iPhone 5s on its way!!!

It does nothing new.

Someone hasn't read anything about the rumors on this product, or else this wouldn't have been written. And...I don't think I'll comment any further on this until the product is actually released. Unlike others, I prefer to talk about facts not rumors. But if you're negative on this, I suggest you short AAPL.

I am an apple junkie, will be waiting to see what is unveiled!

I just upgraded the wife to 4s for $49 refurb, then I can sell her 4 for $130. I'm a trailing edge purchaser, we don't need to pay top dollar for incremental upgrades. I don't use a smart phone, prefer just a text slider and my iPad on free wifi.

without a bigger screen, this product sucks. It does nothing new. No upgrade for me.

Based on what has been reported thus far, which tends to cover it most of the time, this is another "Ho-Hum" release with no really new features. The fan boys will of course go crazy but for most it's a non-event. Certainly not in the realm of the new Motorola phones due this month or the S4 of earlier this year.

I read the link that is posted in the OP. If that is the product, it sucks because it doesn't have a bigger screen. Bigger means Samsung Galaxy 4S size. If they can't be competitive with that feature, the product sucks.

If you followed any of my posts, you would know that I love my iPhone and believe it is the best product ever created. In addition, you would know that my post is in direct response to the OP who claimed the iPad sucked because it only had one camera.

Regarding shorting AAPL. I am an investor. I took a bath on the stock late last year and early this year. I should have shorted it then. However, when the stock went below $400 and bounced up over $470 several times, I took the opportunity to average down my cost basis to the point that I am in the black on that stock now. I had 100 shares. When it went back over $500, I sold down to 30. If it goes below $475, I'll start buying it back again.

I'll wait and see how it is before making a decision. I like and use products from both companies, but not to the exclusion of one over the other.

I carry an iPhone 4S, and I own a Samsung Galaxy 7" tablet. Getting an iPhone 5S, which is so close to my current phone, or a Galaxy S4 (or S5, if I want to wait), which is also so close to my tablet (with obvious differences) doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I don't need or want one device that does everything. So I'll wait to see which side of things has the most appeal and practical use for me when I'm ready to upgrade.

My personal rant: I want a phone that is a good phone. I don't need to watch videos, play music, or type letters to Santa on my phone. I have other devices that do that just fine. I carry a phone because I work on-the-go, and I need to be reached by voice many times a day. My issue with the large-screen Android phones is they're approaching tablet size, and are too large to be conveniently used one-handed, or easily carried in a front pants pocket. My issue with upgrading above my current iPhone is that the 5S is too much like what I currently have, and a longer body on the iPhone doesn't add practical advantages to what I already use.

Don't get me wrong: I love technology. But I've been on the bleeding edge of technology enough times that I've developed a wait-and-see attitude toward most things lately. And the phone wars is just another face-off, to my way of thinking.

So we'll have to see how things develop. :ponder:

Long time ago Boca. Yes, I was a big critic of the very first iPad and one of my big criticisms is that it had NO (not one) cameras because social media was becoming really big. I never actually bought the original iPad, but I did buy the iPad 2 when it first came out and I now have a iPad 3. I skipped getting a iPad 4, but another event I'm hotly anticipating this year is for the iPad 5 and I'm sure I'll be getting one.

My personal rant: I want a phone that is a good phone.

I absolutely agree with you. I use my phone as a, well, phone. Admittedly, I also use it to intermittently check email and use other apps (news apps, Nest (!), Kindle, others). I like the size of my iPhone 5 - I like that it's also lighter than my older iPhone 4 or 4S.

I use my iPad for everything else while I'm out (and sometimes even when home). I don't want a larger phone - that would seriously reduce the phone's advantage to me as a phone...the last thing I want is a bulky device just to make calls. It would simply SUCK if Apple were to release a larger phone. :D

I also like the smaller size of the iPhone.... text, check emails, use internet and many apps.

don't wish to carry around the larger, heavier smart phone for a reason.

I do like my 70" TV though, but I don't carry it around. Everybody has his/her preferences.

Remember, what is considered big to some is considered just right to others. Hand size plays a large role in this. :)

As the S4 showed a larger screen & better battery life does not have to mean a bulky or heavier phone. And iPhone is notorious for mediocre phone service.

iPhone touch screen puts phone into mute!

I must admit that I hate several things about the iPhone 4S as a phone and probably won't buy another one.

The reason is, compared to my old BlackBerry the sound is not nearly as good as BB was...and because of the touch screen on the 4S I couldn't cradle the phone on my neck to keep both hands free without it putting the phone into MUTE when my cheek touched it.

We upgrade our iPhones every time we're eligible for an upgrade (or wait a few months if a new version is coming out soon). I'm eligible now, but waiting. Our old iPhones (with no phone service) get passed down to the kids essentially as iPod Touches. The 3 year old is ready to get his own, and the 7 and 10 year old are looking forward to newer ones.

I only use my iPhone as a phone. And to check email. And to browse the web. And as a calendar. And a rolodex. And a camera. And a photo album. And basic photo editing. And to check the weather. And as a GPS. And to find cheap gas. And for subway maps. And to check stock prices, access my bank, my credit cards and my investment accounts. And to find good restaurants and restaurant deals. And to check movie times, find Redbox locations, listen to music, stream Netflix and Amazon Prime video. And to listen to podcasts. And to read books and the Bible. And to compare prices when I'm shopping in a store. And to shop at eBay and Amazon. And to review sales at Sams and Costco. And to organize our travel. And digital boarding passes. And flight tracking. And for travel guides. And to search for flights. And to look things up on Wikipedia. And as a dictionary. And sometimes to check sports scores. And for a Spanish/English dictionary. And to read Drudge, the WSJ and USA Today. And to watch movies and TV shows. And as a calculator. And to take notes. And as an alarm clock, world clock, and timer. And as a flashlight. And as a Roku remote when we misplace ours. And to log into various PCs of ours. And for dozens of games for me and the kids. And to check Disney wait times and details. And as a credit card terminal. And to view incoming faxes from eFax. And to look up Per Diem rates. And to monitor newsletter performance. And to view incoming orders. And to convert web pages to PDF files. And to make "fan" sounds when we travel without our fan. And to identify songs that I like.

If I lose my iPhone or the battery dies, I'm lost without it. There's not much I don't do on it.

Jeez, Michael. Too bad you can't figure out what to do with your phone. LOL! :hysterical:

I think I missed some things. I forgot about Facebook, texting, twitter, skype, Magic Jack, managing Facebook Pages, reading/posting on TUG, shopping lists, and to do lists.

Here we go again. Anything else the iPhone is purported to do badly? Go on, you've got the floor. We're all interested in your objective opinion.

Ok, now you're just rubbing it in. ;) I'd never let my phone out of my sight if I was that connected to the world. Amazing list!

The interesting thing is all of that could also be done on the great Palm products that predated the iPhone by almost 5 years! Even Steve Jobs admitted that much of the iPhone was "borrowed" from Palm. Yet now they complain when Samsung "borrows" from them. Far less than they did. None of them have yet equalled the great integration of contacts / calendar / dialer that Palm had from day 1. Hopefully it will get done again someday.

It seldom leaves my hand or pocket. My wife lets the kids play with hers (and they're always messing things up). I don't.

Really? Credit card processing? Streaming Netflix? Reading TUG? Streaming music?

Don't forget slow processors, passive displays, and limited memory.

Rumors...are exactly that. All I know is that I have much better and consistent call quality with my iPhone 5 than I did with past versions, though the 4S was also quite good. At what point do you stop repeating old news and find new facts to support your antagonism against Windows and Mac?
