Last post got taken down for some reason. I was inquiring on favorite timeshares on Kauai.

We can do Kauai Beach Club for 7 days then Kauai Lagoons for 5.

or,

Waihoa Beach Club 7 days then Kauai Lagoons for 5 days.

Both of them approximately 5k total.

Are either of these situations recommended (too many days??)
Is is a big deal to swich timeshares in middle of trip? ( my wife thinks so but I dont)

Our plan is to eat breakfast/lunch around in and around timeshare and go out to dinner.

Thank you for any advice. We have never been to Kauai and have not been to islands in 15 years or so.

We have an 18 and 21 year with us.

Kauai Beach Club is the most hated Marriott in Hawaii. I personally love it, but the complaints that people have simply don't bother me (except the lack of a full kitchen)....that being said:

I'd plan on doing Waiohai for 7 days and then Kauai Lagoons for 5 days. Kauai Lagoons is very close to Kauai Beach Club and this will allow you to be in a different area.

I've never stayed there (only walked past as we were staying at Kauai Beach Club), but Kauai Lagoons is supposed to be one of the nicest Marriott's in the system.

I don't want to complicate things but if there is availability at the Westin Princeville, you may consider that as well. We did a split stay and spent a couple of nights in Princeville and really enjoyed it. It allowed us to do several of the things in the North Shore without needing to drive as much.

I think you'll have a fantastic time regardless. Enjoy!

Lol- it is a big deal to switch timeshares in the middle of the trip if your wife doesn’t want to!
So, what are your specific reasons for wanting to?

I’m not sure overall what you are asking- everyone has their own preferences, likes, dislikes.
What are you looking for?

KBC is a hotel conversion, lacks full kitchen, but is attached to a hotel, walking distance to restaurants, on a small but nice beach, huge pool, close to the airport.

Lagoons is right near KBC, nice units, full kitchens, no beach.

Waihoa is more of a typical MVC, 2Br, full Kitchens, located by Poipu beach, about a half hour from the airport so these properties are all fairly close together.

Have a look at the properties on the MVC app- you can see the floor plans under Accomidations, amenities, activities schedule.

12 nights is not too much for Kauai in my opinion- it’s my favorite!

Just to get different look at the island and different timeshares. 12 days in same resort boring to me lol. Also planning on some golf as well. Our kids like the beach so planning more the south side of island.

Why leave Waiohai? It is one of the best Hawaii timeshares and far and away the best on Kauai. KBC is like a of a hotel and converted hotel on more like a public beach in a bay. Lagoons is up the hill with a hike down to a small beach.

Waiohai is none of the above on a beautiful beach and grounds.

Better to be "bored" than bummed. If you do this do Waiohai last so the first part won't feel as bad (until you are gone and loving Waiohai.).

Renting and confined to availability. Noted. We could rent a house after Waiohai.

Your kids will be disappointed with no beach at lagoons especially after having one previously.
I would look at a different option.

If you could rent KBC/ book with cash on Marriott for the end of the trip that might work- nice pool, small beach for kids and walk to dining options so you can take your wife out to repay her for moving mid trip. Close to the airport too. More like first half of the trip is a timeshare and the 2nd half is a hotel suite.

And to answer the switching TS question more seriously you will have to check out by 10 and check in time is 4 but they will hold your bags and be able to use the facilities. Not sure about storing cold food but if you are going to KBC you need to pare down to the small fridge anyway.

Have you considered another island if you are going to move anyway.
I am normally against that but for 5 nights it’s might be worth it- 5 nights at Maui Ocean club would be great because there is a lot to do at the resort and a few easy activities to break up beach time.

We have stay stayed there before...trying to get different timeshare experiences.

Thank you though.

Been to Kauai many times and am one of those who like Kauai Beach Club, but may not be a great option for you. The resort is gorgeous, but limited kitchens, no in unit laundry, but the beach is really nice and there is a small mall across the street with casual restaurants and the kids could probably be entertained enough for a few days.

The problem with Lagoons (although we have not stayed there and don't even request it for this reason) is that you are marooned in a resort that has lovely units (was apparently originally built as a very high end apartment complex) but is a drive, or a mile walk to anything, I.e. the KBC, Dukes, the mall etc.. There is no beach, no restaurants, no shops (I am not even sure they have a small sundries shop).

Waiohai is great and there are lots of good restaurants, a fabulous beach etc. Have you considered 5 days in Princeville and 7 at Waiohai? We often go for 2 weeks and stay a week at WPORV and a week at Waiohai. I personally wouldn't go to another island. Eats up Too much vacation time spent traveling, renting another car, stocking up another kitchen, in and out of rental cars, airports etc. OGG is an hours drive from Kanapali etc. Kauai is a gorgeous island with a lot to offer.

