Hi. I am hoping there is an expert on here that can provide some advice. I have 300 VC points that expire this year. I do not know how to put them to use? Any suggestions? I called MVC and they were only interested in selling more points.

thank you,
Pete

I don’t know where you live, but if you live close or a few hours drive from some of the Marriott resorts, you could take advantage of Destinations Escapes. A one bedroom for 3 nights is only 360 DC points. However, you can stay in a studio for 4 nights for 240 DC points. Imagine adding one of these to a nice stay in Florida or California? If you have time and flexibility, you can get some mileage on those points.

Post them on www.VacationPointExchange.com and ask 50 cents per point for them (rental points).

Granted, you won't get rich, but you will rid yourself of every last 2020 point you have, and someone else will put them to good use!

.

You could get them extended to 12/31/2021 with the cancel/rebook trick. Though they will have a 120 day booking restriction.

Do what Dioxide said. Worst case is that you are in the exact same 120 day window that you are right now, but have an extra year to use the points

Hi Pete,
If you log onto MVC and select “ use points“ from the top bar and then “explorer collection” from the last column you will see the options for using your points.
Many of them- like resort & ticket credit- require you to use them before the points expire (minimum for resort credit is 325 points). I believe there is a golf option and airline credit that you can buy with the points now and use later.

I personally used the option dioxide suggests here- it’s under the current Covid cancellation policy on MVC.

  • Until September 30, 2020, if you are seeking to cancel your reservation, booked with Vacation Club Points, and are canceling 60 days or less from the date of arrival, your Vacation Club Points will be returned to a Holding Account; however, the Points Premium (if any) will be forfeited.
    • For Vacation Club Points expiring anytime in 2020 or 2021 and placed into a Holding Account as a result of a cancellation made prior to September 30, 2020 and within 60 days or less of arrival, the expiration deadline of such Vacation Club Points will be extended through December 31, 2021, and can be used for a villa reservation or select Explorer offerings within 120 days of arrival instead of the previous 60 days of arrival. The December 31, 2021 extension will be made to your account within two weeks.

BTW, 300 points can buy a lot in off season in places like Hilton Head, Williamsburg, etc. Those will usually be available in the 120 day window.

I agree. 250 points will give you five nights; Sun-Thur in Hilton Head in December and January. Holidays excluded.

I have used them for resort credit also. Its great to have resort dollars for meals ect. If you cannot use them for anything else, then attach $100 voucher onto a reservation at a Vac Club destination for 300 points.

Is MVC still offering resort vouchers at the moment? I thought I read that those had been suspended since many resorts had closed their onsite dining establishments?

I just booked a resort voucher for Orlando in November 2020 last week, so am assuming its still possible. They suggested it noticing I had left over points
