Is HGVC Legacy Elite Premier Status worth it? (? Being devalued or useless now with Max)

Is HGVC Legacy Elite Premier Status worth it?
Getting via Craig Lodge purchase route: 7, 1 BR Platinum or 5, 2-BR Platinum or 3 of each etc, to get Elite Premier (for free reservations, point saving etc)?
Is HGVC Legacy Elite Premier Being devalued or useless now with Max? (seeing many, generally useless post at FB group but asking Pros here).
Thoughts?
TY!

Depends. Would you travel enough? Can you afford purch & Maint Fees? Assume yes.

Would you primarily use HGVC instead of DEX? Leg Elite does zero in DEX.

We are Elite Plus but we also own a Dev purchase bHC unit so fewer Craig needed and we get AI reservations via the bHC so we do not need PE. We like Elite but hard to say if only reason to buy.

All good Qs.

Yes pls, can afford the purchase price & ongoing MFs and plan to travel enough (to burn all these pts).

The specific ask was prompted by lots of posts at FB group re HGVC somehow devaluing Legacy HGVC Elite (although most of these posts were not helpful).
I realize they can remove any benefits anytime but just curious of everyone's experiences thus far (& where the Gurus see this going in short term)

EP is a modest developer resale Craig purchase, 15-20k GBP upfront cost (substantial by resale stds, if one doesn't need the pts or can't afford the 5k per year MF) but modest for buying direct from HGV purchase stds (where poor 20 y/o recently posted of buying a Gold Vegas deed for 23k from developer, for a measly 5,440 annual points).

If one gets the currently posted HGVC Elite Premier (EP) benefits of no reserv fees, no pt saving fees, 30% OS discount etc (+ availability to DEX EU via CL route etc, nothing to do with EP but just addl value, via CL purchase), then worth the modest up front cost, for me.

I consider the initial purchase price as sunk cost (although at the modest purchase prices, likely should be easy to exit without a significant cap loss over time).

Thoughts re HGVC Elite/EP benefits (or any perceived or anticipated devaluation by current HGVC Elites, esp EPs)?

TY!

I moved the thread to the HGVC forum since the OPs questions are very specific to HGVC

I haven't seen any devaluation of Elite in the system or in a resort so far. I was in NYC in November and they mentioned my Elite and took that into account with a room request. I am still offered upgrades in the system when booking and get an open season elite discount.

@mountainboy, are you Legacy HGVC or HGVMax owner? If HGVMax, are you on the HGVC or the HVC/DRI side?

EP also has unlimited free guest certs....plus the rest shown in the table.

Elite Premier here via CL resale purchase. How does the HGVC Club Point cancellation policy work? I am a bit confused when reading the policies when booking units. I thought I saw something in the reservation about 61 days? Now I can't find it. Also when on line is there a place to actually see what points are used and then returned when booking and cancelling ... like a running tab?

Here is their verbiage:

*Please note that all reservations made with Bonus Points, including Home Resort and Club reservations, are non-changeable. Reservations using Club Points or Bonus Points at affiliated resorts, and Fiesta Americana resorts are non-changeable. Open Season Reservations may not be changed and the standard cancellation policy applies. Reservations booked with ClubPoints or Bonus Points and later canceled cannot be rebooked into the same resort for the same time period using Open Season rental rates.

31 or more days before arrival:
Cancellation of a reservation 31 days or more prior to check-in will result in forfeiture of the entire reservation fee, if any.

30 to 16 days before arrival:
30 to 16 days prior to the check-in date will result in forfeiture of 50% of the currency (ClubPoints, Bonus Points, Open Season rental rate, Open Season Credit) used to confirm the reservation and the entire reservation fee, if any.

15 days or less:
15 or fewer days prior to the check-in date will result in 100% forfeiture of the currency used (ClubPoints, Bonus Points, Open Season rental rate, Open Season Credit) to confirm the reservation and the entire reservation fee, if any.

Reservation Changes:
Reservation may be changed up to 61 days prior to arrival date without incurring additional transaction fees, provided travel occurs in the same calendar year. Changes made 60 days or less are not permitted and are treated as a cancellation.

Bonus Point reservations canceled after the expiration date of the Bonus Points result in 100% forfeiture of the applied Bonus Points.

Thanks @CalGalTraveler

We sure do love EP. So we just took advantage of the recent Elara promotion for our son. He has a conference to go to in LV in June. His friends are going as well. How many??? So we booked a 4 BR and a 3 BR knowing we can cancel one of them 31 days out. No extra fees. EP just makes things so much more flexible and enjoyable. And we were able to cancel another conflicting HGVC reservation to make time for our son ... that didn't cost us any fees either. Well worth the investment so far.

Elite Data Point:

Elite phone number call to make a change on a reservation. On hold 12 minutes Monday noon Pacific time.

Elite representative stated that when making a reservation the number of guests listed doesn't really matter as long as you do not exceed the maximum number of guests. The reason I called is I rebooked different dates and the system defaulted me to two guests when it was for 8 guests in a three bedroom Elara. The rep didn't change capacity on the reservation.

It doesn't matter how many people are on the reservation. We never change the default of 2. You can ask for the number of keys that you need at check in

I must be unlucky because I have never gotten a HGVC upgrade.

I do at certain locations but it also depends on your room type and then availability. If you get the premier unit then no upgrades but we almost always get upgrades at W57th and Elara, for example, since we don't get the premier units.

So, people like you @GT75 who always get the top units like OO OF, can't get upgrades...:)

The only downgrade we have heard of is when people are Legacy Elite then get switched to Max Centum.

I wouldn't put much stock in what you read on FB.

I have been contacted via two separate emails that my next two upcoming reservations have been upgraded. Loving EP.

Love HGVC & EP, so far!

Was upgraded few weeks ago at MarBrisa with EP; no emails though...

No upgrade at GPP (affiliate, not HGVC owned)...

Will see at Breck, PC, Hawaii (Waikoloa & MBV) etc soon..

There is no running tab. There is reservation history and would have to manually track each by looking at the reservations. I created spreadsheet to track my points then as I book or cancel I enter and track myself. The HGVC policy is as stated by you.

Yes, the rules state that upgrades are only for same sized rooms, such as a standard 1BR to a Plus or Premier 1BR. They are not for going from a 1BR to a 2BR, for example (although, some have reported it happening).

I have been upgraded 3-4 times, as I recall.

We recently visited HGVC Magnificent Mile Chicago. Flew in/out MDW. We were able to use the Lyft benefit ($250 max per year). Saved us about $100 this trip. EP

And our EP upgrade for our 1BR to 1 BR Premier was on the top floor corner unit 2602. We spoke to one of the HGV barkers in the lobby who was chatty ... we asked how many floors were HGVC. She said floors 21 to 26 and it was all built out. She said she has stayed plenty of times and the best rooms were the 02 corner rooms. Nice upgrade EP.
