The looting is so needless but a result of police and government refusing to control its citizens. In the end it costs us all.
It is not up to police and government to control citizens. It is their job to enforce laws. But when authorities unlawfully single out certain law abiding citizens, it's those authorities that need controlling.

Those protesters did not show up with armored vehicles, riot gear and tear gas.

But some citizens did do the damage while police and government just let them. Obviously asking nicely or showing force does not work or a curfew.
How many people have committed crimes since the protests started? How many have actually been charged?

An autocrat government and military police strictly controlling its citizens - yeah, that's what we need :poop::poop:

like the police issuing those 'pandemic' tickets .... eh?

seems like Charleston SC was actually peaceful the last couple of days - downtown restaurants and businesses are open

The protests this time are over a man being killed over suspicion of trying to pass a counterfeit $20. But it's much deeper. It's the result of 400 years of systematic racism. It's citizens being harassed for no other 'crime' than their skin color. Colin Kaepernick tried to bring attention to institutional racism and was called a SOB, and the owners of the NFL hung him out to dry. Peaceful protest doesn't effect a cure for the disease of racism.

I'm sorry, but my little voice crying out in the boonies, is heartbroken for the direction and deep division my beloved country, the one I pledged my life to defend against all enemies, has taken.

Tanks, gas, guns and arrests are NOT the answer.

If we're counting:
How many police officers have committed crimes against citizens since the protests started? How many have actually been charged?
How many police officers have committed crimes against citizens in the last year? 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? 100 years? How many have actually been charged?

My heart is also broken for the division in our country. However, you indicate that you live in the boonies. If you lived in one of these urban areas that have been looted and terrorized over the past week, do you think you'd feel differently about the alternative to peaceful protests? Someone dear to me had their business wiped out 3 nights ago and their neighborhood looks like a war zone.

I am truly sorry for those people whose lives and livelihoods have been changed, uprooted, and destroyed. They didn't deserve it. But neither did/do millions of Black and brown people deserve to be discriminated against or harassed by authorities or held to menial employment because of the color of their skin. To them, this didn't start 3 nights ago. It's been going on all their lives. All their parents and all THEIR parent's lives.

It's high time for a change.

I have no more to add to this conversation.

I abhor violence in any form. What I do have is the utmost respect for the group of people I watched in LA last night. A whole group was being arrested. The protestors were sitting or on one knee. The police would come get someone and use their ties and move the person to a holding area. The protestors would applaud and cheer every individual as they got up , maybe said something, and was arrested. The police allowed each to say a few words and were very professional. The protestors were very polite. I honor anyone willing to be arrested for civil disobedience for a principle. I would only hope I would have that courage of conviction.

Hopefully you are willing to write a cheque to the businesses that have been looted. Owners who represent all races and classes of people. Anyone trying to justify looting loses all credibility. How many have died/killed since the protesting started?
How many are unemployed because of social distancing and now others do not care can will infect more people while not following the law.
We may want the same result but I think my path is the better way to get there.

What were they being arrested for? My question is not to provoke - I'm truly curious.

Assumption was curfew. The reporter that had been with them did mention that there was no looting or anything thrown at the police. The lead up was police on both sides converged on a group of marchers penning them in.

As I recall you don't even live in the U.S. Where is it exactly you do live?

@am1 FYI...peaceful assembly is in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The same rights that the Michigan and Ohio protesters carrying automatic weapons in the statehouse and screaming at cops without social distancing a few weeks ago used.

@am1 I don't seem to recall you complaining about the Michigan and Ohio protesters carrying automatic weapons into the state legislature and screaming at cops infecting them and others due to lack of social distancing a few weeks ago?

If they were violating a law I would arrest them all as well or ticket depending on what the law called for.

According to the second amendment of the U.S. constitution, people in many states are allow to carry guns during those protests similar to the Michigan Covid protesters who carried automatic weapons into the Michigan statehouse a few weeks ago. These protesters haven't done that even though it is their second amendment right.

Either the UK or Canada, (or other Former British colony), based on the fact the wrote cheque and not check.

When you asked the first time it was inquisitive. Asking twice with capital letters comes off as bullying.
