Happy Holidays to all. I am thinking of booking a January/February week in Hilton Head as a quick get-away with my friends (we live in SC). Lots of Marriotts available. I am not familiar with Hilton Head, which one would you recommend? We would prefer to be on or near the beach.

Thanks for your help.

Using DP I'd do anything I could get OF in the order of GO, Barony then Surfwatch. For OS I'd use the same order. For Garden View I'd put Barony Last. For an exchange I'd change the order to GO, SW then Barony because of the possibility of getting GV. But any of them on the island should be fine.

It is older and smaller but I love the location of the Marriott Monarch.

Also check Harbour Point because although not on the ocean, still very nice and it's super low points needed.

You may want to look at Harbor Club during this time of year. You can walk to restaurants and shops. You can drive to the Beach Club by Monarch if you want to go on the beach. The units are large and the entire building has around 40 units. Very nice place. My choices in this order for winter: GO, Monarch, Harbor Club, Heritage Club, Shelter Cove, Barony, Surfwatch. Order is only because laying out on the beach is not the top priority.....more so location to things to do and restaurants.

You havd gotten some great advice here. The only other things you may wish to consider is Heritage, but only if golf is on your agenda. A week at heritage includes 10 rounds of golf (no cart fees). This represents great value. If golf is not of interest, I would second the advice above and stay on the beach.

Monarch is nice but second bedroom is very small with 2 single beds. Harbor Pointe has units that are very small but Sunset Point at the same location has all normal size units
and is much newer.

We prefer the location of Barony as it is mid-island and you can avoid the higher traffic more populated (touristy) areas further south and around Coligny Square. Although, in January/February that won't be such an issue.

I agree that Barony's location is sometimes not given enough appreciation. While it is farther away from Sea Pines and Coligny, it is the most convenient MVC to the good restaurants in the Main Street area near Hilton Head Plantation and the seafood spots on Skull Creek and Marshland Road. It is also an easy drive to the restaurants mid-island around the Shelter Cove, Palmetto Dunes, and Wexford areas. While Grande Ocean is, in my opinion, the best overall MVC on the island, GO and the Sea Pines resorts are quite a distance from the restaurants in the Main Street and Skull Creek areas.

Surf Watch has a similar location advantage as Barony, but my only knock on it is there is no traffic signal at its access point to US278, so making a left turn onto 278 looks like it would be really tough there. Never stayed there, so don't have direct experience, but I can't imagine that could be an easy left turn.

I hope I don't have the street names wrong, but from SurfWatch, just take Castnet Drive a short way south along Chaplin Community Park to Singleton Beach Rd, and turn right to US 278. There is a traffic light there.

Ah...good point. I didn't think about there being a back way to get to a signaled intersection.

There isn't a lot of traffic in January and February. February is a great time to go. This thread is making me want to go down there for a long weekend.

Compared to high season most certainly much less, but we've been to HHI several times in the last 60 days managing the renovation of a condo we bought in Palmetto Dunes, and I have been very surprised at how much traffic there still is in off season.

What are same of the timeshare resorts in Palmetto Dunes?. The area looks so relaxing from the highways entrance with their bike trails Along US 278 IMO.

No timeshares in Palmetto Dunes that I am aware of. I think there may be a couple of condo complexes that may have sold some units as quarter-shares, but no true timeshares like we discuss here on TUG. PD has the Marriott hotel, the Omni hotel, Disney's beach clubhouse, condos/villas, and single family homes.

I think those may be some of the quarter shares that people have been able to put into II or RCI. We researched all the Palmetto Dunes properties extensively prior to buying our condo and I don’t think there are any properties that are 100% timeshare in Palmetto Dunes.

Not sure about quarter share vs traditional. The ones I know of (but don't know much) are Ocean Cove Club and Villages at PD unless you include the Shelter Cove Area which I believe is part of PD as well. If you include that area you have the 2 Marriott, DVC plus at least one quarter share.

I’ve seen rentals at both Ocean Cove and Villages from agencies that rent whole ownership units, so my suspicion is these are mixed properties with some timeshares or quarter shares mixed in with whole ownership units.

I believe that's correct as it is for many of the timeshares on the island that are not Marriott. There are also a few fractionals, at least one at Shelter cove (part of PD) and 1 in Port Royal.

@JIMinNC I also like the beach at Barony because you can walk north toward the "heel" where the water is shallow extending far out into the sound. And if you walk south you can experience the creek crossing.

I'm a DP owner looking to do some "wintering" down there next year. I'm just Owner status. I just went online and didn't see much availability for January 2021 for any of the resorts. Are they fully booked 13 months out? I can see some availability towards the end of January. Harbour Club, Heritage Club, and Sunset Pointe show nothing at all for January 7-day availability, and Grande Ocean has nothing until the 29th.
