Kauai Questions Again

This. I'm one of those that hate KBC to the point I'd rather be working.
Actually, we liked KBC a lot; we sold because the MF's got too high compared to the price in points. But I wouldn't bring the entire family there; it's best for couples or solo travelers.

In regard to Princeville, did anyone mention time of year?
In the summer months, yes. But winter can be cold and rainy.
I've only had one disappointment in 20+ visits to Hawaii.
It was Princeville in November.

Building 4 Make sure we don't end up there as this is parking lot view?? Just making sure.

I did not anticipate hating KBC at all. We'd stayed there when it was the Kauai Surf and had fond memories. Part of it was the kitchen, it was a far bigger negative than we thought it would be. We didn't like the location either. Kim and I both agreed it was a wasted week.

One side of Hale 4 looks over the parking lot; the other side has nice garden views. So it's not the building that is bad, it's the unit within the building.

The big advantage of KBC is that an owner requesting "a high floor in the Kilohana Tower" is virtually guaranteed an excellent water view. With the possible exception of Shearwater, no other timeshare on Kauai can provide that.

I agree completely about the lack of a kitchen; that's why I don't recommend it for families.

It's was just Kim and I. We didn't think the views that great even in an OF high floor room, but first world problems I know. It was just weird hating it enough that I wished I'd skipped Kauai that week and came home early to go back to work. I've never had that before even on a previous trip to Maui where it rained all day every day for the entire week and was cold. We WILL not stay there again unless it's just like a day heading in or out as simply a place to sleep.

We had an oceanfront room at KBC in the Kilohana Tower and it was beautiful, just gorgeous views and we could hear the ocean! It was wonderfully relaxing. Our sons were young then, but my oldest rented a surfboard, and surfed with the locals. The rest of us rented a paddleboard and had a fun time. Ate at Duke’s and it was one of the best Thanksgivings ever…it was super quiet at the resort and the beach at that time. They also had the most delicious fresh pineapple turnovers for breakfast. Haven’t found them on return trips to the islands since.
After five nights there we headed to Waiohai, which was great…we were in the 400 building facing the gardens of the resort and had a wonderful view…the whole lovely grounds out to the ocean(even if it was just a sliver). I’d definitely stay at Waiohai with a family. We also have stayed at the Sheraton Poipu, but in the hotel and oceanfront with was fantastic…loved the beach there…when we were at Waiohai, my son would carry his board over to the beach at the Sheraton to surf. Nice to be right on that beach. But we have never stayed at the timeshares there. We liked snorkeling right outside of Waiohai, too.
Lots of fun to be had, no matter where. But yes, the two bedrooms are always great with a family! And I like the big ocean view to be had in Poipu. I was glad the first time we went we stayed in two different areas. Someday we will get up north…but I do like the sun of the south! And then, Lihue was nice to be close to the airport. When we have returned, it’s always to the Poipu area.
Have a great trip and let us know how it all worked out!

The Hale 4 IV villas that face the gardens are great. Some of them even have the tiniest peek at the ocean in the distance. But the other side faces the parking lot.

The Lagoons have beautiful accommodations inside the units, but they have the smallest swimming pool I have ever seen for a Marriott Location (versus Kauai Beach Club which has the largest.) We may have a short stop at the Beach Club or Lagoons if spending a night there before we leave makes more sense. It also has the shuttle to and from the airport which is close and free. But if you are going to split the week do Waiohai last as the beauty and resort of Waiohai far exceed the Lagoons or Beach Club experience, in my opinion. (Yes we have have stayed in all, and after our first visit watched for an owner sale at Waiohai. Best $ ever spent.)

We are headed to Kauai and we just couldn't decide, so we are going to just stay at all the Marriott and Vistana properties. The only exception is Waiohai which we couldn't book. However, by booking an owner update during our stay at Sheraton Kauai Resort Villas the tour is actually at Waiohai and they also provide a pool pass. I apparently just need to sign a waiver. So we will check out Waiohai for the day, but we won't get to see a room.

Any tips besides just requesting a certain building to have a better chance in getting what you want??

For those exchanging into Waiohai using Abound Points, I always suggest choosing IV as the better OV villas usually go to owners while most IV views are quite nice.

You can ask for Hales 1, 2, or 8 (but depending on dates may not get them) but all the Hales have nice IV villas. Just ask to not face the parking lot.
I am currently facing the parking lot 🙁

Call the resort about 2 weeks ahead and ask to speak to the room coordinator.
Tell then your top priority- quiet room, view, near the pool- whatever it is and let them do their best.
This was told to me at check in when I mentioned my prearrival email requests didn’t seem to come through recently.

Thank you. This is a big trip for us. 25 year anniversary- Our oldest moving across country for college in August- Our 2nd just graduating for HS. Just want to make sure this trip goes as well as possible. A good room will be a great start.

Again, thank you for everyone's advice.

Best advice- manage your expectations and those of the whole family so you are not disappointed. Everyone else is special too.
If you booked with redweek you will get the view the owner booked, but of course things vary within a catagory.
Book some special things that you can control- excursions, restaurants, luau- things that will be great if you view isn’t the best.
And get outside in the beauty of HI.
Congrats on the anniversaries and graduations!.

How did you make the reservation?

I don't know where you live, but Hawaii has very restrictive quarantine procedures for importing dogs and cats to prevent rabies. All dogs must be in quarantine for 30 days after passing a rabies test, which may take some time to complete.

In short, you should not plan to bring pets along for your vacation, regardless of any resort policy..
