Does anyone have experience with using Intervals E-plus on an exchange using HRC points? I have used E-plus with my Marriott weeks and if I confirm a re-trade within 60-day of arrival there is no additional fees for a larger sized unit. Outside of 60-days the standard II upgrade fees apply.

The question is, if I trade 430 HRC points for a peak season studio and within 60-days of arrival a 1 bedroom becomes available do I need to "pay" additional points? I called Hyatt's interval desk and received 2 different answer. if the second person is correct and additional points are required what is the value of the e-trade plus?

Conversely if I book a peak season 1 bedroom (870 HRC points) and later need to change it to a mud-season 1 bedroom (540 HRC points), do I get a refund on points? If they actually do charge unit upgrade fees (i'm not sure they do) then unit downgrade should also apply, right?

Thoughts?

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
II plus never gives you back points if you down grade. They do charge you the additional points if the retrade would require more points if made at that time. The value would be that you don't have to pay another exchange fee. With points type ownership you don't get free upgrades, you still have to pay any difference.
If you do down grade and then later upgrade back up to the original size/season you wouldn't have to pay the extra points so although it doesn't refund those points it kind of holds those points until the expiration of the eplus window in case you make another exchange that could use those points.

I had exchanged using 1,300 points and purchased ePlus. I was not sure if an upgrade within 60 days would require additional points, so I made an experiment:

So yes, the do charge for an upgrade, even within 60 days. No refund for a downgrade though.

if the second person is correct and additional points are required what is the value of the e-trade plus?

There are two benefits:

1. Ability to exchange three more times without paying another exchange fee.

2. Extending your expiring Hyatt points. For example, if you have EEE points expiring in June 2019, but you cannot use them for anything useful, then just before expiration make an exchange for as far out in the future as possible, for example for June 2021. Then purchase ePlus. Your ePlus expiration date will be one year after the first exchange, in this case June 2022. You just saved your expiring points for three more years. You can use ePlus to change your placeholder exchange into something useful until June 2022, without additional fees.
