I would plan to eat an early lunch at a restaurant in Wailuku-- there are a few great spots to consider.

Or, if you are up for a lovely drive and meal, head to:
Hali’imaile General Store
900 Hali’imaile Road
Makawao, Hawaii 96768

Before you head for your stay in Napili.
On the way in we go to Tin Roof In Kahului.

If you're adventuresome take the "Road to Hana" for lunch.

Personally I'd still be tempted to try and get my shopping done the day of arrival. Why not drop your groceries off with the bell desk at the Hyatt and ask them to put it all in cold storage until the next day? I agree with DeniseM that Dukes would be my next stop 🌴
I'm afraid I would be tempted too:LOL:. Thank you for your comment and suggestion. I never stayed in Hyatt so don't even know what to expect from them.

Another nice place to stop for a bit and have lunch is the Maui Tropical Plantation. Cafe O Lei is there. We have had lunch there several times and it is very nice. Pretty safe place to leave your car with luggage in it.
I just checked it is only 5.8 ml from airport - very close... we had lunch there before and it is beautiful place. Thank you. I forgot about that place:)

I watched YouTube video on where to eat on Maui and Tin Roof was one of them!
From what I understand Tin Roof is really a take out place, no tables there.

Same chef that owns Tin Roof also has a sit-down restaurant in Wailuku called Tiffany's that I do like. Asian-fusion food similar to Tin Roof. Still, if you're coming in at 9:30 it's a little early for lunch as that's very close to the airport (they open at 11).

A nice place to chill is Kapalua Plantation Golf course. There are a few restaurants and outdoor seating is available. The walkways are really nice. There is a driving range. This is probably the best golf course in Hawaii. The views are pretty good. They have planted Cook Island Pines around the golf course. For us, I'm not a shopper so this type of thing is my type of thing.

Sure is, I recall they put the counter at the door. Good food though.

I have always thought to come one day early and drop my bags somewhere then take a small bag to Hana and spend the night.

That’s a great suggestion. We have been to Maui many times but only visited MTP for the first time on our local friends advice during our last trip. Nice grounds. Lunch was delicious and priced reasonably. We also got apple bananas, local mangoes, papayas and Maui Gold pineapples from the store. Again, reasonably priced.

We love Tin Roof. Their poke, garlic shrimp and garlic noodles are so good. The mochiko chicken was nicely sauced but I feel that the chicken meat itself could Use some seasoning. DH liked it though. Next time, we want to check out its sister restaurant Tiffany’s. I heard good things about it as well.

I agree that’s an excellent place to stop for lunch to kill time at a beautiful spot that you might not otherwise see. I went When it was still Mill House but would expect cafe o lei to be good.

Drive up to Makawao, have lunch at Polli’s then wander around town😎

Drive to Paia, lunch at fish place or Charlie’s, then go along coast road to Hookipa beach to see surfers and wind surfers.

If you go to Paia, Mana Foods is a large organic foods store. You might fine some interesting provisions for your trip.
