Just seen at my local Costco: a very small Acer mini notebook. 120 gig HD WinXP, Sorry I didn't get the model number or RAM. $349! If this had been available last year before I bought my ASUS EeePC, guess what I'd have now? Anybody want a EeePC? (this is not an ad)

The Acer Aspire 1 is a great lil' workhorse, for travel especially...I am typing on ours now- the XP version, we love it. It;s so small, lite and convenient-it's amazing....you'll need to add MS Office package or similiar after the free trial software....:)
 
I ordered one (the cool blue one!) a few days ago -- got tired of lugging my regular laptop when I travel. This one will fit in my purse! I'll let you know how I like it. I'm a little worried about the screen/text size.
 
I've had the acer aspire one for a couple weeks. I added a little logitech laptop mouse with a scroll/zoom wheel so i wouldn't have to use the pad. For those small things I want to get closer to, I zoom up - very convenient. Make sure you get the one with the larger battery. I have the blue one and it shows fingerprints but I really don't care - i wipe it off occasionally. I bought a larger purse with a padded pocket and flop my net book and mouse in it.

I also use dragon naturally speaking for dictating letters and notes. I wasn't sure this would work on the acer but it loaded fine and I spoke my menu plan and grocery list on the way to dinner with my husband.

Very cool, very convenient.

Added - the acer comes with microsoftworks

Are you sure it's 120G and not 160G? I found this report also.

That description says it's the 6-cell version, which is surprising. Did you notice if it was the 3 or 6-cell battery? Either way, it's worth it to try it out if you are in the market for a netbook.

If I didn't already order the Lenovo s10, I would have tried this out first to see if I liked it or not.

David, I was not at Costco looking at computers. I looked at the little Acer while a sales woman I know hovered and told me it has a 120 gig HD. I didn't look at the book or specsheet and have no idea how many cells in the battery. I did like the full 9" screen eliminating the need for side-to-side scrolling and my DW- a heavy word processor user, liked the keyboard- something she loathes about my ASUS.

Mine had an Acer, but it wasn't the Aspire One. I asked at the p/u counter, and they are in a container on their way to Maui.

Maybe they were already sold out of them at your Costco. Did you ask?

FWIW--My friend's nephew, a bright grad student, works part time at Costco. He told my friend that Acer products have the highest rate of return to their store within a year of purchase, than any other brand they sell. Upon his recommendation, she purchased a Lenova at another store. (Costco did not carry that brand or model).
 
Yeah -- I've heard that too, but this one is priced like a toy, not a laptop, so I'm not expecting much beyond portable internet surfing that can fit in my purse vs. lugging a briefcase.
 
The Acer tends to run hotter. I found the review for MSI wind to be better, followed by Asus.
 
Mine came in while I was gone on vacation last week. I just powered it on last night, and have been loading software on it today. I ran it on battery only during that time, while doing lots of downloads, installs, and with wifi active. It got 6.5 hours of battery life with all that going on! Wow.

I have relatively small hands for a guy, so the keyboard is fine for me. If you have large hands, you may have a problem. I also wish that more fit on the screen (it's only 1024x600), but that comes with the small size, I guess.

Other than that, I really like this thing so far. I do software development for a living. While I intend to only use it for travel & browsing, I have full development tools loaded. It's a bit slower than my desktop, but it's definitely a real computer capable of doing real work. And in such a small package for such a small price. Two thumbs up.
 
Have been using mine on business travels regularly for past month- I've have not had problems with running hot...has a built in fan....I really, really like the size and convenience factor, it's alittle slow, but no biggie...it's well worth the $350. The only thing I wish it had was a built in wi-fi, maybe future versions?...:)

I'm pretty sure the one I ordered has built in wi-fi ... it says:

Is this something different (I'm not too good with the techie terms)?
 
I mean that I wish it had built in Edge network or 3G like Blackberry and iPhones...the wireless capability that I have in my Acer Aspire 1 enables me to connect to a wireless modum. True techies on this site would know the correct terminologies.:)

A close friend is a refund cashier at Costco. He says he's returned four of these little Acers in the last two days, and they get them returned all the time. He says he'd never buy one, and advises people to be very careful with what they get.

I've owned the Asus Eeepc for more than six months, have traveled with it four times, and find it's excellent for what I do with it: Checking email and online bank accounts, reading TUG, and periodic web surfing and searching for more information about places of interest I'm in. I don't need it to replace my primary computer, so the amount of storage it has isn't really an issue. As long as it has a decent battery, and can find those WiFi hotspots when I'm traveling, everything else is relative.
