My husband and I staying in Napili area for one night and then 7 nights in Kaanapali. What should we do before checking in at 3 pm.. our fight lands 9:30 am. Picking up a car won't take more than 30 min.

First, you could go shopping for essentials. If you are staying at a timeshare, you could use their pool, exercise facility and perhaps get a lunch. Often, a timeshare will have a complimentary guest suite to relax, shower, prepare a meal and with a fridge for your food.

It's a 45 min. drive to Ka'anapali. Check-in at your resort and check your bags with the bell captain. If you are so inclined, take your bathing suit, cover up and other pool needs in your carry on, so they will be available. Have lunch at the pool bar, or a nearby restaurant, and by this time it will be 1:00 and you can hang out at the pool in the shade until your room is ready. I would not buy groceries until you check in for 7 nights.

Where are you staying in Napili and Kaanapali? What types of places (room size, refig/freezer(?

I would plan to eat an early lunch at a restaurant in Wailuku-- there are a few great spots to consider.

Or, if you are up for a lovely drive and meal, head to:
Hali’imaile General Store
900 Hali’imaile Road
Makawao, Hawaii 96768

Before you head for your stay in Napili.

I'd take a nap, either in the lobby or the car.

We would likely head out to Kapalua or Napilli for lunch and maybe go for a walk along the coastal trails. I'm not sure how the fire affected Flemings Park regarding the homeless but that use to be a nice place to hang out under a tree.

Have breakfast/lunch at the Gazebo in Napili Shore or Sea House at Napili Beach Club. If you go to the Sea House, you can also park your car there and enjoy the beach at either Napili or Kapalua. There is also a Kapalua Coastal trail that offers fantastic views and it’s an easy hike.

I would not go to Costco - you don't want to have to move your groceries twice.

I always head to the hotel first (assuming it was a hotel based on the one night stay). Many times I have been able to check in right away or early. As @DeniseM suggested, dropping off your luggage and having another bag to keep with you is ideal.

I'd probably drive to Whaler's Village to do some window-shopping and maybe an early lunch. That's only back-tracking from Napili by 10 minutes. Alternately, there is also a free parking lot near the water at Nanea, and you could use the beach there or stroll to Duke's for a late breakfast/early lunch.

This is exactly what we did on our last trip to Maui. One recommendation - make a reservation at Duke's - you may not be able to walk-in, because with fewer restaurants available, it's busier than ever.

We left the airport about 9:30, drove to Ka'anapali, checked our baggage & checked in at WKORVN, and by then, it was time to stroll up the beach for our 1:00 reservation at Duke's.

Denise and everyone who responded, thank you very much for all the wonderful suggestions. We have been visiting Maui a few times and always would stop by at Costco first as its by airport plus getting drinks and food there always make sense. However it's a first time that we are staying one night somewhere else before usual week or 2 stays at the same place. What we saved on flying out on Friday compare to Saturday we spent for one night in Airbnb, kind of. But because it's not a hotel we can't bring our luggage or just spend time in the pool. We are staying in small condo and they have a guest checking out that morning so it will take time to clean and get ready for us. The place looked very nice and had 4.9 stars reviews and it's not really Napili but by Kahana village next to China Boat restaurant. I really wanted to try Napili area but for one night with cleaning and all the fees price was just too high for us. The Gazebo there is our favorite one and we are going to do it probably after airport even though planned to go there after we checkout and before getting to Costco the next day.
We also tried Sea Horse restaurant once and loved the view and atmosphere so it's also our other option. The Duke's also such a great idea for late breakfast early lunch. Denise the picture of your husband there looks so nice and Rod looks relaxed and happy. I love pancakes there! Our lasts time there was during Covid 2021.
I was trying to find one night on redweek to stay in a nice resort but of course could not find it for one night.

Oh yea thank you for reminding about that little parking by the Nanea. That's a great option to go Whaler village or Duke's!

My bucket list to go Kapalua trail. Heard about it before. Thank you

First night in Airbnb, unfortunately not Napili but more as Kahana area. Full kitchen there and beautiful ocean view from the balcony! After that one week in Hyatt Beach resort in one bedroom with full kitchen too. Again we will have plenty time after check out from Airbnb and check in there but at least its a resort and we would enjoy it earlier, I believe we can.

Check your luggage at the Hyatt - take a carry on with what you need for 1 night.

Denise, great idea but I'm going to only take carry on for the whole trip. I dress very simple on beach vacations:)

Me too - then you don't need to check anything! Easy peasy!

Yes! This is our favorite restaurant in Maui. As a bonus, Makai Glass is directly across the street where you can watch glass blowing.

oh wow. I will definitely check that!!!

Personally I'd still be tempted to try and get my shopping done the day of arrival. Why not drop your groceries off with the bell desk at the Hyatt and ask them to put it all in cold storage until the next day? I agree with DeniseM that Dukes would be my next stop 🌴

Another nice place to stop for a bit and have lunch is the Maui Tropical Plantation. Cafe O Lei is there. We have had lunch there several times and it is very nice. Pretty safe place to leave your car with luggage in it.
