Hello—

I’ve read over what I could find in the forums about this TS but it’s not too much info.

If this is purchased below a certain price and not through their broker, I’m told you don’t get certain privileges — including the ability to exchange for another FS property.

Is this also referring to not being allowed as part of II?

Were primarily “buying” this for our family’s use but also would like some flexibility in the years we opt to not use it.
If any Aviara owners can share any owner insights, it would be much appreciated 😊

I recently bought Aviara resale for free and not thru their broker. I asked if I could trade it thru II and was told yes but I have not attempted to do that yet.

Thank you. I’m hoping it has some trading value for the times we want to go elsewhere. Have you tried any direct exchanges with TUG members?

@HulaGal88 I have never done any direct exchanges with TUGgers so no experience to report there. Was unable to travel for our first week to Aviara this March and rented it easily on Redweek.

Oh that’s great to hear! Do you have a 1 or 2 bdrm?

We have owned a 2 bdrm lockoff at FSA for 25 years (yes, bought from developer before we knew...). We have used for 2 weeks with II for all but one of those 25 years and it trades very well - we mostly use it almost exclusively for Hawaii. Did one direct trade which worked very well.

That’s fantastic to hear! Which properties/islands have you chosen in trade?

Do you own platinum or gold?

We own one gold week (that splits for 2 weeks), and over the years we have traded into all of the four main islands - Oahu, Maui, Hawaii and Kauai. All of them Marriotts or Westins. I only know this from a legacy/developer week, so YMMV as resale. [It is fine with us that we did not buy platinum; we don't like to travel in the summer with the school schedule. Gold covers a lot of the holidays.]

I am concerned about the resale factor. Not sure whom to contact regarding interval trade qualification.

I do know we are not eligible to trade internationally with Four Seasons. But am hoping to find a Troon owner who might want to do a direct exchange sometime.

I am not sure either, although plenty of people on TUG own resale weeks that they seem to trade in II. I suspect that once it gets into II it would trade like anything else. Maybe someone who owns FSRC resale will chime in.

I recently looked in depth at purchasing an Aviara Gold Week, so I offer a few things I learned.

1) There are a lot of really low resale prices, often zero* or less on Redweek or even through the authorized broker. *(Less than zero because some sellers are willing to pay closing costs and allow 2024 usage of unit without reimbursement of $3007 annual maintenance fee). However, the low resale prices could be a double edged sword when you want to resell your unit.

2) It's necessary to pay at least $2500 through the authorized broker if you want to have the Premium Four Season privileges. Those are basically: internal exchange with Troon; joining an annual lottery to use some very high end other Four Season timeshares; or credit (not 100%) of your maintenance fees against a stay at Four Seasons hotels.

3) Everything I have heard and learned, as noted above, is that you can still trade your unit through II even if you do not go through the authorized broker and spend $2500.

4) Other Tuggers have commented that Aviara does not have as much trading power as one would expect for such a luxurious highly rated resort. The reason is that owners at Marriott and other larger timeshare groups have preference over an outsider like Four Seasons.

5) I found a few TUG conversations about Four Seasons and Aviara. I will post them for your convenience.

Yes, this group is so helpful! That is what I’m hoping also.

That’s also a great strategy to break up the 2 bedrooms for 2 weeks!

Also, meant *internally, not internationally.

Thank you! We’ve also weighed the pros and cons. And it is surprising to hear about lower trading power.

But we have decided to follow through with the purchase because we have younger kids so we would be able to use the unit during some holiday session weeks.

So I guess we’d be kicking the can down the road to deal with resale issues then. This is probably how it all evens out — unless we absolutely cannot sell it when the time comes.

One more, which includes my reference to my recent discussions with the authorized broker.

One other great benefit of owning at Aviara: they allow owners, but not exchangers, to bring pets.

Also, the agent told me that it's not that easy to book the Holiday weeks, even though they're included in Gold floating season. The reason is that owners who hold more than one Aviara week can book 13 months in advance (and claim 100% of the holiday reservations).

I'm especially looking forward to using the Surf Concierge!

Thank you. I’m off to google about Elite Alliance. I have a ThirdHome account but the keys are a bit confusing about what my exchange would actually be worth. And it’s a hefty exchange fee.

132 units x 52… so nearly 7,000 weeks to fill?

Oh wow, this sounds awesome!

My point was that HOLIDAY weeks may be tough to get eg thanksgiving and Xmas. So more like 132 x 2.
For sure! I was just mathing out loud. It’s a lot of owners vying for very few spots.

Are you referring to Christmas and NYD weeks?
Or Christmas and Thanksgiving? I’m not sure what to expect. I just know we need time when school is out🙂

I have booked either TG week, or the week before and/or after in the past, but have just used it to deposit in II. And although I have been booking II for Hawaii for 25 years, it has gotten harder recently for certain times of year. I think a combination of more people getting into TS (including what seems to be an increasing number of people running rental businesses), more resale availability of many resorts (assume boomers and others aging out) and people with a surplus of time/points leftover from the pandemic. But I still have never not gotten Hawaii trades.
