Black Friday Shopping Deals?

We signed up for Hulu for $1.99 a month for 12 months. We don't have television but do have Prime and Disney+. We figured what can it hurt for $24 a year for the first year. We also found out that we get HBO Max with our AT&T Internet service. They now have an app on Amazon Fire devices, so that makes watching it much easier.

Have you watched it yet? How obnoxious are the commercials? The $1.99 plan is the one with ADS.

I am trying Peacock to watch EPL matches, the ADS on NBC shows are worse than live TV, very repetitious, the same AD at every break.

We haven't watched it yet. We are traveling and just signed up. We don't have our Firestick with us. We know all about the repetitive ads, we have watched IMDB TV and they have the same problem. Once we can get our hands on our Firestick, I will report back. I think the $1.99 offer is still cancel anytime. So you aren't tied into it for the full year.

One issue I do see with Hulu is that it doesn't seem to be supported on a lot of in hotel room televisions. Often you can use the TV to login to Netflix, Prime, YouTube and such. However, I have yet to see Hulu as an option. I don't think I can access Hulu through Prime, but rather need a Firestick or other such device with the Hulu app installed.

Nice! We've looked at those, and think they are pretty darned interesting and fun. (I'm married to a photography nut, remember.) I like that the frames you can get for it come in different styles, to match your decor. You might want to do a bit of research about them while you have the return policy. Not sure which version you bought, but there are a couple of different versions of it, and you will likely want the newer/better version. I'm interested to know what you think of it after you've had it awhile.

Dave

Costco has them in stock. Just sayin...

So far I’m seeing the same ongoing sales. 3 companies that have been emailing me about their sales for the past 6 months are now sending Black Friday emails..... it’s the same 30% off it has been.

I had the commercial free version for a while then canceled when I realized I wasn’t watching it that often. Now I have it with ads, and I hate ads, but since I’m not paying for it (don’t ask) I’m good with it. For $2/mth I’d probably be fine with that, too, and I assume they don’t offer an upgrade to commercial free for less than the regular rate (if they do, it’s worth the upgrade).

I’ve simply discovered that there’s very little on Hulu I really want to watch. But one show I want to catch up on is Handmaids...though with everything going on this year I really haven’t had the energy to watch more dystopian shows (especially this one).

I ordered these headphones. I have good wireless earbuds but really dislike them for a variety of reasons, and runner friends of mine told me the AfterShokz are good though definitely not the same sound quality for obvious reasons.

No discount on the upgraded version. If you have the ad free version and upgrade, you start to just pay the full price for ad free.

Yeah, Handmaids is the one show my wife has been bugging me about as a reason to try Hulu so it looks like I’ll bite on the $1.99 deal.

OK I wont ask for your friends login credentials :)

FYI...If you have college kids with a student subscription to spotify, Hulu is bundled for free...

Thanks all for your earphone suggestions. My DH who is technical found this article:

Best wireless earbuds for 2020 | Tom's Guide

Although I like the around the neck idea to remove and hang then put them in my ears when I need to jump on a Zoom call, I could not find a higher end model with noise cancelling and good reviews.

I ultimately went with the higher-end Jabra model 75T because I need the noise cancelling for planes and someone said it was comfortable. I can be on zoom for 4 - 8 hours working so comfort and battery length were also important. It was rated highly for these attributes. The Samsung buds were my second choice. I was able to get the Jabras on BF sale for $135 at Best Buy apply $15 in Best Buy credits (my DH is technical so he gets lots of Best Buy credits buying equipment for his office) so net price was around $120.

This is a work expense so I was able to have the company pay for it than for casual use. Thanks all for your thoughts.

YMMV. Now I need to find a new phone for my son!

No. I switched to cyber Monday a few years back and now I ignore both of them actually.

The Disney bundle is a nice choice. Includes Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu for $12.99 a month.
The Disney Bundle includes the full versions of Disney+ (regular price is $6.99/month), ESPN+ (regular price is $5.99/month), and Hulu’s ad-supported plan (regular price is $5.99/month) for just $12.99/month. Save over 25% when you bundle all three! (Savings compared to regular price for each service.)

Thanks for the info Ken. I looked at Costco today and the only benefits seem to be a $50 credit in the art subscription and an easier return policy. In Costco you just bring in the item and give it back. I don't know what the procedure for returning with Samsung direct is but I assume it's packing back up and bringing it to Fedex. They don't say whether or not you have to pay for return shipping.
On the down side Costco is selling last years model and this years direct from Samsung has additional features. I'm happy with going with Samsung direct. It gets delivered this Wednesday and the reviews said Costco's delivery takes about 10 days or longer.

I bought the 32" model with no additional extras. We get it this week. I'm going to try it out before mounting it to make sure we like it. We are mounting it on a wall with 1/2" pine T&G so I don't want to put holes in the paneling before we decide to keep it. From the reviews I've seen it comes with anchor bolts for a sheetrock wall but I'll have to screws that don't come with it.

Sounds nice. Be sure to take pictures of the process. I'd like too see that. :D

FWIW, when I've had to return items to Costco in the past they paid for the shipping, but I'm not sure if that's their standard policy or not. If you're curious, it would only take a quick call. Costco customer service lately (I've had to call in the last couple months a number of times) is the best I've experienced this year...they're just so nice they must all be Canadians! ;)

I ended out getting the Hulu Black Friday deal yesterday. Nothing to loose there with $24 for the year. It’s already been worth it for my wife. She has been getting caught up with The Handmaid’s Tale since we signed up yesterday. :D

That's what I meant in my first post. Emails forever and ever about every little thing ever invented, and nothing on sale for real that's catching my eye.

Although my laptop must be noticing the calendar. It has started developing hardware issues, especially this morning. I'm afraid a meltdown is in the works, and a new computer may be on the horizon... <sigh>

I have Hulu--the cheap Hulu with the commercials. The commercials are only a little obnoxious. Generally commercials don't bug me too much. Same with IMDB TV.

BUT we recently watched something on CW Seed and the commercials were unbearable. CONSTANTLY! Like a commercial every three minutes!

So far we agree. The commercials aren’t bad and they don’t bother us at all.

Ah...then you haven't watched enough so that you know all the words for all five of the commercials. Just wait, you'll get there!

I have that here on regular and cable tv. It doesn’t bother us.

I canceled cable about five years ago. This year I've watched some Hulu and many hours on Sling (I resubscribed to it in March). I hate commercials, and Hulu is worse than others because they have only a few commericals at a time. Among other reasons, I think commercials are largely a waste of time.

Been watching tv with commercials all my life and they never really bothered me. I don’t know if we will keep Hulu after the cheap year, time will tell.
