Best options for renting [out] a timeshare?

We normally use the timeshare weeks that we own, but have a number of cruises booked for next year and so we won't be able to use two of our timeshare weeks. I've snagged the 4th of July week at both resorts, which I expect would be a pretty popular week, one on Cocoa Beach, FL and one on Capistrano Beach, CA. What have you found to be the most trustworthy and effective places to put prime weeks up for rent? I had been thinking RedWeek, but there have been some rather negative posts regarding RedWeek in the past few months.

I rented out two weeks this summer. The first on TUG Marketplace ! and the second on Airbnb.com

If the lesser known websites are free to list, go ahead and try them. Just be sure to delete the ad once it does rent.

The town has some sort of ordinance that rental properties must have licenses and have a property manager or some sort of overseer within 2 hours of the property. I can’t find out if that is the same for timeshare week rentals… ughh do you or anyone have any experience or info on this?

We'd need to know what town you're talking about.

Restrictions on short-term rentals are becoming more and more common.

We have that rule in our subdivision, but it has no effect on the timeshare rentals

Yes Christmas mountain has maybe 200 home lots, 350 timeshares, a big campground and 90 sites for park models.
And many of the homes are over 5000 square feet.
If a home is on Airbnb or other platform it has to get a permit. Timeshares do not. There are log homes with lots of bedrooms on that market, sleep 12 or more. We’re not originally permitted but state law changed a few years ago

What you describe is eminently sensible. My experience with regulation of short-term rentals is in New Orleans, specifically a timeshare called Quarter House. Quarter House is located in a commercial area, so it's not like owners in a residential area are being bothered by renters of one of the houses. Of course, occupants of timeshare resorts are short-term renters almost by definition.

Quarter House itself has been grandfathered, as have hotels, etc. So QH can rent its units but an owner like me cannot without getting a permit. Permits cost $500. That's why I no longer own four weeks there. Just one now.
