Calling for a boycott of someone may or may not meet the "be courteous" rule. :)
agree - which is why I have not posted yet. :D

His belief that the ONLY way to TS is with non-branded, no-name, HOA controlled, resale properties is incorrect......

I not only believe that on this issue John is 100% right, but I walked the walk. I sold my 5 Marriott weeks; bought 6 independents; and put approximately $80,000 into my bank account!!

Maybe good for another topic, but which independents did you buy and how are they same or better than a typical Marriott ownership?

First off I admit that none were Marriott quality but they were well maintained Resorts in places I liked to go. Examples are Deerfield Beach, FL; Myrtle Beach, SC; Ruidoso, NM; Biloxi, MS; Dillon, CO; and Mesquite, NV.

Shutting down or attempting to silence anyone's opinion, no matter how much you might want to disagree with it, diminishes the community as a whole. I personally think this is not only a bad idea but one that is dangerous to this community's long term survival. For any one group to gang up on any one individual or group of individuals because you don't want to hear their opinion or views anymore smacks of attempted censorship by one group over another. This is dangerous territory you're wading into and I for one do not plan to take part.

In fact, I'm not so sure this isn't in violation of a TUG policy that would ban deliberate attacks on a member. I consider this a personal attack against John, his ideas and his opinions.

My opinions might differ from John's but I prefer to think I can express them without the fear of TUG members boycotting threads I respond to or start. I wonder how any of you would feel should you be singled out for a boycott due to your views at some point in the future.

I agree with your principles -- so how do I protest what I think was (repeated) bad behavior in my little thread by a moderator?

We all know moderators are allowed to express their opinion -- but re-read the thread from start to finish and watch it get hi-jacked. http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162956

Do we just take it? Should I not bother posting anything positive about Marriott because a seasoned veteran (who is also a moderator) will just highjack it, as he has other threads?

It is not as simple as I think has been suggested by your response. I definitely do not like singling people out -- but I don't like what he did at all.

A lot of people liked it -- and two people killed it -- and one was a moderator. That stinks.

Greg

I think it's important to point out that John wasn't singled out because he has an anti-Marriott opinion. Lots of folks share that opinion and none of us can say that they're wrong. It takes lots of different opinions to make the timeshare world go 'round. (Cheesy, but it works. )

John was singled out because he has recently been posting untrue "facts" about Marriott timeshares in support of his opinion, and he was singled out because he has recently taken his anti-Marriott campaign into practically every thread on the Marriott board regardless of whether his opinion fit the thread topic or not.

Would I like to be singled out for a boycott? No I wouldn't. But if ever I start posting misrepresentations as "facts" and hijacking threads in support of an agenda, then I sure do hope the folks here will call me out for my bad moves. And if multiple folks have to call me out and I don't change what they're all obviously seeing, then I won't blame them one bit for boycotting me.

Once owned these: FirstFairway@Walden X 2; Lawai Beach; ManhattanClub; PuebloBonitoRose; 4 South Africa--now timeshare-free

Are you referring to the "why I like my Marriott" thread that I locked? Didn't you report the thread asking that it be closed?

Denise, if you feel that this thread needs to be closed, I'm fine with that. The point has already been made.

Dave M is "on it" - I'm just watching from the sidelines.

Let's first make sure that we understand what actually happened here so that we can move on and not make the same mistake.

(Whatever you do, don't report yourself - it'll make you look needy. If you want I'll report you for cross-posting; I think that's only a minor offense. :hysterical: )

Yes, I reported it and it absolutely needed to be closed.

I would have thought either a PM to John or Brian. A public display brings nothing but grandstanding & pitting on member against another. I see this as a personal attack, which I feel is a direct violation of TUG forum rules.

Perry did the same and yet was considered entertaining.

Perry was entertaining in the speculation thread. That wasn't based on any facts, only speculation.

By whom? Not me. I questioned what Perry wrote in his posts just as much as I've questioned what John has written.

this thread is ridiculous....use the ignore feature if you truly have such a dislike for someones posts. (lord knows I use it!)

I spend an obscene amount of money defending peoples right to post their opinions on this site...both good and bad....unless posts violate the posting guidelines...they are going to be allowed to speak their mind...moderator or no.

That said, trolling is annoying...and should be avoided by all parties involved. Now that my PM box is full of endless pages worth this topic that I simply dont have the time to read...im simply going to start closing threads if they end up like this again.
