Too much focus on the looting too much silence about the murder(s) of citizens of color. Protesting (and unfortunately the necessity to sometimes riot) was learned at the birth of this country, known as The Boston Tea Party, and even then the first victim Crispus Attucks was a gentleman of color. And if you couldn't support that riot then you're siding with King George the Tyrant.
And no focus on the murder of policemen and policewomen.
Which is a more common occurrence?

Hopefully you are willing to write a cheque to the businesses that have been looted. Owners who represent all races and classes of people. Anyone trying to justify looting loses all credibility. How many have died/killed since the protesting started?
How many are unemployed because of social distancing and now others do not care can will infect more people while not following the law.
We may want the same result but I think my path is the better way to get there.

I guess you would have supported the Tyrant King George at this country's very first riot and looting known as The Boston Tea Party and afterward The Boston Massacre which even then the first victim Crispus Attucks was a gentleman of color. "Freedom's Never Free"

You mean like the murder of Bryonna Taylor? Oh wait, she was a black EMT so I guess that doesn't count.

Many of us feel that ending the code of silence and understanding bias in enforcement is in fact supporting law enforcement. The only domestic organization that has codified use of deadly force has to be held to a high standard.

Michael Vick spent more time in jail for killing a dog then all the cops combined and involved in the murder of 493 African Ameerican citizens.
Care to support your statement with any facts or do you just randomly type things on the screen?

Seems an introduction may be in order.

I am the brother of a law enforcement officer and understand the frustration that many officers live with. Just so you understand, he doesn't agree with what those officers did to George Floyd, as do so many others. That was without any doubt criminal and should be punished. Burning down and looting neighborhood businesses has not ever and will not bring the change to any racist, black, brown or white. It will simply ingrain the hate further. Anyone who supports that action does so because they believe anger and rage will bring a solution. It can't and it won't.

Think what you want and believe whatever you like, I can't change your way of thinking and I'm not even going to try.

I also know people in law enforcement and understand the frustrations of citizens and police.

"After every police brutality case like the one involving George Floyd, there are loud calls — this time backed by nationwide protests — for police departments to reform. Frustratingly, nothing seems to change. Among the many reasons for this bureaucratic sclerosis, one often gets overlooked: the power of police labor unions. "

I agree with you on this @bluehende - and in fact so do the overwhelming majority of police.
At the same time, there still has to be support for the police who are doing their jobs correctly. And there will be instances where police are forced to the take this life of a citizen - and those instances should be thoroughly investigated, lessons learned and applied. I think we would all agree on that.
When police who cannot or will not meet those standards are identified, they should be dealt with swiftly.
Civilians should become more involved in the process of police oversight.

@Brett - I am reading your cited article right now and while it is an opinion piece, it does raise many apporpriate questions. But I want to place this question to you:

How do you design the position of police office such that it guarantees to attract the type of candidate you would want it to attract?

yes, an opinion

since most police departments are similar - and similar to other developed countries (with some notable exceptions )
it comes down to training, personnel, leadership, etc

I copied this - others with more knowledgeable opinions

You agree bias needs to be rooted out but have said this,

There is NO justification for the senseless mob violence that has occurred under the guise of 'protest'. The use of a false flag of racism to cover these heinous acts is where the focus needs to be - and now.

Would not the white supremacy groups being charged in the violence be the true false flag.

Specifically referring to a false flag of racism.

I do not see him as a tyrant where ruining property was justified. I’m biased but would side with the British. Some of my ancestrys saw the light and moved to British North America after. Now the US attacking Canada was wrong in 1812. Thankfully we kept our land even against the odds. But what was done was done and now on the most part pretty good relations.

Hello. I am the husband of a retired federal law enforcement officer. What is the frustration you speak of that many officers live with? You make the statement but you don’t say what you’re talking about. Nobody here that I have read, is excusing the looting and violence. We can separate that from the lawful, peaceful protests that so many more people are participating in. This is the frustration that families of unarmed people, disproportionately black, who are killed by police have to live with.

Lol ...my daughter’s host father , from her exchange program in Switzerland, emailed me today telling me who I should vote for in the US presidential election this Nov
It is all good as long as the "recommended" candidate is whom you would have voted for anyway.

@VacationForever My daughter explained to me that the Swiss are very open in regards to discussing politics, so I think there are some culture clashes going on here.

The ironic thing is that his email was in the vein of improving racial issues in the US, when my daughter told me that host dad himself is a bigot.
