Resurrecting this thread to ask if anyone has experience with granite with a leather finish. Although my wife isn't completely sold, I really like the look. Just wondering if there are any negatives or other considerations to the leather finish?

I had a counter top contractor talk me out of a textured finish for my kitchen counter tops. He pointed out that if you write on paper with the textured finish how erratic your hand writing will be. Also texture will be a little more labor intensive to clean.

I have a small granite top in bathroom and it waterspots all the time, but not too noticeable. We chose quartz composite for our kitchen 10+ years ago, and it still looks good, no special texturing to it. We paid extra, per linear inch! for a slightly rounded edge. We priced around, the box stores, independent kitchen specialists etc, and actually found Ikea to be the most competitive for quartz and Corian.

Do you use Bar Keeper's Friend (a gentle comet-like cleanser) on your SS sink? If not, then give it a try. I have a 28 yo ss utility sink in my laundry room. It looked terrible. I used the bar keepers friend and it looks almost new.

We also have oak cabinets. The grain was nice and tight so about two years ago we had them lacquered. We went with a gray color, but I have seen others do white and they look great. I was really nervous, but I love the change. It made our kitchen look brand new.

I use Bar Keeper's Friend on my sink, and it does look better when done. That keeps me from ripping the sink out of the hole myself!

That is a great idea for the cabinets. I would love a creamy white color, not really white because white would look funny. Our son's new house has beautiful cabinets, and they are a nice color:

Gorgeous kitchen. I have cream colored cabinets as well.

I use soft scrub on my sink. You can really scrub a stainless steel sink. The harder the better. Scratches will come right out of it. Use a the scrubbie side of a sponge if you have to.
