...It is almost like the IT people come up with something new that can be done, and then they create a need or desire for it so they can sell it.

I suspect that they also build in bugs, so they'll be called upon to come up with fixes.
Since most bugs in the current system were fixed, they found something else to do.

Certainly highly likely. Usually the way software development happens.

Cheers.

It said “More flexibility and conveniences”. They just might be adding things not changing the whole site.

HGVC just did an "upgrade" a few months ago and making reservations was screwed up for a few weeks while they worked out the bugs.
When they make these changes they either don't test the system or because they are not members trying to make, change, and cancel reservations they don't test that portion of the system. They see that they can view the things they changed but not what effects it had on the essential functions of a reservation system!

No, that is not how software development happens. Anyone who has any experience in this industry would be able to confirm this.

I assumed that the comment was a joke because it couldn't be serious, which is why I "agreed." :)

As someone who's been managing software development for high precision capital equipment for about 25 years, and doing it myself for a good bit of this time I knew it was not serious.

Cheers.

I never underestimate what people will believe. Just look at easyrider's posts on the coronavirus thread.

If the comment was a joke or if software developers place bugs so they can then be paid extra to fix them if true is insignificant from my perspective. I have programmed computers in the past, (which is now called software development or app development). I have also been the recipient of customized software development to assist me in managing a major department at a University. I would never have accepted what HGVC management has accepted from those that have developed the soft for the HGVC website. They either would have been fired if they were in house or not paid if they were a contractor due to not producing work that was acceptable.

I will say that it seems the website *now* is mostly functional. I'm not sure where the walking reservation issue stands
OR
the Changing reservation issue (where you're say changing a 5-night to a 5-night with same points, just different time or resort and the system used to error out because it would try to deduct the NEW 5-night stay first and then "refund" the existing 5-night and if you didn't have the spare points, it would fail).

As far as enhancements go, I wish the stupid thing would actually email the CORRECT confirmation if you add a Guest Cert after the fact. As of now, it either doesn't email anything at all, or you "print" the new info and it still has your name on it. I always have to call in and request the "real" copy every time. If you get the Guest Cert whilst booking, then all is fine.

Some insights on the new reservation functionality:

Member Services called me about another issue (issues accessing the website from abroad due to anti-hacking prevention), and I asked about the changes. She said that it was "a few thousand" people asked to participate, so a reasonable sample.

Apparently, they're looking to introduce a "Points + Cash" booking option. As long as it doesn't impact the current functionality (and recent performance is very mixed on this), then this is a net positive.

Cheers.

I remember participating in a hgvc survey last year mentioning "renting" points from hgvc when you don't have enough to complete a reservation. Similar to what Wyndham has....

This is "interesting", but I will await my judgment until I see the change. I suspect that the cash requirements will be similar to the hotel/airline programs (high cost). But to me, if someone isn't turning in ("selling") some points then you aren't "renting" points.

That is an interesting perspective on the "renting of points". I would have assumed that HGVC has so many unsold properties that they would rent the points that they have so no one would need to "turn in (sell) points.

I know that other people have a greater tolerance for bugs in software developing and software changes than I do. However, from what I understand the Iowa election results are still not counted do to new software. Also, how will we ever have reliable self driving cars without reliable software? When someone dies due to a computer bug saying Opps may not be a good enough explanation to the family!

:) Amusing comparisons! Especially for something that hasn't even happened yet. Always good to get some light-hearted comedy posts.

Cheers.

I would love a "Points + Cash" booking option. BUT not if they value the points at the ClubPartner Perks rate ($0.10/pt) and try to charge hotel rack rate prices.
