Baseball playoffs

What a series! Can't wait for tomorrow. Great adjustments by the Dodgers, Rojas did a great job defensively. I think Scherzer is going to be throwing some heat tomorrow for the Blue Jays. On the other hand I think Dave Roberts will have 2 or 3 of our starters pitch tomorrow.

Tonight it will be over
Will the Blue Jays be the victim of another strange and ambiguous call by the officiating team
Is a ball "lodged" if it was put back into play before being examined by an official ??
The umpires say it was
No crying in baseball
Go Jays
Win in Game 7

It's not lodged until an umpire calls it "lodged". If a player retrieves a lodged ball before the umpire makes the call, then it becomes a live ball.

The clip below is apparently getting a lot of play today, with many people asserting conflicting umpiring decisions. But that's not correct. In the clip, note that the first base umpire was still heading out to make the call when Alex Rios, the right fielder, retrieved the ball, and threw it back to the infield. When Rios picked up the ball before the umpire had made a call, the umpire immediately gave the "safe" signal, indicating the ball was in play. Had Rios not retrieved the ball, Fielder would have been returned to second base.

In the game last night, Justin Dean, the Dodger CF, played it properly. He threw up his hands to call for a ground rule double, leaving the ball in place until the umpire made the call.

He was called back
The run that scored was negated and Jays ended up with men on second and third instead of a man on second and the score 3-2

Correct. That is because Dean played it properly last night, resulting in a ground rule double. Alex Rios did not play it properly, resulting in Cecil Fielder's inside the park home run. Had Alex Rios not put prematurely put the ball back in play, Cecil Fielder's hit would also have been a ground rule double.

There is no inconsistency between the two situations.

Posting this after the Dodgers tie the game in the top of the 9th. This might be the best season of playoff baseball ever - at least since the era of expanded playoffs. Every single series except Dodgers vs. Brewers and Dodgers vs. Reds was tense and close. And now, a great World Series, with a classic game seven, takes yet another twist with a game-tying home run in the top of the 9th from an unlikely hero.

Wow, what a game. This series has been awesome, but its super stressful for both teams.

These teams are well matched
If it was best of 9, 11, 13, etc
There would never be a dominant team
It would go back and forth
Great baseball
Great Teams
They only play 7 for the pennant

What an incredible game and series. I’m a Dodger fan but before the game ended I said, if the Jays win I won’t mind. Both teams deserved it.

As an old baseball fan . I looked for this World Series to go seven games.
Outstanding pitchers, outstanding infield play and outstanding reliever's will decide this World Series. IMHO.
Game7 .. what an awesome game IMHO. Both teams deserved to be crowned MLB baseball champion. But only one team can be crowned World Series Champion and that is the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now can the Dodgers do the impossible and repeat against in 2026.

It was a visitor serie. Both teams won only 1 game at home.

Game 1 at Toronto: Blue Jays won 11-4
Game 2 at Toronto: Dodgers won 5-1
Game 3 at Los Angeles: Dodgers won 6-5 (18)
Game 4 at Los Angeles: Blue Jays won 6-2
Game 5 at Los Angeles: Blue Jays won 6-1
Game 6 at Toronto: Dodgers won 3-1
Game 7 at Toronto: Dodgers won 5-4 (11)

Total of points : Blue Jays 34 (11+1+5+6+6+1+4), Dodgers 26 (4+5+6+2+1+3+5).

The Dodgers won both games that needed overtime (games 3 and 7).
Except for game 1, the Dodgers won all their games by 1 or 2 points.
The Blue Jays won all their games by 4, 5 and 7 points.

Dodgers showed some grit and determination in those last few innings, it was great to see Yamamoto pitching and get that final double play ball, what an exciting finish! We screamed ourselves hoarse.

as a fan of neither, that was a fantastic series to watch.

What an epic series!
It wasn't just this series. Almost all of the preliminary series were tense and close, highlighted by the Blue Jays vs Mariners League Final. The WS was nearly an exact replica of that series.

....... that was a fantastic series to watch.

It was fantastic to watch & full of scenarios & stories.

I am glad guys who were not starters got to suddenly play in the 18 inning game
-including Clayton Kershaw .

Game 7 { some memories ]
-Bo Bichette hits a 3 run homer - 3-0 Blue Jays
- George Springer getting 3 hits ; while obviously hurting
-Miguel Rojas unexpected home run in the 9th -reminded me of the home run hit by Ozzie Smith in 1985's Game 5 [ We lived in St. Louis then ]
- A double play win the game [with the Blue Jays threatening to tie or even win]

You forgot The Catch by Pages. That ball hits the wall and it’s game over.

1st and 3rd with 1 out. Should have stole 2nd which would avoid a double play to end the game.

You get thrown out and now can’t hit a sac fly to win it.

That's what I said last night. There was no way Will Smith was going to throw to second with the winning run on third.

Hats off to the Toronto Blue Jay's they did a wonderful job. It was like a heavy fight last night with the Dodgers on the ropes most of the night. As a Dodger fan I thought we were going to lose last night as we haven't been hitting well all series and then all of a sudden Muncy and Rojas hit solo home runs. We left too many men on base. Toronto had all the momentum. If it wasn't for our defensive plays by Rojas and Pages the Blue Jays would be champions. Blue Jays left everything out on the field and have nothing to be ashamed of. The Dodgers just got lucky and sometimes that's what it takes. 🍀
