Looks to me as if this is looking northward from somewhere close to La Jolla.

Close enough - it's the Gliderport at Torrey Pines. There's a place to grab sandwiches - The Cliff Hanger Cafe - with a great view. We were there today. It was pretty nice!

You got it! It was taken at Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland. It was a beautiful morning last Saturday. The ducks and geese were in fine feather. With the shallow water in this area and the long summer days, the plants in the lake are lush and grow to the water surface, almost like a mini-forest at the water surface. So the ducks and geese don't bother with the shoreline grass; herds of them go in the water and gorge themselves on the lake plants where they don't have to dive to feed; they just bob their heads below the surface and eat. You could see places where a flock of feeding had worked their way across a stand of the weeds, and eaten a "trough" through the top of the growth.

I hadn't noticed the Space Needle in the picture until you mentioned it! I thought the bridge on the left side of the photo would be the big tell.

Yes. This is from the Salton Sea State Recreation Area. Taken last September

The picture makes it look kind of pretty. It wasn't. It was hot, humid, and muggy.

My SIL fondly remembers going to the Salton Sea for waterskiing, boating, and other activities in the summer when he was in his teens and early 20s, living in LA. It's nothing like that any more. What looks like a nice sandy shore line in the picture is pretty gross. When we were about 50 yards from the water's edge, what looked like sand was actually a dried crust on top of mud and muck. The crust would break and you would sink into the mud. The closer you got to the water, the deeper the mud and muck.

There were only three cars in a huge parking lot (probably built in the day when it was viable water recreation area), so hardly anybody was there. As we were leaving our car when we arrived, we saw someone coming back to the parking lot, who cautioned us about trying to get to the water. He had mud caked halfway up his calf; he said he turned back before he could get to the water because he would have gotten stuck if he tried to go further.

There was a ranger at the park entrance who, as far as I could tell, had nothing to do except sit in the ranger shack by herself all day, and occasionally make a round of the park just to check things out. I suppose that occasionally the ranger might have to rescue someone from the mud. I'm pretty sure that in the pecking order of park ranger jobs in the CA State Park System, being the ranger at Salton Sea is probably near the bottom of the list.

When you post a pic, after it uploads click on the image to select it. When that happens, you should see some handles on the corners of the pic - the snip below illustrates, with the handles flagged in green. You can then drag the handle to resize the image. This works both when you make the original post and also if you edit the post.

Also, in your post, I suggest that you insert a return between your text and the image so that the browser won't try to put your text and the image on the same line.
