Kaanapali cancelled us, understandably, but NOW WHAT?

I am just guessing, but if they are indeed cancelling within 60 days but they say their "points go well into next year" then the points must be LCUP into next year. I assumed "well into next year" meant still in CUP because once LCUP they are hard to spend. They can be spent, but i would not refer to those points myself as still "good" once in LCUP.

And you can use RCUP points in interval but you have a very brief time to do it since they go LCUP soon and can no longer be used in Interval. My original intent of posting was that if I was in that situation i would PRESS Hyatt to allow them to go into EEE, which would add a few years of life and time to get some reasonable in return for all of those points.

Adding to this, in 20 years of ownership, I have only been able to do something with LCUP points ONCE. The rest of the time, they simply expired.

I'm pretty good about using all my points. But I've had a couple cancellations and a couple times I waited too long on a trade request. Since LCUP only works with 16 properties it becomes very difficult to win the numbers game.

Hyatt Ka'anapali cancelled the reservation to begin September 9 and placed the points in RCUP. Initially booked using points from two contracts with different point expiration dates. One of the RCUP buckets is set to expire and turn into LCUP points Oct. 24. Does anyone know if I perform an interval exchange with a property using the points sitting in RCUP before they turn into LCUP on Oct.24? Perhaps even purchase the e-plus certificate which I could conceivably rebook for a later date if necessary.

I have no idea if they will or not. I would call as soon as Interval opens on Monday and find out. Just having your points there buys you another year. And you can do the insurance (which I have never done -- so I don't know how that works.) RCUP implies that you may put them into Interval (Restricted compared to Limited). I'm not a fan of the new website, but there's no reason why you can't logon to HVC and try to deposit your points into EEE. You might have an answer in seconds.

If this were a normal year, it would be well past the deadline -- four months from check-in.

It would be great if one of the affected Maui owners describes the process for the benefit of everyone who is going to face this over the coming weeks/months. I would also be sure to absolutely hammer the Interval Website looking for anything suitable. Availability is going to go nowhere but down as this unfolds.

If you're not allowed to visit West Maui, that should be sufficient for the insurance.

The fires haven't been put out 100% and there are still 850 people missing (which is an improvement from earlier estimates). The ground at Lahaina is literally toxic. The water in the area is unsafe.

There's no way any tourism is happening in a wide radius from ground zero for many, many weeks.

Make lemonade out of this. Dump your points into Interval and find anything on Kauai or the Big Island which lines up with your airline ticket. (You will very likely prefer Kauai). You already have the airfare for the bulk of the trip -- and airfare has been jacked through the roof thanks to the fire. Get a week through Interval and then make an easy, relatively inexpensive neighbor-island flight. People are canceling reservations left and right because they don't understand that Lahaina is only a small part of Maui which is a small part of Hawaii. They see "Hawaii burns to ash" and assume everything is gone.

My phone is STILL ringing at 3am because some of my friends and family don't understand how time zones work or care to look at a globe.

EDIT - If the Interval request doesn't happen (call the Go-hyatt number and explain "Any island except maui, any unit, these dates (give or take a day or two)." They can set those parameters much faster than you can), at least you still have Interval points for something else. I spend 90% of my points on Interval because you get so much more time for the same amount of points.
?? Sure ... plus $300 in fees or so you should. !

Kinda curious myself on where this is headed. I have a reservation in Mid November that I actually borrowed points from next year to make a few months ago when I saw they actually had availability. The friends that are going with me have asked numerous times if they should plan to change their plans, but so far I've only seen vague posts. I'm pretty flexible on the trip myself, but don't want to cancel the day before.
