and 4 years ago. Still have one left with about $300 on it. I don't stay at Marriotts much anymore, so I'm still debating about buying more with this special.

If you were going to buy the Westin Heavenly Bed, this would be another discount. I saw a recent email with the discounted price.

Does anyone know who the issuer is of the gift cards?

If you’re thinking that the issuer is Marriott, and that you’ll earn 6 points per dollar on the Marriott credit card that you use, you may be in for a surprise.

Yes, I had to enter the redemption code on the checkout page before it would process the order.
