What in the world in Wyndham doing building a resort in Atlanta given the many places they do NOT have resorts that would be much more needed?
I mean, is Atlanta suffering from a shortage of hotels? And I am sure the cost to stay here (and park here) will be something other than affordable...

As much as I like the decision to build in Moab, this decision is without logic. Who is Michael Brown surveying when he makes this claim:
...Downtown vacation destinations are the number one request from our owners, and Atlanta is at the top of everyone's travel list. This will be an extremely popular location for our members, adding to our stellar city-center vacation club locations...

As a Wyndham owner, I do not recall being surveyed on this question and while I might have missed the survey, Atlanta is NOT on the top of everyone's travel list unless you're a fan of Odysseus. There are several national parks around the country that still lack a resort in a reasonably handy location nearby and national parks have to be a much more consistently attractive draw than Atlanta and now, in light of recent events, why build resorts in urban areas?

I get that a better resort system will try and offer something for as many people as possible (featuring a variety of destinations) but Atlanta just is not an area lacking for places to stay.

There are a couple of people at least in the thread below that disagree....

Maybe we need to merge this thread with that one...... Thanks for the heads up on that thread, @Eric B

YQW, @bbodb1. Personally, I'm not all that interested in going to Atlanta myself as a stand alone trip, but there are an awful lot of flights that connect through there. Might be nice to break up a flight to somewhere else with a day or two on the way. We'll see how successful it is.

BTW, the reason I posted it as a separate thread is that the other was on the subject of a different announcement by Wyndham regarding mostly the integration of the Shell Vacation Clubs resorts. I started this one because it's a different announcement that was unrelated and pertained to a new resort rather than integration of existing ones. Up to the moderators, of course, but I don't see a great need to merge them.

My question is can regular retail owners use their points here or is it going to be Margaritaville restricted, or combination?

Perusing the announcement, there will likely be both Margaritaville and Club Wyndham units there. If you look at the pictures (artist renditions) it notes that the Cub Wyndham suites will not have the tropical themes that the Margaritaville ones will.

Respect your opinion and totally understand that everyone travels differently- but I am excited about this resort and these renderings make me even more excited! It looks awesome. I think one of the most appealing things about Wyndham over some of their competitors is there better line-up of Urban locations- Nashville, San Antonio, New Orleans, San Diego, and soon to be Atlanta. Sure Atlanta has numerous hotels like any other major city, but so do beaches and mountains- the reason a timeshare is more appealing is the same no matter the destination- more space and a full kitchen! I have two young children, I don't want to share a single hotel room with them and have to eat out for 3 meals and multiple snacks a day. Having a kitchen and seperate bedrooms is so much more convenient. A hotel that offers anything close to a 2BR timeshare is almost non-existent.

I am also a National Park enthusiasit so I am ALL FOR adding more locations in the gateway cities to major national parks! (Are they planning to build something in Moab?? I haven't heard about that yet!) But Urban locations are very appealing to me as well, so I really hope they can strike the right balance and add both!

Looks like a combination for sure; not just open to Margaritaville owners.

I’m excited about this resort also. We usually go to Atlanta at least once or twice a year for football games and it will be great to have a condo to stay in instead of a hotel room. I can’t wait to see it.

Thanks for your thoughts @jwalk03 and I do agree with your point about resort stays on vacation being far superior to hotel stays. That is precisely what brought us to the world of timeshare all those years ago.....

To answer your question about Moab, it is in the process on being built with an estimated completion date of Jan 2021 (but not sure how COVID-19 may have impacted that date estimate)....
With 2 of Utah's Mighty 5 in reach from this location, it should be a popular destination for a long time. Wyndham's presence in mountain locations still seem under represented in their locations in my opinion. I guess I should search out more info on where Wyndham is looking to build in the coming years and fill Michael Brown's inbox........

I just went to 3 of the mighty 5 last month- Zion, Bryce & Capitol Reef. (Absolutely amazing, and I loved every bit of it! Couldn't believe how different each of them were from the others!) So the 2 Moab ones are still on my bucket list!

I found an article about it, looks like its a WorldMark only location. I wish they would have made it Wyndham & WorldMark, but its still a very appealing location. Especially after looking at hotel prices in Moab!!

We have hit Zion and look forward to visiting the other 4. I just hope we are able to go sometime other than the summer this trip!
Although these days, I probably should not be so picky..

Urban locations are extremely popular with many Gen Xers and Millenials - which are the largest block of current and future buyers for the timeshare sales and marketing division. :)

I definitely fit that demographic, though I will never buy from them thanks to TUG!

There is so much going on in Downtown Atlanta, I see excellent demand for this down the post-COVID road.

Plus, I think will be easy to rent these rooms as executive short-term housing or other short-term rentals in addition to the timeshare income.

I think the big timeshare chain should add more urban locations. We know we don't need any more Orlando timeshares.

Maybe they have too many beach locations, but I would love a resort in Key West.

Key West and also the SW Coast of Florida! Naples, Bonita Springs, Ft. Myers, Sanibel, Siesta Key, somewhere!

Don't forget Wyndham Fairfield Plantation about 45 minutes west of Atlanta in Villa Rica.

https://clubwyndham.wyndhamdestinat.../georgia/villa-rica/fairfield-plantation.html

We had a lovely stay there about six years ago - wide open spaces, with big city
less than an hour away. Showing plenty of 2BR and 2BR loft availability in Sep/Oct.

That said, I personally prefer urban locations and would welcome downtown Atlanta.

I kind of like the Austin one as well.

Second, third, and fourth that motion. Can't wait to go back!

How about a really nice resort between Virginia and South Carolina.

We live in metro Atlanta and definitely welcome this location as many big football games are played at the Mercedes Benz dome and the Georgia Aquarium is virtually next door, along with, many other unique attractions---a perfect place for a brief midweek or a weekend outing. I am aware that Wyndham would like a property in Boston, Charleston, SC, Maui, and possibly Dallas, TX, but I agree that we desperately need more beach inventory in Florida and other southeastern beach areas. Hawaii, however, due to COVID and a history of lackluster sales years (which exists industry wide) is unlikely for a near term investment, as is, the Caribbean. I would anticipate few, if any, further inventory announcements until COVID resolves, and then, I would begin to expect several Margaritaville announcements--some of which will involve the conversion of existing inventory units.

No other timeshare company can touch Wyndham in terms of overall US locations--but we are missing the before mentioned locations. I will mention that the Shell inventory fills a void in key Arizona markets, adds inventory in San Francisco, provides wine country units , and adds Anaheim units.

They need a Margaritaville in SW FL similar in quality to Marriott Crystal Shores on Marco Island. All the legacy Marriott weeks owners fight for a week there using II. It's already known to have a huge demand in the Marriott system. Why would Wyndham be any different? Here is a pic of Crystal Shores for reference. I'd LOVE a Margaritaville themed resort just like this one.

I sure the SEC championship game will be a sell out weekend
