Hello,

I was searching the TUG Marketplace for a resale in British Columbia and came across a listing that interested me. Based upon the ad, I assumed it was being sold by the owner. I sent an email and received a response from Samantha Badrinarain from Liberty Consultants.

I had some basic questions regarding the listing and she was unable to provide any information, I then asked if they cold pass along my contact information to the actual owner so I could obtain the information I was seeking. When I made the request, I assured Ms. Badrinarain that I was not interested in closing a deal behind their back but just had further questions. Ms. Barinarain denied the request and I advised her that then I was not interested and would look elsewhere.

The purpose of my post is that it was my understanding that TUG was a group designed to provide a forum for owners or potential owners of timeshares but it seems by having members such as Liberty Consultants Inc. as members and posting resales but not being able to provide basic information regarding the listing can be seen as devaluing the forum as it seems apparent that Liberty Consultants Inc. only interest in being a part of the group is to generate revenue.

Sorry for the rant however, it was just a frustrating experience.

I suspect they are a broker for the seller. This would be normal course of business for a timeshare real estate broker. Sure you don't want to close a deal behind their back and cut them out, but they don't know that and I can understand why they won't want to just take your word for it. She should have offered to forward your questions to the seller and get back to you.

I understand they are a broker but it was obvious they didn't really have any information regarding the reslae they listed. I guess my main point is that while I see the need for brokers, it would be nice if the listing were more transparent and that it was clear in the listing that the listing was made bya broker and not an owner.

My guess is that the business is actually called Liberty Consultations, Inc. Appears there are mixed reviews. Here is just one older thread.

when folks post listings in the marketplace they are asked if they are the owner or a broker and that should be displayed on the listing itself.

I checked the two ads that I received responses from Liberty Consultants Inc. and neither ad has any indication that it is a broker who posted the listing. For the record the listings are L1140 and NWA # 309. In both cases my emails were responded to Samantha Badrinarain.

I looked at some other ads and based upon the "Member since May 2016" notation on the ad makes me suspect that these are also listing through Liberty Consultants Inc. It would be nice if the ads would clearly state in plain writing that it is a broker listing and that maybe the administrators look at how many ads Liberty Consultants Inc. actually have posted on this marketplace.

That being said, I am now limiting my search to Redweek as I have no interest in dealing with brokers that aren't transparent in the initial listing.

There are lots of brokers on Redweek too. I also think Redweek has issues with broker fishing listings. Meaning, brokers post generic ads just to get contacts that they can then find out what you really want and contact you later. No platform is perfect and I still don't see a broker willing to share their clients contact information so you can contact them directly. Doesn't matter if the broker lists on TUG or Redweek.

I can understand the broker possibly not wanting to share contact information but that being said, how do they expect to sell anything when the broker can't even provide basic information.

My main point is that ads posted by brokers are not transparent and there appears to be no way for a person to determine whether an ad is posted by an individual or a broker - Personally, I don't like any of my information including my name or email address be in the possession of a Timeshare Broker without my knowledge or consent.

you are going to be in for a shock to discover brokers on redweek too...

ive already requested the broker/individual tag to be restored to listings, im not sure why it went away in the first place but it exists for this very reason.

that said, most listing descriptions indicate the brokers name/etc that I have seen.

TUGBrian - I understand there are also brokers on Redweek and never tried to insinuate there weren't.

While I am sure there are many listings on this site I haven't looked at that clearly indicate they are posted by brokers, I have pointed out that out of the 4 listings I sent inquires too, two of those listings were from Liberty Consultants Inc. (L1140 & NWA # 309) and no where on those listing there is any indication they are listed by a broker. In fact, I believe the tab to send an inquiry states that you are submitting your query to the "Owner"

There are a few more listings in the British Columbia Canada section that I suspect have also been listed by Liberty based upon the descriptions and the notation "Member since May 2016".

I have no issues dealing with brokers however, I do have an issue dealing with companies that aren't upfront and transparent in their advertisements but maybe I am a little more suspicious of companies that conduct business in that manner after an over 30 year career in Law Enforcement.

nothing wrong with that, id be hesitant to move forward with someone who wasnt upfront and honest as well.

however it seemed in their first response to you, they indicated they were brokers? or perhaps I just read that wrong and they continued to make you believe they were the owners instead?