We used to own KBC and Waiohai and have also stayed at Princeville multiple times. I would split the trip between Waiohai and Princeville if I were traveling with kids. I have walked Lagoons (never stayed there); I agree it is beautiful, but it is very isolated; your kids will feel like they are in jail.

Lagoon - Great for Couple if you want quiet, boring for kids.
When we went our Daughter and Husband stayed at KBC and loved it. Lots more to do and closer to everything.

I second this suggestion. Westin Princeville gives you a second base to explore north Kauai (examples: Hanalei, Anini beach, Kilauea, Haena State Park). Lihue and Poipu are pretty close to each other.

This. I'm one of those that hate KBC to the point I'd rather be working.

Waiohai is our favorite Hawaiian MVC and one of the resorts at which we own. Great villas w/full kitchen and W/D, wonderful beach and ocean (with reef!), and good dining a long walk or short drive away. But it is 2BR only and unless you're a multi week owner you won't get any of the Oceanfront View villas. So if you are booking using points I recommend reserving Island View w/good views of the gardens instead of Ocean View w/a peek at the ocean over the parking lot next door.

KBC is tied as our second favorite Hawaiian MVC resort (with Waikoloa) and the other one at which we own. Truly amazing views if you book Oceanfront, a great pool complex with five enormous hot tubs and a very nice beach on the bay. Many good to great restaurants a short walk away. The downsides? No cooktop in the kitchenette (which is otherwise quite reasonable), the W/Ds are in the laundry room, and OF 2BRs are as rare as hen's teeth.

Lagoons is in my mind a complete waste of time (particularly with an 18 and 21 year old) and the one Hawaiian MVC to which we've never been. No beach nor onsite dining means you'll be driving everywhere (particularly since the shuttle bus to KBC stopped when Sonesta took over the hotel side). But the villas are supposed to be nice.

There is also the Westin Princeville but you're up on a bluff away from the beach and views are a roll of the dice. And the Sheraton Kauai Resort Villas which is inferior to Waiohai in every way except that it has studios and 1BRs.

I would say that 12 days isn't too much time on Kauai though I would try to stay both in Koloa and Lihue/Princeville. But given those 12 nights I would spend a week at Waiohai and 5 nights at Waikoloa, Ko Olina, or MOC.

Ok thank you for everyone input. We settled on Marriott Waiohai 2bd Island View (anyone have a good room request?), then renting a house that I can't afford that my wife loves for 5 days in Koloa. Anybody have a site for discount golf? Hoping to play 3-5 times.

Thank you.

If you want a different view, you should head to the Princeville area. Having said that, I LOVE Kauai and would stay just about anywhere.

We are trying this course in a couple weeks. It's probably a little rough but we're used to that here on Molokai. 🤙🏻

For those exchanging into Waiohai using Abound Points, I always suggest choosing IV as the better OV villas usually go to owners while most IV views are quite nice.

You can ask for Hales 1, 2, or 8 (but depending on dates may not get them) but all the Hales have nice IV villas. Just ask to not face the parking lot.

You're making the right choice. One of the more important things about Kauai is that Poipu Beach has the most sun and is still sunny when the other parts of the island is raining like heck -- especially up north in Princeville. We own at Waiohai and have stayed at the KBC and Kauai Lagoons...it has the advantage of being closer to Lihue but like most folks have said, you have a much better "beach experience" (including snorkeling right off the property) in the Poipu area.

We are also golfers and the 9-hole Kukuiolono course is a fun course for practicing your short game but don't expect Augusta fairways or roughs (oh, pardon me...I should say "second cut"). Also, they only take cash and don't take reservations...you have to show up but staff is very nice and accommodating. Many locals play here. The municipal course - Wailua - is about 35 minutes away and you head back to Lihue to get there. It's a great course for being a muni (and the price is also great) and the views are great.

The other courses are expensive although if you're a GolfNow or TeeOff type of person (https://www.golfnow.com/), you'll be able to get some good deals but we've found Kauai greens fees more expensive than Maui for example. The courses nearest Waiohai in addition to Kukuilono are Poipu Bay (next to Hyatt), Kiahuna Plantation (one of the oldest and original courses on the island) and the newest but private Kukuiula (kukui is word for some type of nut...). Up north is Princeville which has the Makai Golf Course (Tiger Woods said this was one of his favorite courses he played on video games) and has been redone several times. You also have Puakea which is a fee-for-play course (sometimes shows up on GolfNow/TeeOff).

Enjoy Kauai...hit 'em long and straight!
