I'm a DP owner looking to do some "wintering" down there next year. I'm just Owner status. I just went online and didn't see much availability for January 2021 for any of the resorts. Are they fully booked 13 months out? I can see some availability towards the end of January. Harbour Club, Heritage Club, and Sunset Pointe show nothing at all for January 7-day availability, and Grande Ocean has nothing until the 29th.

They don't release all of the inventory at 13 months. Once you get inside the 12 month window, there should be plenty to book. Remember, as just an Owner, you pay a 20% point premium to book at 13 months. For January/February in HHI, I would definitely wait until the 12 month window opens.

Half of the inventory is released at 13 months, and the other half should be released at 12 months. I am Chairman and I noticed that inventory in HH is disappearing more quickly this year than last. It also appears that Surfwatch releases very limited 2BR villas at 13 months, and Barony appears to only have Garden View available at that time. I suggest keep checking and hopefully you will find something at 12 months.

I think the program docs specify "up to half" or something like that. So, I don't think thane are required to release exactly half at 13 months. I believe they do have some discretion.

Those weeks aren't worth much in terms of Destination Points. I assume that most people didn't convert and what is showing up are weeks that Marriott bought back. I'm seeing Barony, Monarch, Surfwatch, and Harbour Point in Interval International.

That's a darn good point. I do sometimes wonder, though, how much the average owner who lives their life outside of the "TUG Bubble" really analyzes whether converting an off season week to points is actually a good deal or not?

They have to because they begin to say they don’t get a week of vacation when they elect points.

Another Hilton Head Island winter question: for the resorts with on-site restaurants (so the ocean-oriented ones) are they open all-year or is it "call the resort and ask" for each one?

If you're speaking of the Marriott resorts on Hilton Head (specifically timeshare resorts, of which there are 8),
none of them have on-site restaurants.
Barony has a bar & grill which is outside, Grande Ocean also has an outdoor grill, both open seasonally, but there are no restaurants.
The Marriott Hilton Head Resort & Spa (a hotel) does have a restaurant, open year round.

I was thinking of the bar and grill type places at the MVC resorts. Thanks for the info!

Pretty much just outside the Barony, the Port Royal Golf and Tennis Club has a bar and sit down restaurant. The Westin, next door to the Barony, has a number of places to eat.

Happy Holidays to all. I am thinking of booking a January/February week in Hilton Head as a quick get-away with my friends (we live in SC). Lots of Marriotts available. I am not familiar with Hilton Head, which one would you recommend? We would prefer to be on or near the beach.

Thanks for your help.

You're a member of TUG...did you check all the reviews? I've been to so many Marriotts on HHI I really don't have a fave. Have fun!

Grande Ocean has a bar area out near the ocean/North pool, in addition to the grill but separate, only a 30-second walk.
(The grill is between two huge pools.)
SurfWatch also has an outdoor pool bar and grill area with tables near the ocean, a longer walk from the buildings.
So, only the "Big Three" resorts have that....GO, Barony, & SurfWatch
