I'm a big Jay Leno fan and have missed him. I hope I like his new show. Are you going to watch tonight?

Absolutely. I have had this date marked on my calendar and have the DVR set and ready to go.

I DVR'd Conan for a few nights and decided that was not my cup of tea. Then I DVR'd Letterman, but I really can't stand Paul Shafer, so this summer has been pretty bad.

Hope its back with Headlines & more

We are looking forward to it as the Conan version of the Tonight Show joined Letterman & Jimmy Fallon (how much longer can they keep that disaster on the air?) as being unwatchable. Only Jimmy Kimmel, when they decide to actually have it on, is the least bit funny.

If Jay carries a lot of the old Tonight show to his new hour it should be a big hit. I have DVR stuff for the 11:30 slot so it all works out.

I know that Headlines & Jaywalking will be on the new show, not sure about Jeopardy. He said there will be more comedy and less talk. No desk either.

Johnny Carson.

Shux, if some out-of-the-way cable channel started airing old Johnny Carson Tonight Show reruns with Ed & Doc & the band, I suspect they'd draw plenty of late-nite viewers -- at least among us old folks.

I used to enjoy Dave's show -- actually felt he was the rightful heir to take over the NBC Tonight Show after Carson, rather than Jay. But timeos2 is right, sorry to say -- poor old Dave has pretty much lost it & these days the Letterman show has become mostly unwatchable. So it goes.

You don't see acts like those on Leno or Letterman or Conan.

Jay on tonite

I will definitely be watching! The featured segment is Jay-Z w/Rihanna & Kanye West. That's right, Kanye West. As the promo says "Timely huh......"

I can't believe that even though I started this thread, I missed the first 10 minutes of the show. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but if it hasn't aired in your area yet, make sure you catch the 2 minute interview with Kanye West in the last 20 mins of the show. Jay reduced West to tears.

Thanks so much for reminding me!

Who's Kayne West ?

He's a singer. Last night he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Awards to say that Beyonce should have gotten it. He took the microphone right out of her hand.

I watched it and enjoyed it a lot.

He got hosed by NBC and I'm glad that he has a decent time slot (earlier) now.

I Watched It...

...and I have mixed feelings. It is the Jay that everyone knows but some of the stuff (car wash skit) and a few of the jokes fell pretty flat in my opinion.

Overall I would give the show a thumbs up, but it needs to liven up and freshen up the material and format a bit (in my view) to stay on the air.

The LA Times review this AM is....well....ouch!!!

I enjoyed it, but thought he seemed a bit uncomfortable. Nervous, maybe?

I laughed at the carwash thing, DH thought it was dumb - I just kept putting myself in the girls shoes. She handled herself well.

I think it could use use sprucing up, but I think he'll do fine. I'll bet ratings are way down tonight. Patrick Swayze's special is on ABC, up against Jay's show.

We watched it, though not our usual bill-of-fare. I thought the Kanye West apology/tears were genuine, after Jay asked him what his mother would have said. It struck me as a lengthened Tonite monologue without having to stay up for it. Good to hear what Seinfeld is up to. (We're so not-up-to-date on current entertainment)

I doubt I'll be a 'regular', and when I see it again, it'll be Tivo'd, so it can be seen without the half hour of commercials.

I've got it on Tivo to watch later tonight. From industry reports, Leno averaged a 12.1 household rating and 19 share, based on Nielsen's metered-market ratings in 56 markets.

By comparison, for the past 52 weeks NBC averaged a 5.2/9 in the time period, based on metered-market ratings. And Leno in his final season as host of the late-night The Tonight Show averaged a 4.0/10.

It will interesting to see what the audience numbers are 30 days from now.

This will be interesting to watch....

Originally Leno said, no desk, no guests, no musical groups (essentially no competition to Conan to avoid battles over guests)...

The only thing different between this show and his version of the Tonight Show seems to be no desk...

Even last night Conan had Cameron Diaz as a guest and tonight she's on Leno.

Will NBC step in and tighten up on Leno to drop the elements he originally promised not to use (Guests and Musical Acts)? Probably not... but will Conan take that as NBC not protecting the Tonight Show if they don't?

Is Leno effectively trying to sink Conan and his version of the Tonight Show so he can be the white knight who retakes the reins of the Tonight Show to save NBC?

All questions that will playout in the next 6-12 months....

Was it a good show? If you liked the old Leno Tonight Show, you had to like this as it was almost the same show... so it becomes which version of the Tonight show do you like... Leno's or Conan's?

I vote for Johnny's version.

Pete

Whole show seemed to me like a rip off of Top Gear....but thats just me.

I was disappointed in the show's format and only watched a little while. I wanted something funny and different, like his questions on the street the past few months. And this is going to be daily? No thank you.

We watched and agree that Jay seemed a little uncomfortable or nervous...we won't watch every night but will see it fairly regularly. I recall when he 1st took over for Johnny Carson he didn't do well, but then got the show the way he was comfortable doing it and it took off. So we'll give it a grace period.

I'm cheering for Leno to make it, because I'm a big fan. I had a chance to meet him in person once and found him to be quite real.

In a former life, I used to be backstage at different national TV talk shows accompanying noncelebrity guests. Leno's show was the nicest place I ever went. The person who hosted the non-celebrity talent was friendly and helpful and focused her attention on the guest and me, unlike most people in that job who are overloaded. We were sitting in the audience seats early in the day, just to see how the studio was layed out, while Jay was working on monologue jokes, and he came over to personally introduce himself - again a rare occurence among people in that role. After the show was over, all the guests were invited back on stage and a photographer captured shots. Jay took time to pose for several different photos with our group, and then his staff sent prints to us afterwards. A class act in every way.
