Can anyone tell me what the best way to get from airport to Harborside for 6 people is? Would be nice to rent a van/limo service, but then would have to make sure they are they at correct time. Taxis plentiful? Anyone have prices on the various options? Appreciated in advance!

don't have to, most of the "Taxi's" are mini vans or vans which will carry 6 of you. they will charge you extra for each person and extra luggage. in may they charged us $55 for all of us.

You won't have any trouble getting a taxi for 6 people. It's probably the most reasonable option.

So when are you going? There's at least a couple of us who will be there Aug 15-22!

Anyone else there then? I'll have the TUG Banner -- need a pic with as many tuggers as possible!

The first week in August for us-- anyone else at that time?

Taxis/vans/limos are all plenitful and are waiting at the airport. We got a van for 10 and all of our luggage. Total cost was $150, which included a stop at the liquour store and grocery store.

Taxis cost is $34 plus $4 per person.

A stop at the stores en route to HRA is ideal. I'm definitely doing this next time I'm there!

We're leaving for Harborside tomorrow morning...Can't wait!

Lucky Dog! Have a great time!

Take a collapsible cooler, spf 45 (waterproof), coffee/tea, insulated mugs (cold drinks get hot fast), snacks/non-perishables, don't do the update (just say no!), remember that the house always wins in the end, have the taxi stop for groceries, alcohol, beer, water before you stop at the resort.

If you have alot of luggage, use a porter. Have your luggage tagged with a piece of ribbon, give him a piece and he will get all of the luggage. He will also walk you through the luggage inspections and get your transportation.

have the best time. can't wait to go back.

find out if you can if any of the units in the 1st phase have started with the renovations yet. thanks. and what building.

All great advice! Got everything covered except WHERE did u stop for groceries and liquor? Are there specific stores u like???
What about you, Barbra? suggestions?

If you are on the main road that runs along the water as you are heading to Atlantis, you pass the bridges to Paradise Island, about 1/4 mile up on the right is a shopping center.

Here is a link to see the shopping center. link

You can see it at the bottom right.

car seats?

Can you get a taxi with a car seat? Or will they let you take a baby without one? We don't want to drag the infant seat with us since we won't be renting a car and only need it to and from the airport.

Good question..........I don't know.

I don't think they require car seats there like in the US. In fact, I don't recall seeing any seat belts either. On our last trip, they squeezed 10 of us in a van with all of our luggage. We almost didn't make it over the bridge.

Hi Barbara,
We just got back from Harborside two days ago. I asked about the phase one renovations and was told that they plan to start in January 2009. I was told that they are getting new paint, carpet, granite counter tops, dvd players, and other furnishings. He was not sure if the phase one color would be like the tropical colors that they have now but said that he hoped they would.

GrayFal,
There is a shopping center which is about a mile or so from Harborside. If you cross the Paradise Island bridge you go to the left and it is down the road about one half a mile on the right. The grocery store is called The Shopping Center Meat market. The prices were good compared to other prices around Harborside. Half Gallon of OJ. was $5.75 and a half gallon of milk was either $1.79 or $3.50. The lower price was for the close dated stuff which had two days remaining on the sell by date. Eggs went for $3.75 a dozen and Turkey bacon went for $4.50 a pack. They also have a couple of liquor stores there. Many of the other shops open between 9:00 & 10:00, but the meat Market opens around 7:00. There is a KFC located in this center as well. There is also a small liquor store right by Anthony's Grill which is across the street from the Marina. Harborside has a shuttle that goes to the shopping center a couple times a week. It goes there at 9:00 and picks you up an hour later. You can also take a cab to get there. I chose to walk so I could see the sights.

Kepi,
I was in a number of cabs last week at Harborside and did not see any car seats in any of them. Most of the cabs are small vans which can hold more people.

Stingrae,
The shopping center you are referring to is on Paradise Island? I assume this is something different from Hurrican Hole? Others on TUG have recommended going into Nassau if one takes a taxi to get groceries-- perhaps price/selection? Can someone clarify what is best?

The shopping center is in Nassau. All you have to do is cross the Paradise Island bridge to get to Nassau. The small food store that was in Hurricane Hole is no longer there. A number of the shops that were there were torn down recently. Atlantis bought the property and is going to expand the Marina with more shops and places for family dining in that area.

Tom & Robin,
Thanks for all of the good advice! The only thing that I did forget to take with me was the collapisible cooler. I won't forget it when I return next year.
