Has anyone bought or sold through Timeshare Rescue of Orlando, Florida? I'm negotiating with them now and would appreciate your expertise.

Thanks.

Thanks, Denise.

Lots of negatives re: transferring your timeshare to Timeshare Rescue but I don't see anything about buying from them. That is what I am considering.

According to their website, they are Better Business approved.

In general, it's better to buy from one of these places than to sell through them. The main thing is that you use an independent closing company and that all funds go through escrow. Do as much research about the week as you can on your own before buying.

The BBB doesn't actually approve any business, they serve to help resolve complaints and their site will list complaints they receive from consumers about a particular business. The first thought that comes to mind is that any business that claims to be approved by the BBB is being somewhat deceptive. That said, it's the sellers who get hosed by Post Card companies and not necessarily the buyers; if you're looking to buy you may do OK. Make sure you check the Tug classifieds or eBay to make sure the price is within reason (take into account closing and other incidental costs).

That, and a Buck... will get you a cup of coffee! the BBB does not approve businesses, and any business can join the BBB and display their signage logo etc. nothing against the BBB, they do good work. but I'm suspicious of a business that overly promotes a relationship with the BBB. RT

I appreciate all the responses, and will inquire about which closing company Timeshare Rescue plans to use, and ask about escrow.

When visiting their web site, there seems to be an emphasis on the fact that the organization is not in the business of selling timeshares. The contradiction is is what made me hesitant about continuing the transaction through them.

You should be aware that if you are paying for escrow/closing, you also have the right to choose the company, but many of these ebay sellers have a special relationship with a closing Co. and only want to use them. That doesn't necessarily mean they are bad, but I'd ask here, when you find out.

Thanks again, Denise.

I'll ask for the name of the closing company, and also inquire if I can choose my own.

BBB "approval" is a meaningless concept...

According to their website, they are Better Business approved.

Any commercial entity willing to pay the BBB its membership fee can actually claim to be "approved" (once their membership fee check clears). Only when an entity amasses a number of formally filed complaints against them (a process which the powerless BBB does not make at all easy) does the empty "BBB approved" claim become potentially jeopardized.

I don't know anything about Timeshare Rescue, except that they are a PCC in the genre of Timeshare Freedom, We Collect Timeshares, etc. My only point in responding to the quioted portion of the post above is to recommend not putting too much stock into the meaningless assertion of "BBB approved".

Timeshare Rescue...

They use in-house closing agents because of the Power of Attorney documentation used in these type of "transactions".

Previously, the name they used was Summit Title, but now a new name is being used, Elite Timeshare Transfers..

I would also echo DeniseM in that a truly independent 3rd party closing and escrow agent is a very smart idea. However- find out from your choice of closing agent if cancellation penalties would be assessed to you if the sale doesn't complete- as many of these transfers cannot be closed due to issues with both property verification and invalid power of attorney paperwork.

Timeshare Rescue/ Wanted Weeks and Resort Transfer Services are the trio I with which I am familiar, and they are based in Denver, with Denver local phone numbers.

Is this a different company called Timeshare Rescue?

BBB ratings are highly subject!

BBB ratings and designations don't carry much weight with me either. I've been researching this for a possible article, and I've found that there are far too many discrepancies in how similar businesses are rated.

I've been looking up several large timeshare resale companies each week for about two months now. I've often found that one company would have a higher rating than another similar company, but both would have approximately the same number of complaints shown.

One case in particular had a B+ rating, but the company actually showed more complaints in a shorter period of time than another company with a D- rating. I emailed this discrepency to the BBB on a daily basis until I finally got a response (13 days later). The answer I received by email was a short thank you for your time form letter saying that the ratings needed to be updated.

The next time I looked, the B+ also become a D-.. However, one week later- that was changed to a No Rating designation... The next day it again showed a B+, and the next day back to No Rating..

I don't know how the entire BBB business model works, but it seems that since companies pay fees to the BBB- that alone could be cause for a conflict of interest. If you've worked for the BBB in the past, please send me a PM.. I'd love to pick your brain to discover how these rating judgments are made and how businesses can possibly influence these ratings...

I was contacted today by Timeshare Rescue of Florida, and was informed that they use an in-house closing company, Elite Resort Transfers, LLC. for escrow and closings. They promised to cancel the deal if, on reading the deed, I had reservations about continuing with the process.

So far, no money has been laid out. Not sure what to do to protect myself.

Buying from companies like them is usually not a problem.

BUT IMHO, you need to ask yourself "Do I want to buy from someone who likely told huge lies to the owner of the TS, to get the owner to sign over the TS to this company?"

If you don't care, then you'll likely do just find using their own in house closing company.

I've seen quite a few threads from TUG members complaining about problems with eBay purchases from many of these sellers- everything from bad service to actually being transferred a different resort entirely.. I'd say I've seen more negative responses than positive..

"Usually not a problem" may be a bit too kind. Kind of like saying playing russian roulette is not usually dangerous since there's only a 1 in 6 chance you'll get the bullet!

Your wording sounds too much like encouragement for my taste!

You probably are right. "Usually not a problem" may be a bit too kind.

BUT, I not sure how many problem free transfers take place that we never hear about. Since people are sure to complain when they have a problem.

If it's a whole new name, how do you know it's the same person ?
