As we head into the busy season across Europe there will be people who get delayed and annoying as that can be, there are some very consumer friendly regulations to deal with this. See below for an example, in the event that you get delayed

My recent scenario was a 7hr delay at a Spanish airport for a flight costing less than EUR400 return for 2 people. As ever, information was sparse airside, and text messages from the airline did little to inform. After about 5hrs we go info on where to get vouchers for food (Right to Care) with a total value of EUR35 for 2 people. Some restrictions on where they could be used but useful so we got snacks that we could eat on the aircraft rather than buy onboard.

On returning home we got an email from the airline offering an e-Voucher for EUR120 each and referencing the wrong airport, which made me concerned that it was fraud. I logged onto the airline account and followed the process for making a delay compensation claim, where they set out the info below. In the claim I requested the sum required under regulations provided as a refund not as an eVoucher. That was processed within 48hrs, resulting in a refund that was greater than the cost of the flights, and we didn't need to get dinner when we got home!!! 🄳

No need for fuss or drama, just used the process that exists and got the result.

I have always admired the EU compensation rules for delayed flights as I feel that it is highly motivating for the airlines, but I thought that I would never have an opportunity to benefit from them until we had a delayed flight (mechanical) at London Heathrow. The mechanics tried to fix our plane but we were finally transferred to different plane and looking at the time, I knew that we would arrive in Paris just about 3 hours late. As it turned out, we zipped over to CDG (Paris), landed and taxied like our hair was on fire. We arrived at the gate with about 3 minutes to spare (2 hours and 57 minutes late). Alas, no EU compensation for us.
