How do the Marriott occupy usage options work?

Hello! I have a Marriott gold week I haven’t yet gotten a date to occupy for 2026. When booking on the Marriott Vacation Club site, I always just use the occupy week option. However, I see there are other options, which I have never considered. How do the II owner deposit and II Marriotts deposit work? I want to use my week for trading and was going to put it into II anyway. Is it better to do it through Marriott? Also, how does the split week into shorter stays work? Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

Exchange - Owner Deposit works very much like Occupy. You make a reservation for a specific checkin day and then you take the reservation number and checkin date to II and deposit your week. I suspect that this works a little differenlty behind the scenes where Marriott uses a different reservation number range to assign to these confirmations. I don't know what would really happen if you tried to occupy the week. Probably nothing, but we use this option to deposit every year when we make a 12-month reservation.
Exchange - Marriott Deposit is where you don't pick a week to deposit. You don't make a reservation. You leave it up to Marriott and a unit just shows up in your II account. Don't use this option if reserving a high demand week is best for you.
Split Week - There is some information in the Weeks FAQ Sticky about this.

We always choose owner Occupy, if only out of paranoia that MVC just might have an incentive to deposit a different week under option 2. I say paranoia because you could probably see the different week in your II history.

A more practical reason is we sometimes will want to use one side or both (we always lockoff) at our home resort. Never had an issue depositing an owner Occupy week in II.

Okay, thank you both so much. But how then is owner deposit different than just doing the regular owner occupy and then placing it in interval myself? Do you pay the same exchange fees when you find a new Marriott week on interval to exchange into?

Fundamentally, for the owner, there is no difference in the process for Occupy vs. Owner Deposit. They work the same and pay the same exchange fees (if applicable).

Same here, see no advantage to any of the other methods. And no trying to track down with Marriott why they haven't deposited yet etc..

The only option where Marriott actually makes the deposit is "Marriott Deposit". That option is not recommended because they pick the week to deposit. That is a big disadvantage.

If you select "Owner Deposit" it is on you, the owner, to make the deposit. No need to track anything down with Marriott in any way.

I always select Owner- Occupy even when I have every intention of depositing the week. I figure it doesn't hurt to just pick that one so that's what I have always done.

Same here but having the owner to deposit option was a bit confusing so I did explore more a few months ago. I was concerned it might cause issues. I can't find the email to double check but I came away convinced there was no downside to the "owner to deposit" option and that it was internally easier for them but ultimately didn't make any difference.

I did the owner occupy as usual. I still don’t fully understand it all, but I thank you all for your input.

I did owner occupy and then deposited it in Interval. This worked find. The Marriott reservation number was changed after it was deposited.
