Five. I had all but the first letter on my third line, but there were four more letters (on top of what I had on line three) that could have fit into that first space. It took me two tries (fortunately not four, that would have meant total failure) to get that last letter.

Almost all of mine are four these days. I have a 'method' that works, but takes a little fun out of it. I have three words that use all the vowels (stone, prima, lucky). Most of the time that gives me enough to figure out the word fairly easily.
