Costa Rica location

We stayed there about a month after it opened in October 2000. Five straight days of clouds and rain, but we squeezed in a trip to Arenal volcano and a nature tour which was pretty cool. Golf course was a nice layout but hadn't grown in yet. Black sand beaches.

I would imagine that place has grown considerably in the 20 years since we've been there. It was a sleepy little fishing and surfing area back then.

Hey Steven, I tried booking just now with DP but it does not show up online. Out of interest how did you book?
Its there.... just enter Costa Rica in the "Enter Destination or Resort Name" box and it will appear.

I booked on line with DP. Its there under Central America if you look for locations. Right between Caribbean and France.

Only 24 units?? That seems so tiny; I feel like I must be missing something. First phase of a planned larger resort?
Attached to a larger hotel complex.

I'm thinking this primarily does 2 things for MVC....its a way for MVC to have something to show (nice new villas on the sales tour) to would-be points buyers staying at the hotel, helping MVC sell points....as well as putting another exotic location on the map to say they have a MVC location here.

We’ve been to Costa Rica twice. Some of our absolute favorite vacations. Once we went in December and the other time was in July. We had great weather both times. Maybe we were just lucky.

I see it under book vacation club points. Just search for Costa and it is there. Nothing shows up as available until 2021

I just searched on MVC and I do not yet see Costa Rica listed for booking.

Def there. Its not listed under the resorts tab, but if you got to make a points reservation, you can select Costa Rica.

I was looking under the Points reservations and I did not see Costa Rica as an option.

Wow, I have no idea when is a good time to go to Costa Rica but I checked for a 1BR for a week in September and it was 1250 points for the week!

It’s a small number of points but during low season. High season is in the 4000 point range for a 2 bedroom.

Airport is San Jose (the Capital), 54 miles away, we've always rented a car. Liberia is the airport for Arenal but then you are a long 4 hours away from Los Suenos. The roads are terrible, very large potholes. We've been to CR 5 times, honeymooned there in 1997. Loved it - stayed in Tamarindo and then a great place in the Jungle/Arenal - the Lost Iguana (https://lostiguanacr.com/) an amazing place. Our room looked out across the jungle at Arenal.

most of it from the airport is what we might call throughways (not really high speed freeways) so should be OK. Maybe the last 10 miles might be rough. Always get a four wheel drive vehicle. I would check with your car insurance company about coverage or perhaps a rider. I don't remember needing an international drivers license. Never leave luggage or any valuables in the car. It is a 3rd world country and there is a lot of poverty around. We were amazed that every little town/community had a church and CR has the highest literacy rate (98%) only 1% less than the US.

Someone mentioned problems with prostitution in Jaco and presumably at this resort. I googled it and learned prostitution is legal in Costa Rica and common in San Jose, Jaco and a few other areas. I have been all over Costa Rica on two trips and never noticed prostitution but I have heard the reports online about it. Has anyone been to this resort and is prostitution a problem in the resort itself or just in town?

I knew it was legal, but never saw a hint of it in San Jose or Guanacaste on four visits.

Anyone out there ever look into CR as a retirement location?
