Cancelling Wyndham Contract

Do you have any ideas on consequences for doing so? Would we be flagged at all going into the States? Or our credit affected (I've read they don't or rarely report to the Canadian credit bureau)? Or possibly taken to court?
It is not criminal and I don't see how you will be flagged going into the States. I have yet to read about anyone being taken to court or wage garnishments for unpaid dues/loan on a timeshare.

I am looking for any advice or guidance on how to go about cancelling of my contract. (Not reselling, not upgrading, I want to CANCEL) I am aware that the majority don’t think it can be done….but I have heard stories of timeshare holders being very persistent and getting their contracts cancelled on their own without the use of a third party.

We purchased 200,000 points July 2022. We regret the decision and want out of our contract. All of these ‘exit companies, lawyers, advocacy groups etc’ in my mind, is just another scam and more money we cannot afford.

So I want to do this myself, I’m starting with a cancellation letter to let them know of our intent for cancellation. (I know I am past the grace period but I am going to try my hardest to get out of this on my own. I represented myself in a couple of court cases before, how hard can this be?!)

I wanted to start this forum in hopes to help other people in a similar situation as me, let’s get through this and find a way!

I was mislead, lied to and intimidated to close this deal. This is fraudulent and not ok. I simply want to just be free of this contract, I am not even going to hold my breath for a refund, just let me go!
I tried for 6 months with proof we were lied to but all they keep saying is that it was not recorded on the video so there is no way to cancel. I wrote all the way up the chain to corporate and got the same crap.

So what have you ended up doing then?

It’s not going to impact your ability to enter the US. I can’t speak to consequences to your credit report in Canada although anecdotal reports on this forum seem to indicate it’s unlikely to have any impact. You’ll likely get some threatening collection letters.

I wonder what happened to OP (April the bulldog).

Haha thanks for the name. I am still pursing this. I stopped payment, sent a letter to request a refund and cancel our contract on the grounds of ‘they are not holding up to their end of the contract”. They contacted us by phone and said they couldn’t help us. Just keeping good record of everything and blasting out hate mail 😅I am following the steps I attached myself. I have a road ahead obut I will post about any progress I’ve made, periodically.

I am following the steps I listed below. Do not hire outside help for this, they are scamming you also. You can do it yourself. Send everything by Priority Mail, don’t give up. Be persistent. Best of Luck to you!

I spoke with someone who actually worked in ‘cancelling your timeshare’ business. He quit, said it was just scamming people further when you can do it yourself. Follow these steps I’ve attached below. Be persistent, tell them they are not holding up to their end of the contract, they owe you their time. Be creative. How could you possibly pay for something you aren’t receiving? Contact and report to all the 3 letter bureaucrats. File a police report for fraud. File a report to the real estate ethics commission. Do a bunch of research. Reddit has some good info, you gotta dive deep, this info is well hidden. Best of luck to you!

One of my sisters works for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and another sister works for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and they receive so many complaints about timeshare purchase and tatics that were used by TS sales people. I would say 95% of the people who purchased TS have zero understanding of financial literacy. 18% interest on a loan like credit card interest rate seriously? People complain about 7% interest rate on a home mortgage, and yet they just blindly purchased a TS with 18% loan interest rate.

According to my sisters, 9 out of 10 complaints have to do with people who are interested in "free" stuffs from TS and TS people know how to prey on that. Both sides are equally responsible.

Curious about your claim Wyndham is not complying with the contract. In what way?

Glad you aren't too upset about the nickname. You are a very persistent lady! It seemed to fit.
